Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Those Earrings Never Belonged to You

Chloe Reed felt her heart go cold.

Autumn Linton was cold and distant toward her grandmother, but for Sunny Reed’s sake, she was willing to endure it and put on an act.

’Why does she care so much about Sunny Reed?’

Chloe Reed took a deep breath, then said, "I disagree. I was the one who got the earrings back for Grandma. I will not agree to her giving them to you."

Autumn Linton’s brow furrowed. "Aren’t you overstepping a bit?"

Chloe Reed turned to her grandmother. "Grandma, don’t give the earrings to her. She doesn’t even want them for herself—she wants to give them to Sunny Reed!"

"Chloe Reed!"

Autumn Linton frowned, trying to stop her, but she couldn’t.

She immediately looked at her grandmother, her gaze faltering.

Watching the mother and daughter argue, a flicker of sadness crossed the old woman’s eyes. She then turned to Chloe Reed. "Chloe, let’s go."

"Okay."

Chloe Reed breathed a sigh of relief.

’Thank goodness Grandma didn’t give in and hand the earrings over to Autumn Linton.’

She linked her arm through her grandmother’s, and they started walking toward the exit.

Autumn Linton gritted her teeth. Unwilling to give up, she took a few steps after them. "Mom, that pair of earrings never belonged to..."

"That’s enough!"

Chloe Reed turned her head and gave her a warning glare.

’Grandma is so old now. How could Mom not know what she should and shouldn’t say?’

’For Sunny Reed, for Sunny Reed’s family... she really doesn’t care about anything else!’

The old woman closed her eyes, her lips pressing into a thin line.

But Autumn Linton stepped forward. "Chloe Reed, I was talking to my mother. Isn’t it incredibly rude of you to keep interrupting?"

"Hah..." Chloe Reed sneered. "You’re the one who raised me. If I have no manners, whose fault is that?"

"You...!"

Autumn Linton’s face turned livid with anger.

Just then, the old woman gently patted Chloe’s hand. "Chloe, you shouldn’t speak to your mother like that."

Chloe Reed pressed her lips together and glanced at her grandmother.

Her grandmother then turned to look at Autumn Linton. "I’m giving these earrings to Chloe, along with the rest of my estate. Autumn, I thought you didn’t care about these things."

Autumn Linton was stunned. "Mom, how could you do this?"

But her grandmother replied, "Isn’t that what you’ve said in the past?"

"I..."

For a moment, Autumn Linton’s expression was stiff and awkward.

But at this point, with the words already out, she had no reason to hesitate. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

She said immediately, "Mom, I don’t want any of your other assets. But the earrings—you have to give them to me."

’She’s insane!’

’She’s completely lost her mind!’

Chloe Reed looked at her in disbelief. "Can you just shut up?!"

Autumn Linton ignored her. She looked at her grandmother and continued, "That pair of earrings wasn’t a token of affection from my father to you. He gave them to Aunt Bowman!"

"Shut your mouth!"

Chloe Reed suddenly screamed, her eyes turning red. "Stop spouting nonsense! The earrings belong to Grandma!"

Her grandmother’s body swayed, and her face grew even paler. She looked at Autumn Linton, a profound sadness surfacing in her gaze.

But Autumn Linton pressed on. "Mom, they were never yours to begin with. You should give them back to Aunt Bowman."

"Grandma, let’s go. She’s lost her mind. We don’t have to listen to her ravings." Chloe Reed’s heart was in turmoil; she was deeply worried about her grandmother’s state.

But her grandmother just stared intently at Autumn Linton and asked, "This Aunt Bowman you mentioned... who is she?"

"Grandma, don’t ask," Chloe pleaded, her heart aching for her.

Autumn Linton exhaled heavily. Now that the words were out, it felt as though a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
