Chapter 73: Pets

"I suspect that it was why he was so eager to get rid of me, suspecting that I might have heard something~"

Hey, she was totally good at lying. These stories were flowing seamlessly out of her mouth! Should she just co-write that story with Linlin or something?

The policemen had no idea what she was thinking about, but their eyes sharpened at her words. After absorbing her information, they nodded, thanking her.

If that bastard had been smuggling guns in their country, and for who knew how long, then this case was even bigger than they thought!

Naia also didn’t stay and join the fun anymore, heading back to Freisa City to resume some of her shopping and get the adder snake checked.

Now that her space was even bigger, she naturally had to fill it up even more! She pawned a bit of the jewelry and sold some of the gold she looted from the basement, selling them to different shops, wearing a surgical face mask and hood just to be safe.

As for the antiques, she was tempted to sell them in the antique street, but was worried they were known stolen pieces or something.

She didn’t want to see any more officers today, thank you very much.

Even so, she still gained a few more million from the jewelry and gold bullion, signalling that she could go on another round of reckless shopping.

First thing she did was to buy a pet box for reptiles and placed the female adder snake inside. She had already given birth to little worms. Adder snakes didn’t lay eggs, so now the worms were already slithering inside her space.

She chose the largest pet store there for a larger chance of finding capable vets, and fortunately, the decision was correct. The adder snake got checked, and other than the fact that it was a bit weaker after birth, it was recovering well.

Along the way, she bought some ’house’ sets for snakes as well as several large bags of pet food, including cat food and dog food.

If her space could handle small animals now, they could keep more pets!

Don’t call her impractical, and no, they were not an emergency food supply, either!

Now that she saw these ’legendary’ creatures, she loved them quite a bit. She just felt that companionship and biodiversity were also important. Since she had the ability, why wouldn’t she?

Not to mention, high-quality dog food and cat food are nutrient-complete things. People could eat them too. She and her family wouldn’t, but the value of these would be invaluable come the Fall.

Another shop she passed through was an outdoor shop, the kind that was located in a standalone two-storey building and was very complete.

She bought the best quality things she could buy, such as high-quality tents—the type that can anchor and had complete waterproof and insulation functions— comfortable sleeping mats, flash lights, Swiss knives, portable stoves, portable water filters, and so on.

For non-edible items, including purchases moving forward, she was planning on limiting the area to about 1000 square meters, maximum, even if the space expanded.

Anyway, the ceiling height was high, and she could just create deck after deck, floor after floor, creating a vertical warehouse instead.

The rest of the area she planned to dedicate to farmlands and forests. She might dedicate some parts of next month to just taking in patches of orchards, farms, small lakes, and so on.

The land would be destroyed by the disasters, its vitality sucked up by those damned aliens. She wanted to preserve as much of this pristine land as she could.

Finally, she checked Maria’s store as well and, unsurprisingly, she was already holding a sale. Naia decided to help out and cleared her inventory.

The old lady just let the loan sharks have this property now for her peace, which was more important than anything. They didn’t have time to go through litigation, and this plot wouldn’t have much value after a few months, anyway.

The two of them had a snack together (with Naia getting boxes of take out of various desserts along the way), and then they parted ways amicably. Naia did not forget to show her the webnovel book link, belatedly thinking how convenient it would be if it were a hard copy instead of a digital one.

There would be no internet in the apocalypse. What if their readers forgot about it and wanted to reread for reference? Links were also a bit inconvenient to share with older people.

A new marketing plan formed in her mind, and she wondered about its execution while she shopped.

A few hours later, Naia looked up to see that the sky was already reddish, signalling dusk had descended. At this, she opened her phone to book herself a nice hotel with a buffet breakfast.

Unexpectedly, on the way to the hotel, she heard a meow. It wasn’t that there weren’t many strays around the city—because there were—but the desperation in its voice touched her. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

She looked down and saw an injured calico cat, rubbing its head on her legs. She paused and leaned down, gently kneading its head.

Meow

It then signaled for her to follow it. Her eyebrows rose. One had to know her passive was turned off (she did not want to attract city animals, especially rats) right now.

However, the cat still detected her and showed goodwill. She followed it in curiosity and soon saw something. It was a white fluffy cat, and it looked like it had a breed.

She immediately went to it when she saw its bloodied state. She had to stare for a moment to check if it was alive at all.

She saw it was breathing, albeit barely, and she hurried to handle it. She took out another box with a handle, placed the cat in her space, and then took it out and put it inside the box so it didn’t get shaken during the transfer.

Meow

The call was weak, as if she used all her remaining strength. It was heartbreaking.

"Don’t worry, little one," she said. "I’ll take you to safety."
