Chapter 430: Chapter 430: Just Temporary

"Hello, Miss Reed."

Zachary Bowman’s voice was very courteous and polite.

Chloe Reed gazed out the window and asked softly, "I’d like to have a notarized document drawn up for all the assets Grandma transferred into my name. Is that possible?"

Zachary Bowman asked in confusion, "What kind of notarized document?"

Chloe Reed said, "It’s to state that when Grandma’s biological granddaughter is found, all the assets she gifted me will be returned to her."

"But..."

Zachary Bowman was completely stunned. "Miss Reed, Old Mrs. Sutton designated you as the beneficiary. You don’t need to carry this psychological burden."

Besides, he had only just found out that Chloe Reed wasn’t even Old Mrs. Sutton’s biological granddaughter.

Chloe Reed gave a faint laugh. "Let’s go ahead with the notarized document. I can help Grandma manage the assets temporarily, before the real granddaughter returns. But once she’s back, everything has to be handed over to her. And don’t tell Grandma about this."

Zachary Bowman still hesitated. "Miss Reed, this is a very serious matter. I have to discuss it with Old Mrs. Sutton."

"That won’t be necessary." Chloe Reed’s tone was insistent. "Grandma is still recovering and can’t be agitated. If she found out about this, she would definitely get angry. I’m sure you don’t want to see her health suffer any setbacks, do you?"

After a long pause, Zachary Bowman’s voice finally came through the phone. "Alright. I understand."

Chloe Reed said, "Please prepare the necessary documents. When they’re ready, I’ll go with you to the notary’s office."

"Understood."

She hung up the phone.

Chloe Reed slowly let out a long breath, as if a heavy burden had finally been lifted.

’After all, none of it was truly hers. Holding onto something she had no rightful claim to made her feel deeply uneasy.’

She prayed that Grandma’s biological granddaughter was safe and well, and that one day she would return to her grandmother’s side, allowing their family to be truly reunited.

Chloe Reed looked outside. People bustled to and fro at the hospital entrance, but after a long while, there was still no sign of her grandmother.

She sat quietly in the car, playing a little game.

Just then, her phone started to ring. The name flashing on the screen was Iris Yates.

"Hello, Iris."

Chloe Reed answered the call, her voice gentle.

A soft sob came from Iris Yates’s end. "Chloe..."

Hearing the sound of her voice, Chloe Reed was instantly alarmed. "What’s wrong? What happened?"

"I... I..." Iris Yates stammered, unable to get another word out for a long moment.

Chloe Reed was frantic with worry. "What is it? Just tell me!"

Iris Yates burst into tears. "I slept with a stranger!" she wailed, her words muffled.

Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s eyes widened in disbelief. "How did that happen?"

Iris Yates didn’t say anything more, dissolving into another bout of crying. She was terrified; it had all happened so suddenly.

"Okay, stop crying for a second. Where are you? I’ll come find you," Chloe Reed asked urgently.

Iris Yates sobbed, "I’m at South Hill Apartments."

She had her own little apartment there. It was where she stayed whenever she wanted to escape her parents’ nagging.

Right now, she didn’t dare go home. She was utterly terrified.

Chloe Reed said, "Okay, you wait there. I’m on my way."

"Mm-hm, okay..."

After hanging up, Chloe Reed called Daniel Hayes to tell him she had to leave.

Daniel Hayes’s tone was serious. "Miss Reed, please wait. I’m coming to you right now. I’ll go with you."
