Chapter 24 Quest Selection and the First Quest
Monday night.
After returning home from university, Shiori quickly finished her chores and logged into the world of "Fantasia World."
"Phew... Okay, then, as we decided yesterday, let’s go look for quests at the ’Guild’."
The location is the plaza in front of the fountain in Middle City.
After confirming that she had successfully logged in, Shiori immediately headed to the ’Guild’ in search of a quest.
And after arriving at the ’Guild’...
Shiori started checking the quest board.
"Hmm...that quest isn’t showing up...oh, this looks interesting...this is that dungeon over there, right? I know where it is, so I’ll save it...this looks good...this one’s fine too..."
Shiori stared at the bulletin board installed on the wall of the ’Guild’.
This bulletin board had a system where ten different quests, available through the guilds in "Middle City," were posted daily.
There are no selection criteria for the quests posted on this bulletin board; they are completely random. Therefore, even if you find a quest you’re interested in posted online, you may not be able to accept it immediately.
However, once you confirm that it has been posted,
The official website states that it’s important to check your quest history regularly, as you can accept quests from it at any time.
You can accept a maximum of five quests at a time.
If you try to take on any more, you’ll have to cancel something else.
When you accept a quest, it is first saved in an accepted state.
Selecting it from the menu and starting it would begin the quest, and quest instructions and a dedicated NPC would appear.
"Okay, let’s go with these."
After thinking for a while and looking at the bulletin board, Shiori chose five quests—the maximum number she could accept.
"Grape Harvest — Recommended Level: 20"
"Defeat the Lustful Orc — Recommended Level: 20"
"Collecting Golden Nectar — Recommended Level: 20"
Let’s start with these three.
These quests were chosen because they were among the ones posted online that Shiori found interesting.
And the remaining two were
"Capture the Robbery Gang — Recommended Level: 25"
"Maid Wanted — Recommended Level: 25"
One of them is a quest related to the gang of robbers she was defeated by in a random event the other day.
She found it while searching this time, so she figured she might as well try it again as a quest, and chose it.
And the other one, judging from the description, is a quest where you are simply hired as a maid in a mansion.
However, its recommended level is among the highest of all quests available at the Middle City guild, alongside the robbery gang quest.
Although the details were unknown because it wasn’t posted online, she was absolutely certain there was something to it.
That’s how Shiori interpreted it, so she accepted the quest.
"I’ve got exactly five, so... let’s try one quest each day and enjoy the erotic events. If a bad route is unlocked along the way, we can watch them all together on Saturday or Sunday..."
"Okay, so first up is the ’Grape Harvest’..."
Once Shiori had accepted five quests, she decided to start with the first one she had chosen, "Grape Harvest," and began heading towards the designated location.
"Grape Harvest."
The client is an elderly man who owns a certain vineyard. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
He was planning to harvest the grapes he’d been growing because they were ripe, but he hurt his back and can no longer do so.
If we leave it like this, we’ll miss the perfect time to harvest the grapes and they’ll go bad. So he needs you to go and harvest them for him.
That was the content of the quest.
Based on that description alone, it sounded like a simple collection-type quest,
But the old man had told Shiori that there was some information they should know together.
This quest had the potential to trigger combat depending on the reason and the player’s actions.
"Okay, we’ve arrived."
Shiori arrived at the "Grape Orchard," a field she could now access thanks to accepting the "Grape Harvest" quest, located in a corner of the "Eastern Grasslands."
The location had grapevines lined up at equal intervals.
It was a place with an atmosphere that made you think it could actually exist in reality.
"Well then... let’s get started."
Shiori slung the basket that had been placed at the entrance onto her back and immediately began harvesting grapes.
The work itself was simple: just reach for the branches where the grapes were growing and pick an entire bunch at a time. There were no obstacles during the process, and the basket was filled in no time.
The old man had asked for two baskets’ worth, so Shiori went back to get another basket.
"Phew...!"
"Hey, you there!"
So Shiori decided to take a break and sat down on a nearby log when suddenly someone’s angry shouting rang out.
"This is my vineyard. What do you think you’re doing harvesting the grapes without permission?!"
"...Huh, what...? Wait, the ’Guild’ asked me to harvest this place for the old man who owns it...!"
The person who appeared was a young man wearing black work clothes.
The man, with a look of utter rage on his face, approached Shiori and yelled at her repeatedly.
Seeing the man shouting, Shiori thought for a moment... and then, looking flustered, explained why she had come.
"...Huh!? Oh, that old man. That old man’s vineyard isn’t here! It’s somewhere else!"
"W-What?! But he definitely said it was here! Look, the map clearly shows this place..."
After listening to Shiori’s explanation, the man thought for a moment... and then replied.
Shiori looked surprised by what he said, and with that expression, she showed him the map she had been given.
"...What? But I can’t imagine that old man would give the wrong directions to his vineyard... You’re not a poacher, are you...? I thought my grapes were disappearing even though I hadn’t picked any recently, but I never imagined you were the culprit...!"
"...Huh, what!?"
The man, having been given the map by Shiori, looked at it for a while, thinking...and then, as he glanced at Shiori’s face and body, he made a lecherous expression and slowly said, as if to imply he was very wary.
Poachers.
That information came from the elderly client.
The message was along the lines of, "Poaching has been frequent at other farms recently, so it might happen at your farm too. Please be careful during harvest time."
They mistook her for a poacher.
Seeing the situation, Shiori looked flustered and desperately tried to explain herself.
"N-No, that’s not true...!? I’m not a poacher! It’s a misunderstanding!"
"Really...? ...For now, I’ll go along with that..."
The man, after hearing Shiori’s explanation, reluctantly nodded, then looked at Shiori’s body with a gaze that seemed to lick her with his eyes.
Shiori called out to him, lifting a basket full of grapes that she had just been harvesting.
"For now, I’ll take these grapes back. But I’m not letting you go yet."
"She might still be hiding some grapes she picked from me... So, I’m going to have someone check if she has any others. Follow me...!"
"...Okay, I understand..."
Upon hearing those words, Shiori slowly nodded, and the man led her to a nearby hut.
