Chapter 1596: Chaos Essence

From what Princess Pandora told Kent, the Tormented Chaos Abyss has three layers: the Tormented Layer, the Chaos Layer, and the Abyss Layer.

The Tormented Layer houses demigod-level Chaos Beasts and below. The majority of them, however, are Immortal Lords and Demigods.

It has five regions: East, West, North, South, and Central. In every region, at least four demigod-level beasts can be found, along with thousands of Immortal-level Chaos Beasts.

These demigods rule the regions, but that doesn’t mean they are the only demigods in the Tormented layer.

The Central Region, however, has only one beast, the Crimson Blood Demon General.

Kent’s mission this time is to kill that bastard and complete the chain quest that will start updating once he arrives in the Tormented Chaos Abyss.

Of course, saturating his Chaos Heart is of utmost importance. It was the main reason he wanted to venture into the Tormented Chaos Abyss in the first place.

However, now that his regeneration ability has become monstrous, he has become aware that just by being there would be enough. The killing part would be a bonus at this point.

Even before entering the Tormented Chaos Abyss, his Chaos Heart went from 5% saturation to 10%, and that was simply by converting Spiritual Qi to Chaos Qi. What, then, happens when he arrives in a domain with pure Chaos Qi that is easy to absorb?

Kent had yet to find out, so as he stood on Ryoa’s back, plunging deep into the abyss, he looked forward to what would happen.

***

Two days later, Ryoa broke through a thick storm cloud, descending at a terrifying speed. Kent stood relaxed, his focus directed at the world below them.

He had finally arrived at the Tormented Chaos Abyss, and all he could feel in the air was Chaos Essence. He felt an abundance of it, so as they descended, his body began to open up to absorb the energy in the air.

"Tower, get to work."

Kent commanded, and Tower started using the Star Compass to scan the new world he had arrived in. While the Star Compass didn’t work as intended, it had been a valuable help.

Had it not been for it, Tower would have struggled to map out its locations.

However, now that Tower had become much stronger, she was able to tap into the complete power of the Star Compass and quickly map out the domain they had appeared in.

"We have arrived in the Northern Region of the Tormented Layer. I have scanned this entire region and located all four demigods. I will display their profiles."

Kent nodded and read through the profiles of the four demigod beasts he might face in the Northern Region.

While he had no reason to pick a fight, Kent knew testing out his abilities before meeting the Crimson Blood Demon General would be wise.

Already, he anticipated a good battle, so he wanted to make sense of his abilities first before meeting such a powerhouse.

"Looks like they would be good sport for the start."

Kent laughed and then pointed at a mountain 30 km away. "Ryoa, land there."

The bone dragon flew toward the mountain. In no time, they landed, and Kent jumped down. Ryoa transformed back into his humanoid form and spread his senses across the entire Northern Region.

After a few seconds, he smiled. "Looks like they are a bit powerful, Master. Are you up for this, especially against the Tree Dragon?"

Kent smiled and answered, "Even if I am not up for it, I can kill them using my Soul Universe, so you have nothing to worry about."

Ryoa smirked. "I truly have nothing to worry about, Master. I am a True God at the moment, so joining the battle of demigods isn’t something my pride would allow me to do. This is why I plan on venturing into the Chaos Layer while you play here at the Tormented Layer."

Kent turned, looked at his Living Weapon, and chuckled. "Then why are you still here if you intend to abandon me?"

Ryoa shook his head, knowing full well Kent would love to have him by his side. However, knowing what Kent came here to do, Ryoa realizes that combining their powers would be a disaster.

So he had to go to make sure Kent tested his abilities to their fullest potential.

"Before I leave, can you give me some of those Grim Contracts? I need about five."

Kent didn’t bother to ask why he needed the contracts. Reaching into his Soul Universe, Kent pulled out five tokens and handed them over to Ryoa.

"Make sure you don’t pick a fight you cannot win."

"You know me already, Master. I always win, no matter the odds." The moment those words left his mouth, he turned into a dark beam and disappeared into the distance.

Watching him go, Kent shook his head and smiled. "I should probably look for a new weapon. Knowing how unruly living weapons can be, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gaap also started running off on his own solo adventures."

Kent chuckled and sat down in a lotus posture.

Turning to the system screen, he opened the message that had appeared.

---

[You have received the first quest (1/4).]

[Quest Level: SS]

– Objective: [Kill or contract all four demigod beasts in the Northern Region.]

– Reward: [10 Grim Contracts, Ten Chaos Stones.]

---

"Sounds like my mission has been handed to me." Looking at the objective, he knew meeting the demigods was inevitable.

"I just hope they aren’t a disappointment."

Turning his attention to other messages he had received, Kent allowed his body to absorb the Chaos Essence in the air for the time being.

At the same time, while that was happening, the cocoon inside his Soul Sea housing the Dragon Intent was also progressing quickly.

By the time he had fully saturated his Chaos Heart, that too would be ready.

The only thing keeping him on edge now was the tree growing inside his Soul Sea. While a part of him believed he had nothing to worry about, he knew he could not lower his guard.

If by any chance he managed to get something good out of it, then thanks to his luck.

However, if the outcome was as dangerous as Tower made it sound, then perhaps he would have a good battle and hopefully earn something worthwhile from it later.

Kent remained seated for five hours, taking his Chaos Heart from 12% to 25%. By then, he felt like he was ready to handle the first of four quests he would be embarking on.

The Grim Contract is a unique beast contract that, when signed between a beast tamer and a beast, grants half of the beast’s soul strength to the beast tamer.

While the beast won’t feel anything even after half of their soul essence is taken away, the beast tamer surely would feel the change. So if Kent were to use it on the demigod beasts, his soul would become much stronger.

"Tower, which of the demigod beasts is closest to my current location?"

"Sounds like it would be a perfect target to test my dragon abilities on."

Feeling confident, Kent stood up and activated his dragon wings. Now that he had become an Immortal, he had no reason to use the [Jade Void Wings], especially not against a demigod.

Taking to the air, he disappeared into the distance, speeding toward Yggzrael, the Frozen Tree Dragon.
