Chapter 12: Ch 12: Late Night Session

Although Seraphina did not say that she wanted to read, the desire to learn was growing in her eyes.

She followed him silently to the library but stopped right outside with an awkward look on her face.

Seraphina looked conflicted about whether she was allowed inside the library or not, so Kael gently reached out and grabbed her hand before tugging her inside.

"There is no need to feel awkward. This is your home as well and you are allowed inside."

The future saintess finally nodded and stepped inside the library. Her eyes widened as she saw huge racks of books towering above her head and they intimidated her.

Kael snapped his fingers and most of the racks were disguised by his magic. That helped Seraphina feel less nervous, and he led her toward the sofa and had her sit down.

He allowed her to get comfortable before he started asking questions.

"Do you know how to read or write?"

The answer was ’no,’ but he did not want Seraphina to feel like she was being stalked by him. So he waited for her to answer before he brought out the first book.

It was a book that beginners used, and the only reason he had it was because his master had given it to him when he first started learning at the age of three.

Kael had spent fifteen minutes learning the book. But he knew that most people did not have his learning speed.

He watched Seraphina open the book and immediately get confused.

"Since you are not familiar with any of these characters, I will start with you from the beginning. It will also be easier if you write these down at the same time. This will help you remember them for longer."

Kael gave her a notebook to write things down in and helped her get through her first session.

Seraphina looked much more confident after her first lesson, which made Kael feel relieved. He was finally making progress with her.

While Kael was busy planning out the future, Seraphina was dealing with the new emotions she was starting to feel.

Her heart was beating faster by the second and she tried to control her feelings. But she felt too much at the moment. She was even having weird thoughts about all this.

’I want to keep having these private sessions alone with Teacher. I don’t want Leon to join us. Should I ask for that...?’

In the end, Seraphina decided not to ask because she did not want to come across as selfish. But more than that, she felt scared of her own thoughts.

She did not even know when she had gotten so selfish. But the guilt she was supposed to feel did not come.

...

Dinner was a quiet affair as well, and Kael finally decided to tell Leon about his new sessions in the library.

Seraphina had an unhappy expression, but before Kael could ask her what was bothering her, Leon decided to accept his offer.

After some light exercise after dinner, everyone headed to their rooms. Kael allowed himself to relax before he started working on a private project.

Kael’s body needed rest, but he could substitute it with magic. It was not a long-term solution, but he still decided to do it anyway. After all, the sooner he could familiarize himself with his research, the better it would be for him.

He did not know how long he spent re-reading his notes and figuring out where he was in his research before he heard the sound of footsteps walking past his room.

It was late at night and the kid should be asleep. So he decided to check who was walking around at night.

Kael’s eyes fell on Leon, who seemed to be sleepwalking. His eyes were open, but it did not seem as if he was seeing anything. The hero was acting like he was swinging his sword and his movements looked practiced.

It was a concerning development that Kael did not recall.

But it was also possible that he had never seen it in his past life because he had intentionally placed his room away from Leon’s in his past life.

That had created a rift between them that never healed.

Right now, Kael was going to behave like a teacher should and help his student out.

"Leon, are you alright? Can you hear me?"

He asked, and Leon looked at him with blank eyes. But instead of answering him, the younger one attacked him outright.

Leon had no sword, so even if he attacked Kael, he would not be able to do any damage. And as Kael had told him in the morning, he was not at a level where he could face Kael.

It was easy for Kael to knock Leon out for good with his magic and then place Leon back in his room. But this time, he placed a spell on Leon so that he would get a good night’s sleep and not sleepwalk.

Once the hero was secured, Kael headed back toward his room and stretched his limbs out to get rid of the tension building up.

He was about to open his room’s door when he heard another set of footsteps walking around. He looked for the source and found Seraphina walking around as well. But unlike Leon, she looked awake and concerned.

Kael could have ignored her, but he decided not to. Since he had decided to help her this time, he wanted to do it right.

Seraphina leaned against the window and pressed her face against the glass. She was looking outside when Kael decided to approach her from behind.

He snapped his fingers and the space outside the window brightened instantly. It made Seraphina jump back in shock and clutch her chest to calm herself down.

"Are you alright? Did the light startle you? I tried to make the outside brighter for you so that you could see better. Did that startle you? Are you alright?"

Kael asked with a concerned expression, and Seraphina nodded with a blush on her face. She quickly controlled her emotions but could not hide her embarrassment properly.

"I am alright. I am sorry for walking around the house late at night. I will head back to my room now-"

"You don’t have to. As I said before, this is your home and I am here to help you out with your problems. Would you like to talk to me about them?"

Kael asked, and Seraphina looked tempted. But she shook her head in the end. But she did make a request that assured Kael that he was making progress with her.

"I...can you just stay with me out here for a while? I think I just need company."
