Practicing Medical Skills in a Small Clinic
Chapter 473 - 224: Drunk? Director Zhang Calls Personally_3
The past three months of hard work and good fortune have changed his fate, allowing him to stand again.
In his heart, he silently wished that the driver could also soon emerge from the troughs of life.
After returning to the clinic, he quickly fell into a deep sleep.
He no longer needed to sleep in that small, stuffy attic.
Now there were so many rooms, any one of them could be a spacious bedroom.
...
When he woke the next day, it was already past eight forty in the morning.
At the door, there were buns and soy milk, packed in a plastic bag, placed on the window sill.
His phone had received a few short messages.
The buns and soy milk were bought by Tang Ping for him. She knew that sometimes Li Jingsheng was so busy he had no time to buy breakfast, so she brought him some.
That she didn’t call to wake him up despite it being so late showed her consideration for his hard work, deliberately letting him sleep a little longer.
Ou Qinglan also sent him a message on WeChat, saying she’d come to see Li Jingsheng after work tonight.
Probably, this young girl missed him.
When in love, being apart for a day feels like three years.
Last night, he was going to invite her to dinner together, but she didn’t want to come due to social anxiety.
They hadn’t seen each other all day.
Today would surely be another busy day for both of them.
He replied to her message, then went to the bathroom.
Hastily brushing his teeth, washing his face, and after breakfast, he hurried downstairs to the reception hall to work.
At the reception hall, the patients were being treated in an orderly fashion.
"Boss, these patients are waiting for you to personally attend to them. Siying has already taken the temperature and heart rate of some patients. It’s busy at the pharmacy, so she went over to help."
Now, the sale of medicines has shifted to a shelf format, making it much more convenient for regular customers to buy medicines.
New customers need explanations and help with getting membership cards, which is time-consuming.
Payment is fairly convenient, thanks to high levels of automation.
Tang Ping could also provide support.
Li Jingsheng began to diagnose the patients one by one.
"Dr. Li, I came specifically for you. My elderly father’s leg is broken. We consulted several hospitals back in our hometown, and all suggested surgery. Last time, you were incredible in setting my wife’s wrist, so we came specifically for you to take a look."
From his accent, he seems to be from around Jiangli City, not very far.
The elderly man with the broken leg was sitting in a wheelchair, groaning continuously, with a painful expression on his face.
They had already taken X-rays at a local hospital.
Li Jingsheng took the X-rays to examine them, noting a tibial fracture in the leg, which was not particularly difficult to treat.
The patient wasn’t as old as imagined, only 56 years old. At this age, he’s considered middle-aged.
"Didn’t he receive any treatment at the local hospital?"
"I heard they were going to operate, and knowing your expertise in bone setting, I rushed back overnight to bring my dad here."
"Thank you for trusting me. Let me examine him first; from the X-rays, the tibia fracture seems quite serious."
Faced with such loyal ’fans,’ Li Jingsheng had no choice but to do his utmost to treat them.
He could handle limb fractures as long as they weren’t too complex or severe.
After feeling the bones, he had the confidence he needed.
The charge was six hundred yuan.
It wasn’t expensive since it covered the costs for manual bone setting, splints, and bone healing ointment.
With Li Jingsheng’s current level of expertise in manual bone setting, he managed to reposition the leg bone without much trouble. He applied a cast and stabilized it, instructing the patient to go home and take good care.
Come back in a month for a check-up.
While instructing the patient and his family on care precautions, a young man around 25 or 26 rushed in from outside, looking panicked.
He held a child, about two or three years old, who was crying loudly.
"Doctor, doctor, my child accidentally cut his finger. Can it be treated here?"
"Let me see!"
Li Jingsheng hurried over to examine. The child’s left index finger had a deep cut at the first joint, barely held together by a thin layer of skin.
"I’ll do a simple bandage for the child. Please take him to a major hospital quickly; it should be possible to reattach it."
This kind of finger reattachment was beyond Li Jingsheng’s clinic’s capabilities.
Major hospitals could handle it, but the cost would certainly not be cheap.
As long as it could be reattached, that would be good.
The biggest fear was that it would fail to survive, leading to amputation, meaning double the expenditure without saving the finger. Doctors could only do their best; no one could guarantee success.
Currently, Li Jingsheng had only Tang Ping as a capable nurse, and even with Han Siying as a medical assistant, it was still a third-rate surgical team.
He could do ordinary minor surgeries, but for such high-precision, complex surgeries involving nerves, blood vessels, and tendon anastomosis, he’d need another two or three years to elevate his skills enough.
He was quite distant from that now.
After bandaging, the child’s bleeding reduced significantly and was essentially under control.
Li Jingsheng’s bandaging and hemostasis skills came into play.
"How much does this bandaging cost? I’ll scan to pay you."
"No charge; please hurry to a major hospital! The child is so small, it’s too hard for him."
At that moment, Li Jingsheng began to show a glimpse of a great doctor’s demeanor.
He earned money where it was due, not disdaining more.
But for such small matters, he helped wherever he could.
Moreover, he did it voluntarily.
"Thank you so much, really, thank you!"
The man thanked him and quickly took the child to a major hospital by taxi.
These were all just daily occurrences at the clinic, small episodes really, as he continued to diligently treat each patient.
He noticed that after enhancing the immune diagnosis the night before, it seemed to aid in diagnosing almost all diseases.
By around ten o’clock, Li Jingsheng’s phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.
"Hello, who are you looking for?"
"Is this Dr. Li? I am Zhang Zhongsheng, a physician from the Urology Department of the Second Hospital!"
"Oh, hello, Director Zhang!"
Li Jingsheng had heard of Zhang Zhongsheng’s reputation. He was quite an accomplished figure in the Urology Department of the Second Hospital.
His surgical skills were reputed to be particularly exquisite.
"I’ve seen the diagnostic thought process you wrote last night. Currently, an X-ray of the pelvis has been done for the patient, revealing an indistinct structure in the right iliac bone, with uneven density indicating worm-eaten-like bone destruction and no focal bone hyperplasia. The left side of the pelvis shows no abnormality. The right side pelvis reveals metastatic bone tumors and osteolytic destruction. It seems your diagnosis was correct; the patient is likely suffering from a malignant tumor."
Zhang Zhongsheng’s tone was both praising and somewhat heavy.
"I had heard that the orthopedics department was recruiting an outstanding young doctor. I didn’t think much of it before, but now I see how high your level truly is. The patient is now arranged for a lung CT; as soon as the pelvic X-ray report came out, I thought to inform you promptly."
This wasn’t a chief physician talking to a small resident physician but a tone of equal footing.
And it carried a hint of appreciation and goodwill.
"Thank you for valuing my input. The patient’s lung infection is also feared to be a malignant tumor!"
Li Jingsheng sighed.
He wasn’t the least bit surprised by this outcome.
When he examined the female patient’s bones yesterday, he could already determine it was undoubtedly a bone tumor.
Bone tumors are more common in children and adolescents. In adults, they typically result from metastasizing cancer cells.
That is, bone tumors aren’t the primary lesion.
"Ah! If it is indeed so, encourage her to enjoy her meals! She’s not even forty yet, what a pity."
Zhang Zhongsheng also sighed along.
As doctors, when encountering such situations, the heart always grows heavy.
But there’s nothing one can do.
They can only hope human medical science and technology can advance more rapidly, to conquer malignant tumors soon. The good news is that, abroad, targeted drugs capable of eliminating various cancer cells have recently been developed.
They are more advanced than the current chemotherapy drugs and have relatively fewer side effects.
The most significant advancement is that they no longer target a single type of cancer cell but can target multiple types instead.
This is truly something to look forward to.
Perhaps in a few years, treating cancer will indeed become as simple as treating a cold.
