Chapter 555: Chapter 555 Mutated Menaces (2)

Despite the pain and mild weakness he was feeling from the venom that had been injected into him, Avery forced himself to move.

The first thing he did was grab the spiked tail jammed into his waist and yanked it out.

It tore some of his flesh with it and hurt like hell since the stinger was barbed. Even so, he was not about to let himself keep getting pumped full of poison.

With his other hand, he shoved it directly into the mutated Baccigan’s mouth and activated the laser embittered located in the palm of his gauntlet.

For a second, he could have sworn he saw a look of surprise on the monster’s face.

No doubt whatever modicum of intelligence it still possessed after having its body warped found it incomprehensible that Avery was still able to move.

Red blasts of energy shot directly inside of the creature did far more damage than any external attacks.

By the time that it crashed into Avery, the poor soul that had been turned into a monster was already dead.

With an expression of clear frustration on his face, Avery shoved the mutated Baccigan off of him and rose to his feet.

He could feel that his wound was still bleeding, and when he glanced down, he noticed a sickly amber color mixed in with his blood. No doubt this was the venom he had been injected with.

’Judging by the fact that my body’s not closing the puncture, it must be trying to expel the foreign substance first. At least, that’s what it feels like to me.’ Avery thought analyzing the situation.

There was still a great deal he did not know about his changing physiology, but one thing was abundantly clear, he had become something far more durable.

Without a doubt, had anyone else taken the same hit that he had, they would not have been moving around, and likely would have died within less than a minute.

That’s how potent the venom felt to Avery. The fact that his body was trying to expel the substance rather than simply neutralize it made that abundantly clear.

"Not going to even give me a moment to collect my thoughts, are you."

As he was picking himself back up, the first mutated creature tried to strike him again with its tail.

However, while Avery may have appeared to not be paying attention, he had been ready for any attack to come his way at any moment.

With his left hand, he caught the incoming stinger, stopping its momentum.

There was a shocking amount of strength behind the slim appendage, but Avery held it back.

Eventually, the monster reflexively tried to retract its tail after failing to pierce Avery.

Except, he was not just going to let it go.

Avery was pretty pissed off, and flexing his muscles with his full power, he pulled on the tail caught in his grasp.

The two opposing forces strained the tail, and with a loud tearing sound, it ripped in two.

Avery held the still wiggling end in his left hand, with the now stingerless tail retracted back towards the howling monster.

In an infuriated rampage, it charged towards Avery with reckless abandon.

It swung its oversized arm around like a wrecking ball. Smashing into everything around it and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Yet, its wild flailing never connected with Avery, as he agilely ducked under and leapt out of the way of every attack coming his way.

Soon, the opening he was waiting for presented itself.

The monster’s wild attacks and lopsided proportions had thrown it heavily off balance.

Avery used this chance to dash in close and activate his suit’s repulsion field.

A burst of energy expanded outward from the core of his exosuit and pushed everything around it away.

Try as it might to resist, the mutated creature was unable to keep itself from being shoved away and knocked off its feet.

For only a couple of seconds, it was knocked onto its back, but that was enough for Avery.

Not hesitating in the slightest, he jumped on top of the monster and began pummeling it with his gauntlet clad firsts.

He took all his anger for the wound in his waist out on it.

With an intensity that he did not even know he was capable of, Avery relentlessly punched, his arms moving faster and faster after every passing second.

The corridor began shaking from the impacts, and it was not long before the floor beneath the creature and Avery caved in and broke away.

Even as the two of them fell down, Avery’s arms never stopped moving.

Once the two of them hit the floor below, the monster tried to counterattack with its smaller nimbler arm.

It lashed out at Avery with its sharp claws that could rend through armor plating, but no attack was worth anything if it missed.

Avery swayed back just enough to evade the strike and then grabbed the creature’s arm.

Using both of his hands, he gripped ahold of it tightly and jammed its own claws into its body.

It screamed in rage and its tongues lashed out at him, but Avery just swatted them away with right arm.

When the monster tried to raise its massive, muscular arm, Avery slammed his foot down into its shoulder joint keeping it from moving.

"Just go down already!" Avery shouted as he wound up his right arm and then slammed his first into the mutated person’s torso.

This time he had put more force into the blow than any of the other punches he had thrown so far.

The force of the attack even astonished Avery.

The tough hide he had been hitting finally gave in and his fist sunk deeply into the monster’s body.

He felt bones shatter to pieces, and the organs they had been protecting splatter from the impact.

Cracks started to spread out from the floor, and another level of the station gave away.

Avery became weightless for a moment, before slamming into the ground a few meters below.

His breath heavy, he rose to his feet and finally took in the devastation that he had caused.

Below him, the poor unfortunate soul he had been fighting was unmoving and gushing blood from several ruptures throughout its body.

To make sure that the thing was really dead, Avery kicked it a few times, but there was no response.

"Since it didn’t really have a head, its brain must have been somewhere in its torso. I guess I probably destroyed it at some point."

There was not much left of the thing’s main body. Avery had smashed it into a pulp, and in most places, it looked flattened like a pancake. Making it misshapen limbs that were mostly intake look even more unnatural.

Looking up above, he saw that the area he had passed through was heavily damaged and chucks were still falling down. Seeing how much damage he was able to cause with just his physical strength and the impact generator in his exosuit was astonishing.

Avery knew that he was strong, but this was the first time he had really pushed himself in a fight. Seeing what kind of destruction he could cause with just his body was both awe inspiring and terrifying.

He knew that he had let his anger take control for a bit there, and while the damage he caused to the Odium Syndicate’s base was of little consequence, had he lost himself somewhere else, the consequences could have been dire.

’Something to keep in mind in the future. For now, though, I need to get back up there and keep fighting.’

He could still hear the sound of battle from above, and judging from the frequent explosions, he knew that his team must have been having a difficult time.

Bending his legs, he shot up through the holes in through the levels he had created.

At the height of his jump, he jammed his gauntlets into the ceiling before swinging himself over to stable ground.

From there he rushed to the nearest sounds of battle and found eight members of his team battling it out against another monster.

This one looked vastly different from the other two that Avery had already fought, but not less abhorrent.

Its body was disgustingly bulbous, and it walked on four limbs despite its front pair clearly having been arms at some point.

The most unnerving part though was the multitude of mouths all over its torso that could elongate over two meters and snap out at anyone that got too close.

One of the members of the power armor squad was keeping the monstrosity at bay while the others were blasting it, but the creature seemed oblivious to the damage that it was taking and voraciously tried to chomp down on anyone that got too close to it.

’I’m starting to think that we aren’t getting paid enough for this.’ Avery thought as he bounded towards the monster to relieve some of the pressure his troops were under.
