Pregnant and Pampered: The Heiress in a Military Compound
Chapter 152: Raising the Bar
The foreigners began arriving at the airport one by one that afternoon, their expressions arrogant and no different from when they had appeared for the last Autumn Trade Fair.
Just like before, they went to the guesthouse reserved exclusively for foreign guests, and they were loud whether they were talking or eating.
No one could understand their foreign chatter, so people automatically kept their distance to avoid trouble.
After all, they had heard a story. When last year’s Spring Trade Fair ended, a foreigner on a train stepped on a Chinese person’s foot. Instead of apologizing, he beat up the person he had stepped on!
Such ill-mannered, immoral people would surely look for any opportunity to bully them!
So, the Chinese people all subconsciously kept their distance from the foreigners. They didn’t want to get into any conflicts with them at a time like this and cause trouble for the country.
Since the guesthouse was nearby, many people went to the local restaurants for their meals.
Of course, the foreigners had no intention of causing trouble at this time either.
They just kept to themselves, chatting.
When Xie Changyi and Xie Changning walked in, quite a few foreigners turned to look at them. Then, one of the foreigners stood up, his lips parting with an expression that looked very exaggerated to a Chinese person, and greeted Xie Changning.
"Oh, Xie!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
’...’ Xie Changning thought. ’Thanks a lot. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you’re swearing at me.’
The man greeting Xie Changning was none other than Jerry, who had become the distributor for the Anong County Machinery Factory’s small printers when she had previously traveled abroad.
He walked up to Xie Changning and offered her a handshake.
Xie Changning smiled faintly and shook his hand. "Hello, Jerry. Are you getting used to things here?"
"Very much so! China truly is a great nation. The hotels for guests are all this!" Jerry gave Xie Changning a thumbs-up.
The sight of the two of them chatting so cheerfully caught the eyes of people from various countries, especially the other foreigners. They frowned, apparently not expecting Xie Changning and Jerry to be so familiar with each other.
Smith, who had come with Jerry, also greeted Xie Changning.
Xie Changning turned to Xie Changyi. "This is Jerry, the general distributor in the United States for the Anong County Machinery Factory’s small printers. And this is his subordinate, Smith."
After hearing this, Xie Changyi extended her hand and shook his.
"Hello, I’m Xie Changning’s older sister, Xie Changyi."
The moment Xie Changyi spoke, also in fluent English, Jerry and Smith couldn’t help but exchange a knowing glance.
’Xie’s sister must be an impressive person, too.’
Since they were acquainted, Xie Changning and Xie Changyi sat down to eat with Jerry and Smith.
Jerry and Smith had a decent supermarket supply chain in the United States, and Xie Changning was sitting here with a purpose.
She took two travel-sized packs of facial soap from her bag. "I know people abroad love to travel, so I have two travel-sized packs of facial soap here. What do you think?"
Travel size?
Jerry’s eyes lit up instantly. He looked at the item Xie Changning had taken out, turning it over to inspect it before holding it in his hand and sniffing it a couple of times. "I’ll take it."
Jerry was a businessman, and he understood perfectly well what it meant for Xie Changning to show him the facial soap.
He was an acquaintance of Xie Changning’s. Her showing him the product before the trade fair even began was a signal for him to think about whether he wanted to partner with her.
But Jerry thought Xie Changning was a talent (actually, it was his father who thought so and had specifically told him to build a good relationship with her), so Jerry agreed without a second thought.
"Xie, airlines in my country have mini-sized items like this, but they aren’t on the general market yet. I’ll need to test the market before I can decide whether to become a distributor."
Jerry’s words made Xie Changyi’s lips curl into a smile.
She looked at Jerry and explained, "These two facial soaps are also newly launched products. As for the distributorship model, we don’t have plans for that yet."
Hearing Xie Changyi say this, Jerry grew anxious.
"Why not? If the business is good, I’m perfectly willing to pay a distributorship fee!"
"Because the products I plan to make next are a complete set of toiletries," Xie Changning explained to Jerry. "If you’re going to be a distributor, it would be for our entire brand, not just a single product."
’The profit margin for a single distributorship is too low; of course I wouldn’t agree to that now.’
Jerry finally understood that Xie Changning had more new products in development. He nodded. "Alright. If sales are good, I’ll come talk to you during the Autumn Trade Fair about distributing the personal care brand."
Xie Changning’s lips curved into a smile.
"I’ll be waiting."
The two of them had a pleasant conversation, and both got what they wanted. As a result, the meal was exceptionally enjoyable.
After Xie Changning and Xie Changyi left, Smith couldn’t help but ask Jerry, "Sir, about becoming a distributor... don’t we need to evaluate the product and—"
Before he could finish, Jerry raised a hand to cut him off.
"About Xie Changning... am I the one who’s clueless here, or are you?"
"?"
’I really don’t have a clue!’ Smith wanted to say. ’How could our manager agree to it so casually!’
「Outside the restaurant」
Xie Changyi looked at Xie Changning. "You seem to have him wrapped right around your finger."
"I do not," Xie Changning said, her face a mask of innocence.
The people who had come out with them were also curious. How did she manage to sweet-talk a foreigner, and so successfully at that?
(They had been walking behind Xie Changning and Xie Changyi and had overheard their conversation, learning that Xie Changning had already secured the distributorship in the United States for the small printers during her previous trip abroad.)
After dinner, the group returned to the guesthouse one by one to sleep, resting up for the first day tomorrow.
「The next day」
Xie Changning brought her team to the trade fair, set up their display board, and then placed a sign at the entrance to the exhibition hall. The sign, written in eight languages, gave directions to her booth and included charming, simple drawings of the items for sale.
As soon as the foreigners approached the main exhibition hall, they saw the sign at the entrance, which described the products in great detail.
What surprised the foreigners most were the eight languages.
They couldn’t help but be curious, wondering what kind of genius would put up a sign in eight languages.
Unable to suppress their curiosity, and drawn in by the amusing simple drawings on the sign, the foreigners immediately headed straight for the booth at the very back of the hall.
Their objective was crystal clear.
Quite a few foreigners arrived, but they all made a beeline for Xie Changning’s booth. This caused many of the other factory managers to peer toward the back of the hall, chattering amongst themselves about what on earth was going on.
As for the factories with booths at the very front, they knew exactly what was happening.
They couldn’t really say Xie Changning was playing dirty. After all, she had just put up a sign. If they wanted to, they could do the same—
Having reached this conclusion, they all watched Xie Changning with sour jealousy.
They were also beginning to realize the benefit of having a translator at their factory.
Just like Xie Changning now, who could personally negotiate with people and introduce her own factory’s products. They decided they would start recruiting their own translators as soon as they got back!
