 When Scarlett Shaw heard this, she was slightly surprised for a second, then recalled the night she got entangled with Julian Ford—he really was pretty crazy. Guess love had stung him, making an already unstable man tip even further off the edge.
 After dinner, Scarlett and Skyler Miller left the noodle shop together.
 Chloe Grant walked toward them in the autumn wind, eyes locking onto Scarlett Shaw.
 Scarlett said, "Skyler, you head back to the office first. I’ll be there later."
 Skyler Miller nodded.
 Scarlett met Chloe’s gaze. "What do you want?"
 Chloe’s eyes were icy cold. "You deliberately had Ryan Ford embarrass me just to prove to me that even if you broke up, the one he truly cares about is still you. Scarlett, does hurting me make you feel proud?"

 Girl, between us, who exactly is hurting whom?
 Scarlett suddenly realized that Chloe’s core logic was that she was always the innocent victim—no matter what anyone said, she would never think she was wrong.

 </div> "So what if it was deliberate?" Scarlett looked at her lazily. "You deliberately leaked my private info to James Bell, deliberately got between me and Ryan Ford when we were dating, and deliberately badmouthed me in front of him. Chloe, is your life inseparable from mine? What is it about me you like? Tell me, I’ll change."
 Chloe’s always-calm face twisted in anger.
 "You’re just a stray dog. How long do you think you can keep feeling smug?"
 Scarlett let out a small laugh. "Aren’t we family? Does Aunt and Uncle know that, in your eyes, they don’t even deserve to be called human?"
 Chloe’s face turned incredibly ugly.
 The look in her eyes was nothing but hatred.
 Scarlett’s smile faded. "You’ve hated me since we were kids, haven’t you."
 Chloe replied, "You only just realized? How stupid can you be. No wonder your dad went bankrupt, your mom ran away—having a daughter like you, that’s karma for eight lifetimes."
 Scarlett furrowed her brows. "What do you mean by that?"
 Chloe let out a cold laugh, turned and strode off.
 Scarlett’s eyes grew dark as she stared at Chloe’s back, a storm brewing in her gaze.

 After the day Ryan Ford took her to Cloud Mansion, she didn’t hear from him for a whole week. Scarlett was on edge, worried he’d show up again, so she contacted an agent to ask if there were any suitable apartments.
 Agent: "Still looking at two thousand for your budget?"
 Scarlett: "Mm."
 "Then you’ll have to wait a few more days. At that price, there are more co-living options, really few entire places to yourself. You know, finding a cheap and comfy place in Capitoline is harder than getting to the moon."
 Scarlett: "Thanks, I’ll wait for your update."
 "Alright."
 After the call, Scarlett glanced at the bag on the table—it held the suit jacket Julian Ford had left at her place on her last business trip to Hibiscus City. She’d had it cleaned at a professional laundry, but hadn’t had the chance to give it back.
 Scarlett figured even if she returned it, Julian would probably toss it, but it was a privately tailored, expensive jacket—his property, so what to do with it was his call.
 Scarlett contacted Aaron Carson, got his address, and sent the jacket over.

 </div> Aaron was surprised. "Wouldn’t it be easier if you just brought it back yourself?"
 Scarlett knew he still remembered seeing her at Cloud Mansion that day; her face turned a little hot. "Assistant Carson, there won’t be any more contact between President Ford and me."
 Aaron smiled.
 People around Julian Ford are naturally sharp—some things, you get right away.
 Scarlett didn’t bother explaining further.
 She thanked him and left.
 The next morning, Aaron arrived early at Cloud Mansion. After helping Julian Ford into the car, he pointed to the bag in the back seat. "President Ford, this was returned by Scarlett Shaw—said it’s the jacket you left behind."
 Julian’s face was indifferent. He gave a quiet "Mm."
 He didn’t even glance at the bag, not even after arriving at Veridian.
 That evening, Scarlett was playing piano in the restaurant. She looked up at the entrance by chance—and caught sight of Julian Ford’s familiar Bentley.
 Julian got out first, walked around to the other side, and opened the car door.
 Lynn Walsh stepped out in high heels, wearing a long dress. The hem accidentally brushed against something, and there was a small thud as something fell.
 Lynn looked down and saw the jacket slipping out of the bag, half-hanging on the seat, and a small, deep blue, finely-crafted box had rolled onto the concrete floor with a soft clatter.
 Lynn: "Julian, is this your jacket?"
 "Yeah."
 Julian casually stuffed the jacket back into the bag. Lynn bent down to pick up the box. "This yours too?"
 She glanced at the gold-embossed brand name on the box, her eyes flickering, and joked, "A twelve-thousand-yuan cheapie? No way you’d buy that. Did some clueless woman shove this in here, hoping you’d notice her?"
 Almost as soon as she finished, Julian had snatched the box from her hand and tossed it into the bag.
 He gave her a careless glance. "Didn’t Ms. Pierce ever remind you not to butt in on any of my business?"
 Lynn’s face paled; she shut her mouth at once.
 Julian strode off, this time not letting her take his arm.

 </div> That dinner wasn’t particularly enjoyable either; Lynn could clearly feel Julian was distracted the entire time.
 She couldn’t help but regret it—she really shouldn’t have said that extra sentence. Julian was known for being self-disciplined and clean, never fooling around with women, and only ever had Zoe Sutton as an ex; that much was common knowledge. No matter where that box came from, her comment only made her look cheap.
 So what if it was sent by another woman? It’s not worth anything anyway. And if the giver’s not worth much, how valuable can the gift be?
 Toward the end of dinner, Julian took the initiative to pay. On his way to the restroom, he ran into Scarlett.
 Scarlett lowered her eyes and spoke softly, "President Ford."
 The restaurant’s piano dress code required evening wear. Scarlett had just finished playing and hadn’t changed out yet; the dress was backless. Julian’s distant gaze swept over her smooth, slender back, gave a faint reply, and walked away without a pause.
 Scarlett returned to the dressing room to change back into her own clothes.
 When she reached the restaurant entrance, she happened to see Julian leaning against his car, smoking.
 The night was thick and silent. Julian’s face was half-hidden in the darkness, his expression unreadable.
 But handsome—undeniably so.
 Not just Scarlett—even passersby couldn’t help but stare in awe.
 Just before Scarlett turned her gaze away, Lynn walked up to Julian, took his hand, and stood on tiptoe to kiss him.</div>
