Chapter 53: Preserving Memories

After doing the task, she went on to plan a few other things before sleeping.

She had the money, and her space had expanded a lot. She decided to fill it up first before wondering where to stay. With the kind of disasters they were facing, her space was the safest.

Before things settled down a bit after the Fall, even if there were some places in the shortlist, a permanent ’home’ post-apocalypse was still an illusory concept.

There were still a lot of things to buy, but she decided to fill another fraction with the long-term food like rice. She had a family now, and she could also exchange these things during the apocalypse for a high price.

According to the internet—not including luxuries as well as a new tank of water, which would have its own space—60% of the new dedicated area should be filled with grains like rice and wheat.

This was followed by 25% fats and oils, 10% protein concentrates, and 5% salt and sugar. This was also for quality of life. She, for one, definitely wouldn’t be able to survive on the same meals over and over, for a long period of time.

As for what she’d exchange these things for (should she decide to actually sell some goods during the apocalypse), she was thinking of the usual gems, jade, and special metals. Other than these, she could accept power cores as well.

Power cores were what triggered an awakeners’ powers, and they were found inside alien bodies. However, those wouldn’t appear until more than a year after the start of the disasters—Not to mention, those damned things were too difficult to kill without a core or a bazooka.

Other than those, she should probably stock up for items of convenience like underwear, tissue, feminine items, and so on. She also skimmed through the internet again, lest she had forgotten about anything.

Speaking of which, she had lurked around the internet for so long; how had she not encountered a single one of her ads? She should’ve appeared while she was doom scrolling by now.

Feeling the oddity, she then researched the possible reasons for this (like a wrong algorithm) and also went to search for her ad and its current status directly.

...only to find out it had been taken down pretty much the same day she posted it!!

When Naia fell asleep a few minutes later, she fell asleep in anger.

...

The next morning began as usual: Training.

Naia didn’t sleep well and was in a bad mood, so the twins’ exercises were harsher than they should have been.

After the thief incident, the two were practically starting to worship her, but they ended up crying so early in the morning! So sad!

While she was training the twins, Naia decided to be a bit leisurely today. She wasn’t in the mood to exercise. At this, she took out a camera she bought during one of her shopping sprees, documenting whatever she could before it disappeared.

And she really took pictures of everything; Whether it was the orchards, the farms, the cows, the sheep, the random wildflower at the side of the road, she captured them all within her lens.

She would then place the polaroid photo into her notebook, adding notes and so on.

The twins, after an hour or so of exercising, realized that their heartless trainer was relaxing next to the bushes, eating blueberries.

They sniffled, ready to act like babies (and hope she’d lighten up the next day) until they saw the polaroids!

"You’re taking pictures of everything, sister," Hans said, with that usual mellow voice of his. His eyes were sparkling at the camera, hoping to borrow but not daring to touch it.

It looked very expensive.

Naia saw his stare and smiled. "Follow me," she said, standing up, and she pulled them both to her room, right next to her suitcase.

From there, Naia magically revealed two items: a video-cam and a small laptop.

"Ohhh?"

They were in high school now, but in rural towns, computers weren’t something that each student had.

The rural students did homework either in the school computers or by handwriting. If it were required, she’d have given them laptops each when she arrived there, but that would just get the attention of other people, and it might not necessarily be a good thing for them.

"Use this at home, okay?" she said, handing the videocam to Hans. "As for you, I just hope you can record some daily scenes, ideally beautiful ones. You can also take a video of everyone, to preserve memories, even if they are mudane."

When the apocalypse comes, these videos...might become their source of strength. She wanted to give more options to them.

As for the laptop, she handed it over to Linlin, who blinked, a bit confused. "What...is this for, cousin?"

"Don’t you want one?" she asked, making the gesture of taking it back. Linlin reacted quickly and shielded it with her body.

"WANT!"

Naia chuckled. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

She knew that one of this girl’s hobbies was writing. They had talked about it during some meals.

After finding out that her million-worth of ads had been suspended, one of the things she searched for were alternatives.

The best thing she found was storytelling.

After searching, she found out her ads were banned because they allegedly ’spread misinformation’ and ’caused panic’. So she needed another format that was accessible to disseminate across the globe.

In the format of the internet, one of the best format for stories was called webnovels.

The girl wrote not only in a diary, but she had written actual stories. Naia had seen the younger girl’s notebook before.

"You read a lot of novels, right? How do you like the apocalypse genre?"

Everyone at least had a smart phone and the twins were avid readers of webnovels, especially those available for free during a set amount of time.

"Oh, I like reading them!" she said. "Why do you ask?"

"Then...can you write one?"

"Huh?"

She smiled, gently taping the laptop cover secured in the younger girl’s embrace.

"I have a story idea," she paused. "I hope you can help me write it."
