Planet Vs Aliens: Space User Saves the World
Chapter 50: Thinking as a Group
Like this, this family had become part of the people she wished to live with through the apocalypse.
Therefore, she hoped to support them for a long time. Considering she knew that the apocalypse would last decades, what she had wouldn’t be enough.
One was that they had to be able to protect themselves.
Fortunately, she didn’t have to convince them to work on themselves. After Hans and the boys finished tying up the damned thieves, everyone surrounded her with stars in their eyes.
"You’re so amazing!"
"How did you learn all that?"
Naia smiled, a plan forming in her mind. "Hmm, a master took pity on me when I was bullied back then and trained me."
"Cool!"
"That’s amazing!"
"If only I knew a few moves, wouldn’t those bastards be useless?!" At this, Linlin whipped her head to face Naia. "Can...can you teach us? A few moves are okay!"
Hans nodded as well. He had also been rescued by Naia earlier and had long wanted to ask.
Heck, even the three kids asked her too. "Can you teach us?"
Then she turned her head to another side and met Grandma’s eyes.
Why did it look like Grandma was also asking?
...
Grandma was, indeed, asking to be trained as well. This was something she confirmed after the police arrived, took their statements, and took the robbers away.
However, Naia couldn’t exactly teach her (or the Kids) anything too gruelling. The twins also needed to build up their foundations.
So, for the next few weeks, she set them to learn a set of movements as well as an exercise regime.
The movement set she taught them was something like tai chi, also known as "meditation in motion". It was characterized by slow, controlled movements with breathing and focus.
Its benefits were actually quite broad. It could help with balance and fall prevention, improve joint-friendly strength (i.e. build leg and core strength without damaging the hips), improved flexibility and mobility, and improved mind-body awareness.
This was something the children and grandma could handle, and would serve as foundational knowledge for the twins before she...pushes them to a more spartan-level training.
Other than these, the twins would be required to exercise for at least an hour every day. These exercises included half an hour of brisk walking as well as doing bodyweight circuit exercises (i.e. squats, push-ups, lunges, and so on).
They would also jog, and she would add weights to them every couple of days.
It was impossible to develop an athlete from scratch, but she at least needed them to be capable enough to handle fellow humans.
During the first few years of the apocalypse, aliens were not the enemy—it was fellowmen.
They would then continue training themselves to increase their chances of awakening, which was the only way to go head-to-head with those damned aliens.
Speaking of exercises, Naia actually had never neglected her own exercises after arriving here, which was how she could use her body to a decent degree and deal with the three thieves. It couldn’t compare to her efficiency back in the day, but it was enough for now.
She spent at least 2 hours each day to slowly improve her stamina. Back in the inn and hotel, she used their amenity area to exercise, in the farm, she went running. The act of farming itself was also a laborious activity.
She should start adding weights to her exercises soon. Good thing she bought a lot of strength bands since they didn’t take that much space when placed in a box. What she had would be more than enough for her own use, as well as the kids.
...
The training began the next day. She started before dawn, in fact, so they could all build the habit.
The twins were practically dragged over, while Grandma was typically awake already at this time.
The target was to teach them how to do things, create a schedule, and so on, so she could resume her preparations while they trained.
This was especially necessary for the twins, who only stayed at the farms on the weekends. They had to learn self-discipline, continuously improving themselves even when she was not there to watch over them.
Surprisingly, the three kids also arrived on time. She didn’t expect much from them, to be honest, but they ended up looking much more diligent than their teenage cousins.
They were still very sleepy, however, and one kid was even physically opening his eyes to keep them from drooping.
"So cute..." she whispered, giggling to herself. Fortunately, she managed to stop her itchy hands from pinching cheeks. After all, she was their trainer today; she had to maintain some prestige.
The first thing she taught them would be the tai chi exercises. She would teach them several moves first, allowing them to videotape the lesson, and they could practice them on their own.
They were clumsy at first, with their positions all over the place, but they managed to get the gist of it within half an hour or so.
Naia’s eyes would always stick to the children, though. She looked at the serious expressions on their chubby faces, moving those chonky little arms in ’graceful’ waves.
She couldn’t resist but head there and squeeze.
With a straight face proper as a trainer, she commented on their forms. "Ah, good bone structure. If you practice hard enough, you can grow super strong."
"Ohh nice flexibility," she said to another while squeezing the baby fat on the child’s arms.
After a few moments, she reluctantly pulled away her claws and continued to comment professionally on their forms.
Hans approached her and lifted his arm. "What about me, big sis??"
She looked at the lanky arm with no sense of strength, and Naia looked in disgust. "No thanks."
"..."
...
An hour later, Grandma and the Kids were allowed to rest. If they wanted to keep practicing, they could.
As for the teens, they had to start their strength training, starting with jogging.
This was no doubt torture for the two couch potatoes, and if it had been two days ago, they might not have been able to be consistent after a few days of hardship.
Children would tend to find it novel for a while, get tired and bored, and then they’d just forget about it.
However, they had experienced life and death recently, and the helplessness was fresh, so the psychological need to grow could continue to fuel their grit.
In a sense, she should be thankful to the robbers.
