Overpowered Resident Doctor
Chapter 370 - 369: Black-hearted and Thick-skinned
A celebrity’s check-up didn’t involve more tests than a regular person’s, nor were they any more accurate.
They just didn’t have to wait in line and got to enjoy a "cleared floor" service.
This so-called "cleared floor" was more of a formality, where people guarded the stairs and elevators to prevent unauthorized individuals from wandering in.
In reality, no one was trying to get in anyway.
After all, it was the middle of the night. The plastic surgery center wasn’t like an emergency room; patients rarely came in for urgent cosmetic procedures.
The high-end service Ding Xuan was enjoying mostly consisted of Wang Chuan or Yan Feifan personally operating some of the examination instruments and equipment for her.
Of course, this high-end service also meant a high price tag. The examination fee was at least three to five times more than what a regular person would pay.
Nearly two hours later, all the various test results for her nose and body were finally collected in Yan Feifan’s hands.
Ding Xuan watched Yan Feifan flip through the results with a blank expression. She clenched her fists and asked nervously, "Mr. Yan, it can be fixed, right?"
Yan Feifan put down the results and nodded. "The situation isn’t ideal, but it’s not the worst-case scenario."
"It’s certainly simpler than reconstructing a nose from scratch using your own muscle tissue."
Ding Xuan felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Mr. Yan, to be honest with you, it was after watching that documentary that I really made up my mind."
"That poor little girl, An’an, she had no nose at all, and you, Mr. Yan, were able to reconstruct such a perfect one for her."
"My situation has to be better than hers."
Yan Feifan said in a serious tone, "The difficulty may be a bit lower, but the time required will be much longer."
"Restructuring the muscles in your nose will be a major test of patience and meticulousness."
Ding Xuan gave a faint smile and said flatteringly, "For you, Mr. Yan, that shouldn’t be much of a test at all."
After a brief pause, she asked, "Mr. Yan, when can the surgery be scheduled?"
"I have a very important event in four weeks. If I have to cancel it, the impact on my career will be huge."
"So the timing of the surgery..."
Yan Feifan thought for a moment. "Your nasal reconstruction surgery is expected to take eight hours."
"If we arrange things properly, it can be scheduled for next Friday night."
Then he added casually, "If you absolutely must attend that event in four weeks, then the only option is to have the surgery tonight."
Ding Xuan’s eyes lit up. "The surgery can be done tonight?"
But then she added worriedly, "Mr. Yan, um, isn’t the preparation time too rushed?"
"Are you confident?"
Yan Feifan chuckled. "I came up with a surgical plan after examining you at Baining Hospital the other day."
"Besides, it’s just a nose reconstruction."
As a talented actress skilled at analyzing characters, Ding Xuan naturally picked up on the confidence—and a bit of nonchalance—in Yan Feifan’s words, actions, and expression.
’This guy really doesn’t see my nose as a big deal.’
While this made Ding Xuan a little uncomfortable, it also boosted her confidence immensely.
She chuckled lightly. "Mr. Yan, as far as I know, you’ve never failed a single surgery you’ve performed, whether it was cosmetic surgery, a high-risk spinal tumor operation, or a brain tumor removal."
"I’m sure you will, and you must, continue your brilliant record of success."
"Mr. Yan, I’ve decided. Let’s do the surgery tonight."
Yan Feifan was taken aback.
’Surgery tonight? I was just saying it casually. I didn’t think she’d actually agree.’
It seemed that event she mentioned really was very important.
But... an eight-hour surgery would break his personal record for the longest operation he’d ever performed...
Yan Feifan checked in with his own physical condition.
He’d spent half the day relaxing and having fun, then napped all afternoon. His mind and body were in excellent shape.
’I can do this surgery!’
Yan Feifan asked, "What time did you have dinner? And when was the last time you had water?"
Ding Xuan thought for a moment. "Dinner was around seven. I didn’t have much of an appetite, so I just picked at my food."
"As for water..."
"I drank half a bottle of mineral water before nine o’clock."
Yan Feifan nodded. "It’s 2 a.m. now. You meet the conditions for surgery."
"I’ll just..."
He was about to say he would prepare for surgery when he suddenly remembered a very important matter they hadn’t discussed.
The surgical fee!
"Ms. Ding, given that you are a public figure, I’ll have Mr. Wang, our center’s director, speak with you about the terms of the surgical agreement you’ll need to sign."
"Please wait just a moment..."
With that, Yan Feifan left the examination room and said to Meng Yao and Ye Lin, who were waiting outside, "Top-floor operating room. Prepare for surgery."
"Now?" Meng Yao’s eyes went wide as she asked for confirmation.
Yan Feifan nodded.
Meng Yao quickly acknowledged and pulled Ye Lin toward the elevator at a brisk pace.
Yan Feifan took the stairs to the director’s office on the third floor and found Wang Chuan eating a late-night snack with his sister and Yu Suye.
"Feifan, all done? Come have a bite," Wang Chuan called out.
Yan Feifan said, a little glumly, "You all sure know how to enjoy yourselves."
"Ding Xuan is in a hurry and wants the surgery tonight."
"Mr. Wang, could you go to the examination room on the second floor and discuss the surgical matters with her? I’m not good at setting the fee."
Wang Chuan chuckled, getting to his feet. "True. You’re too young, not ruthless enough, and your skin isn’t thick enough."
He straightened his clothes and said with a serious expression, "Skill is priceless. Add to that Ding Xuan’s celebrity status and net worth, plus the importance of this nose to her career..."
"I will definitely give her a very reasonable quote."
As he spoke, Wang Chuan retrieved a thick folder from his desk and strode out of the office with a grand, confident air...
Yan Ziruo’s gaze shifted from the closed office door to her younger brother. She asked with concern, "Feifan, how many hours will the surgery take?"
"It’s already two in the morning. Your body...?"
Yan Feifan said softly, "It’s estimated to be an eight-hour surgery."
Seeing the worried look on his sister’s face, he explained, "Sis, I know my limits. I can handle it."
"Today’s... or rather, yesterday’s outing and relaxation, plus the afternoon nap, have left me in great physical condition."
Yan Ziruo sighed softly, then pointed at the several takeout containers on the coffee table. "Feifan, you should eat something quickly. It’s going to be eight hours."
Yan Feifan shook his head. "I’d better not."
"I ate a lot at Mr. Wang’s house for dinner. I’ll be fine until ten in the morning, no problem."
He then asked, "How’s the situation with that so-called ’exposé’ video?"
Yu Suye and Yan Ziruo exchanged a glance. Yu Suye spoke slowly, "The buzz has already spread from the video site to the wider internet."
"The good news is, a lot of people are speaking up for you."
"They’re saying that being a doctor is fundamentally a profession, that doctors need to have their own lives, and that we shouldn’t endlessly glorify the spirit of sacrifice to the point where doctors are expected to give everything to their patients, to work themselves to death."
Yan Feifan said with a hint of sarcasm, "But I bet there’s far more criticism and condemnation of me online, right?"
Yan Ziruo comforted him, "Feifan, don’t pay any attention to those keyboard warriors. They’re just a bunch of malcontents and losers."
"They’re selfish themselves, but they wish everyone else was a saint, a hero who sacrifices for others."
Yu Suye chimed in, "Exactly."
"They only think about what everyone can do for them, but when they’re asked to give even a little, they protest louder than anyone..."
Yan Feifan chuckled. "You don’t have to comfort me. Whatever they say online, it won’t affect me."
"Oh, where are those two security guards?"
Yan Ziruo replied, "Mr. Wang has them waiting in the first-floor lobby..."
A little over ten minutes later, Wang Chuan returned.
"Base surgical fee, one million!"
"Incentive bonus, five million..."
