Chapter 69: Sylvia’s Mission
Closer to the peak of the mountain, the two disciples finally stopped by a beautiful mansion surrounded by an attractive flower garden.
The brightest color was from the red flowers, making the building look majestic and breathtaking.
Seraph’s eyes widened subtly. "This is where Elder Song stays?"
He was really surprised that the woman had such luxury, though after some thoughts, he realized that it was only fitting for someone like her. After all, she was an esteemed elder of the Soul Peak—the strongest faction in the entirety of Soul Cross Sect.
Compared to him who lived in the old, outer court dormitary, she was a queen.
Answering to his question, Sylvia nodded. "Yes. She should be at the backyard. Let’s go."
Seraph obediently followed behind her, wondering why the stunning woman had even called him in the first place.
Arriving at the balcony which possessed a sea of beautiful crimson flowers, Seraph finally saw the woman.
Silky black hair, black eyes, and fair skin that seemed too smooth to touch. Her beauty was unparalleled.
Seraph cupped his fists and bowed.
"Greetings, Elder Song."
The woman looked at him with a smile, then looked at Sylvia.
"So you brought him? Not bad. He’ll work perfectly."
Instantly, Seraph was confused.
"Wait what do you mean brought him?" He turned to Sylvia. "Didn’t you say she wanted to see me?"
Sylvia’s expression remained stoic. "Elder Song merely asked me to bring someone over. You’re convenient."
Seraph’s mouth opened and closed as he was at a loss for words. In the end, he could only close his mouth and fall silent.
She was older than him, so he let it slide out of respect.
"Well, in that case, I’m planning to send Sylvia on a mission, and I want someone to accompany her—for support and to help her with luggages."
Hearing the mature woman’s words, Seraph’s brows furrowed.
"Wait. Luggages? What are we going to do? A trip abroad?"
His words were sarcastic and insolent, but neither females paid any attention to that.
Beside him, Sylvia answered. "We’re going to explore a small cave. I don’t know the details that much, but we have to be careful."
Elder Song smiled and agreed with her, explaining better.
"You see, you’re looking for an egg. And if it’s there, then there’s a possibility that the mother is there too."
Seraph’s gaze became serious.
"Really? Ugh. I don’t think want to face any terrifying spirit beast though."
The woman laughed softly, then scanned him quickly. Her eyes widened as she sat up straight.
"Peak? Peak? Are you serious?"
She was definitely shocked by his current cultivation level. Wasn’t he just an Initial Advanced Stage cultivator a week ago?
Her aura fluctuated wildly, and she moved swiftly, grabbing Seraph by the shoulders.
"How did you do it? You can’t tell me it’s a result of your talent."
Seraph shrugged. "Honestly, you shouldn’t think too much. I was just lucky."
"Lucky?" Elder Song smiled bitterly. "Do you think luck is an easy factor?"
Seraph locked eyes with her for a moment, understanding her. To anyone, it was clearly bizarre and outright unbelievable. There was no way she’d accept something as flimsy as luck as an excuse.
Sighing, he explained. "I ate pancakes prepared by the nice girl in the beast farm. Then I suddenly found myself a level stronger when I woke up."
He didn’t mention that he knew it was a poison, as that would make them start questioning his source.
Elder Song’s eyes narrowed, and she paused. She was probably very shocked.
"Seraph. You said a girl at the beast farm. Are you sure?"
Hearing her strange question, Seraph raised an eyebrow. The woman had already dropped him so he had to look up to her.
"Yeah. A girl."
Elder Song’s expression became weirder as he answered, and she shook her head.
"The Soul Peak Beast Farm definitely does not allow female disciples to work there. Was she wearing our uniform?"
Seraph frowned too. "No, she was merely wearing some common clothes and looking very modest."
By his side, Sylvia interjected. "Was it only you two? Or were there other workers there at that time?"
Seraph shook his head slowly, as if confronting a truth he’d refused to see.
"Normally, there are over ten male workers at the farm, and they all work diligently without missing a day."
He froze, remembering that he hadn’t seen any other person on the beast farm that day.
Seeing his expression, Elder Song sighed and nodded confidently.
"You don’t need to worry. From what you said generated from her, she didn’t seem like she wanted to harm you."
Seraph reminisced Maria’s beautiful smiles, remembering how caring the girl was.
"I see." He nodded silently, arms folded. "Do you have an idea what or who she is?"
Elder Song pondered briefly. "That girl is definitely not simple. She’s probably a fairy, or an incredibly talented person."
"A fairy?!"
The two disciples reacted in shock, clearly not believing her.
Elder Song waved her slender hand dismissively.
"Forget it. I can’t start explaining that much. Instead, you two should focus on your mission."
The duo straightened, eyes blazing with curiosity.
The woman quickly explained to them. They were in search of a beast egg with rough, red shell. Although no one was sure what beast would emerge from the egg, Elder Song wanted it retrieved while the egg was unhatched.
"I think it should be pretty easy, right? After all, Sister Sylvia and I are at the Peak Advanced Stage."
The girl snorted. "Don’t jinx it with your poor mouth."
Elder Song watched the two of them with a smile.
"Regardless, you both should cooperate and work together. Don’t die."
Seraph’s smile remained confident as he nodded, while Sylvia’s expression remained stoic.
"Elder, I would be needing something, though."
The woman turned to him. "What’s that?"
"You see..."
Minutes later, they were fully prepared and ready to leave.
"Let’s go."
Smiling faintly, Seraph followed behind the girl, departing from the elder’s mansion.
With quick steps, the two dashed down the mountain, turning into blurs that sped down sharply.
"How is your current progress with connecting your soul?"
Seraph asked curiously, pressing his foot lightly over a stone and crossing several meters in a single leap.
With his cultivation at the Peak Advanced Stage, he felt extremely light, and reaching the base of the mountain was no longer a problem for him.
Moving at the same speed as he was, Sylvia replied casually.
"I’ve made contact with my soul a few times. I should be able to completely grasp the feeling soon."
Seraph nodded, pausing briefly as they had finally stopped at the base. "Same here. It doesn’t look that hard."
Sylvia glanced at him from the corner of her eyes.
’Not that hard? Several others are still struggling to make contact with their soul, and you...’
She sighed, deciding to stop her thoughts there. Instead, she looked around and began to lead the way.
Because the Soul Peak was in the middle of the sect, they still had to cross other peaks to leave the sect.
Passing between the Winter Peak and Solstice Peak, Seraph couldn’t help but wonder how Ariana was doing.
In his heart, he was determined to find her once he came back from helping Sylvia.
The two quickly left the sect, travelling a great distance between stopping at a mountain range with several cliffs.
Seraph looked around, his gaze sharp.
"It’s around this place?"
Sylvia nodded, looking at a small hole at the bottom of a little hill. Without saying a word, she stepped forward, her hair blowing wildly in the wind.
Seraph looked at her silently, tense and ready to respond in case she was in danger.
Sylvia crouched before the hole, then pulled out a rock. Instantly, other rocks collapsed, and an entrance large enough for a human to pass was formed.
Seraph blinked in surprise, then realized that she probably knew about the entrance before.
"Come on."
Nodding, he walked close to her, and they entered the cave together. Instantly, they were assaulted by a wave of hot air that made Seraph squint.
The atmosphere outside was slightly chilly, so why was this place very hot. Even Sylvia seemed uncomfortable.
However, with the mission ahead of them, they could only slowly make their way through the man-made tunnel.
"If I’m to guess, this tunnel links us to the chamber where the egg was spotted?"
Sylvia nodded and explained to him.
"Some miners were working here and unexpectedly discovered the egg. Unfortunately, the guardian beast was still with it so they ran back. One of our Soul Cross Sect disciples bought the information from them and brought it back to the sect."
Seraph’s rainbow eyes lit up. "Ohh, I see it now."
Her lengthy explanation did surprise him, but he merely attributed it to her being dutiful.
"Well, let’s head deeper and see if the mother hen is still there. Hopefully, she isn’t."
Giving a pale smile, Seraph shrugged and walked forward.
