Iris Yates clutched the hem of her wedding dress tightly. She stepped out from behind Nathaniel Monroe, walking toward William Quinn one step at a time.

She had no room to negotiate; she could only do as he said.

"Iris!"

Her wrist was seized. It was Nathaniel Monroe’s voice.

But Iris pushed his hand away and said, "I can’t let anyone get hurt because of me."

She turned her head, gave him a smile, and said, "I’ll be fine, too. Don’t worry."

After a pause, she looked at him with immense gratitude. "Thank you for being willing to help me. I’m truly grateful."

After speaking, she turned her head again and resumed walking toward William Quinn.

"Iris!"

Chloe Reed tried to rush forward but was held back firmly by Walker Grant.

"Let go of me! Iris can’t go with him, she’ll be in danger!" Chloe Reed was frantic. At that moment, she couldn’t think straight; her only impulse was to go and protect Iris Yates.

But Walker Grant held her fast, his tone exceptionally low. "He has a gun. If you go over there, he’ll shoot you. Do you want to die?"

"But what about Iris...?" Chloe Reed was so anxious that tears started to fall.

"Chloe."

Iris Yates looked at her and flashed a big smile. "Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. I’ll still help you."

She even gave Chloe Reed a playful wink before walking up to William Quinn.

She stood before the muzzle of his gun and sighed softly. "This... Mr. Quinn, I truly never thought you would hold on to what happened that night for so long. If you resent me for not taking responsibility for you, then please don’t take it out on others. If you must vent your anger, then just kill me."

She looked at the dark muzzle of the gun, her voice trembling. She was terrified, yet her gaze was remarkably calm and sincere.

’Since I’ve become a thorn in his side, it’s better to let him pull it out himself. That way, no one else will get hurt.’

William Quinn looked her up and down, his gaze sticking to her as if it were tangible. He lowered the gun, pulled her directly into his arms, and said, "I’m not going to kill you. I just want you to take responsibility for me."

With that, he excitedly crushed his lips against Iris Yates’s.

It was a familiar taste. The moment he kissed her, the pain that had been ravaging him to the bone suddenly subsided.

"Let her go!"

Seeing this, Nathaniel Monroe was consumed by rage and charged at William Quinn.

"BANG!"

But the next second, a gunshot rang out. Nathaniel Monroe was shot in the thigh and fell to one knee on the stage.

"Nathaniel!"

Mrs. Monroe cried out in alarm and fainted from the shock.

Mr. Monroe quickly caught her, then looked at William Quinn and said, "Since she’s willing to go with you, just take her and go. We won’t stop you. I’ll have their divorce papers processed as soon as possible!"

William Quinn released Iris Yates, looking as if he hadn’t had enough. He looked at Mr. Monroe and said with admiration, "You’re a smart man. I like smart people best."

Then, with his arm around Iris Yates, he turned and left without another word.

Nathaniel Monroe remained kneeling on the stage, veins bulging on his forehead. Watching Iris Yates being taken away, his eyes were bloodshot with immense fury and regret.

"Nathaniel Monroe, snap out of it! You almost died!"

Mr. Monroe stepped forward and slapped him across the face. "I knew there was a reason you rushed the wedding date! So you two teamed up to deceive us!"

Mrs. Yates stood there, stunned. Hearing this, she looked at him. "What do you mean?"

Mr. Monroe snorted coldly. "Haven’t you figured it out yet? Your Iris got involved with someone she shouldn’t have. They got married to hide from him, thinking they could get away with it perfectly. Hah, what a joke!"
