Overlord Tamer:I Only Tame Bosses
Chapter 52 Small World
Oliver finally arrived back at town. Ever since the tragedy that occurred five years ago, Ashville had been completely rebuilt.
Now, the town looked far larger and more prosperous than before as more and more people chose to settle there.
All of it was thanks to the drastic decrease in rogue boss attacks, which made the region much safer.
"Ahh! Look! It’s Oliver!"
"Hello. Good evening," Oliver replied while waving back with a charming smile.
"Oliver, thank you for all your hard work. Please take these fruits, and send my regards to your mother."
"Oh, thank you, Aunt Mary. I’ll let my mum know," Oliver said politely while accepting the basket of fruits.
"Oliver, how was your quest? It must have been easy for you, right?"
"Hahaha. It’s not always that easy, Uncle Luth," Oliver laughed lightly.
This had become a normal occurrence for Oliver. The townspeople were extremely fond of him. To the young girls, he was their crush.
To the young boys, he was both an idol and a role model. And to the adults, he was the savior of the town.
Oliver entered the Tamer Guild, where several people were still gathered inside. He greeted everyone politely before heading toward the quest counter and presenting proof of his completed mission.
"Great job as always, Oliver! Not even a full day after accepting the quest and you already completed it. The other hunters in your group probably just got carried by you again. Hehehe." the guild staff joked playfully.
"Not really. They helped during the quest too," Oliver replied modestly.
The staff then handed him a pouch containing ten gold coins. One gold coin was equal to one hundred silver coins. Meaning Oliver had just earned one thousand silver, more than an average tamer could earn in an entire month from a single quest.
"Oh! Before I forget, the Guildmaster wants to see you after completing your quest. He’s currently waiting in his office."
"Hmm? Why does he want to see me? Alright, I’ll go meet him. Just a second." Oliver took one gold coin from the pouch before placing it onto the drink counter nearby.
"Everyone! Today’s drinks are on me. Please enjoy yourselves to the fullest." Oliver said with a grin.
"Yeahhh! Thank you, Oliver!" all the tamers cheered loudly.
Oliver himself did not drink alcohol, but he simply wanted to treat his fellow tamers after all their hard work. Besides, after completing so many quests over the years, he now possessed quite a large amount of gold.
After that, he headed toward the upper floor to meet the Guildmaster.
"Oliver, have a seat."
Oliver sat down on the sofa across from Nolan. Even after five years, Nolan’s appearance had barely changed.
Nolan then poured tea for Oliver and placed a plate of biscuits in front of him.
"Why did you want to see me, Guildmaster?" Oliver asked after taking a sip of tea.
"Sorry for calling you here so suddenly. The reason I wanted to see you is because I wanted to properly thank you. All the townspeople have been expressing their gratitude toward you, and I wanted to represent them in thanking you as well. Although it isn’t much, please accept this."
Nolan offered a pouch filled with gold coins toward Oliver.
However, Oliver refused it.
"There’s no need for this, Guildmaster. I did everything because I wanted to protect our town. The place where I was born and raised. You should give that money to the children who lost their fathers. They deserve it far more than I do." Oliver said before returning the pouch to Nolan.
Nolan could not help but smile warmly.
"If only all tamers in this world were as kind and thoughtful as you, the world would become a far happier place. Still this region feels too small for someone as talented as you, Oliver. Why don’t you head to the city and join the guild there? You could expand your knowledge and, at the same time, increase your influence."
Oliver fell silent for a moment. He had indeed thought about it before. After all, he had already cleared all fifty dungeons within this region, and honestly, everything had become too easy for him now.
Most of the boss monsters no longer felt attractive enough for him either.
Out there in the wider world, there were countless stronger dungeons containing far more powerful monsters and bosses. And Oliver truly wanted to go there and tame them.
However, without the system functioning properly, he currently could not tame any monsters. And most importantly, he was afraid of encountering the Apostles again.
So for now, he planned to wait until the system fully came back online and use it to grow even stronger first.
"I’ll think about it later, Guildmaster. For now, I still want to continue serving this town first." Oliver replied.
Nolan looked at Oliver before smiling warmly.
"How has your father been lately? Still busy as usual?"
"Yes. He keeps talking about how busy he is even during dinner. My mum always scolds him whenever he starts. Hahaha." Oliver laughed.
After the tragedy involving the Apostles, a full investigation had been conducted. Eventually, the townspeople discovered that Robert, the former mayor, had been responsible for ordering Peter’s group to kill Oliver.
In the end, Robert finally confessed and revealed the truth himself. As a result, his position as mayor was stripped away.
After a public vote by the townspeople, Arnulf was chosen to become the next mayor of Ashville. Robert was later arrested and imprisoned within the city, while the rest of his family moved away to another place.
As for Theresa, her whereabouts remained completely unknown. Even after five years, no trace of her had ever been found. Eventually, the search for her was abandoned, and people assumed she had likely moved somewhere else.
After chatting with Nolan for a little longer, Oliver finally excused himself and headed home.
Back then, the road leading from town to his family house near the edge of Ashville had been lonely and surrounded only by trees and bushes.
But now, many new houses had been built along the path, making the area feel far more lively.
After several minutes of walking, Oliver finally arrived home. Compared to the house that had once been destroyed, their current home was far more beautiful.
It now had two floors with clean white walls. In front of the yard bloomed many colorful flowers, while wooden fences wrapped around the garden with vines and plants growing beautifully along them.
Thanks to his father’s work as mayor and Oliver’s growing income as both a tamer and hunter, their home had gradually expanded into what it was today.
As Oliver approached, he noticed a group of people speaking with his father in front of the house before eventually leaving.
Arnulf now had a beard along his chin and a mustache, making him look more mature and dignified.
"Who were they, Father?"
"Oh, Oliver. They were envoys from our neighboring territory, the Barony of Pashar. They actually wanted-" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Before Arnulf could finish speaking, Irmine quickly interrupted him.
"Can’t you two stop talking at the entrance and come help me prepare dinner?" Irmine said.
She was now thirty years old, yet somehow looked even more beautiful than before.
Soon, the family gathered together for dinner. Unlike in the past when protein-rich meals only appeared two or three times a week, their table was now filled with nutritious food every day.
"The envoys from earlier were actually informing us about illegal monster trafficking." Arnulf explained during dinner.
"They asked us to stay alert in case we encounter any suspicious convoys."
