Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster
Chapter 1017: Maiden Demons
The moment she uttered those words, the demon’s eyes widened. Even the demons down below froze. Evidently, they could hear everything — from the most minute details to all the gossip around the cathedral.
Yet there were a few slightly older Maiden Demons whose interest was piqued. Some of them shared certain characteristics with Lilith. For example, the way she had dimples, and the expressions they made when they were happy.
If Rael had to guess, those people down there were her family. Or rather, her relatives. He wasn’t sure what it took to become a Maiden Demon, aside from being born as one, so he wasn’t sure if she could potentially have a grandmother or whatever.
But giving a quick scan across all the people present down there, Rael was sure there was no one. The only family she had left were her siblings that she didn’t get along with, as well as her father, who had left her to live a better and more carefree life.
Honestly, it was a bit sad. Rael wished that he could help in some way, and obviously he could. He had enough power nowadays to restore a destroyed soul, or even bring back the dead. In fact, bringing back the dead was like a menial task to him now.
Still, whether it was bringing back her mother or reviving her grandparents, Rael knew that the only thing this would do was build resentment. Deep down, everyone wanted to see their family once more, but for them to be alive way past their death...
Maybe I’m just too selfish, but I wouldn’t mind. I should definitely ask Lilith, Rael thought, rubbing the back of his neck as Lilith began detailing her mother’s appearance. As it so happened, she was just a slightly more angelic-looking replica of Lilith, which was why the demon listening to her was especially surprised and shocked.
In the end, the demon had enough proof to make an assumption, and the assumption it made was simple.
"Y-You’re really Celeste’s daughter... We’ve been waiting for you to return and awaken as a Maiden Demon. Ah... Yes. The only prerequisite is that you vow to put aside all of your emotional ties and choose to become a complete Maiden."
Hmm?
"Excuse me?" Lilith frowned. "Do you think I came here with my husband just so I could become a nun?"
The demon turned toward Rael, his eyes widening. "Husband? But you’re a Maiden Demon! You’re not allowed to have relations with anyone... Your only duty and purpose is to serve as a Maiden for all of eternity."
"Damn, here I thought you guys looked nice because you were nice. Turns out you’re super duper traditional and racist," Rael said with a sigh. "On that note, you should probably fuck off now and show her to where her mother is buried. Otherwise, I will personally make sure you eat your own intestines."
A threat like that was something the demon wasn’t expecting in the slightest. Lilith appreciated it, though. She had heard about the Maiden Demons plenty in the past, and they were proud creatures, as well as very powerful.
They served some kind of Demon God that had something to do with purity. Meanwhile, since she was still technically a virgin despite all the things she had done, she could become one, but honestly... Becoming a nun was definitely not on her bingo card.
After all, the only thing she wanted to do was indulge in some déjà vu. For one, her father had met her mother here. He had technically kidnapped her and then the two fell in love. Although it was morally gray, it worked out in the end, since both of them were happy.
But sadly, she had been killed by the jealous wives. Lilith still detested those women from the bottom of her heart, and although they were scattered all around the Demon Realm hiding, she was determined to one day find them all and kill them.
With that in mind, the thing she wanted to do most now was show Rael off to her mother, even if she was dead.
And so, the demon decided to finally shut up and lead the way across the cathedral. There were plenty of gazes — some of which were oddly jealous, while others were strangely calm and pleasant. There were some among even these Maiden Demons that recognized Lilith, evidently.
Though none of them were brave enough to even approach her. Was it because of Rael? They did seem like they despised emotional ties a lot, so maybe they were just far too scared of falling for his natural seduction, perhaps?
Whatever it was, Rael didn’t bother himself with these goofballs, as he was more interested in wherever he was being taken. In the very center of the cathedral, there was a library much like the one he had seen in Adam’s cathedral.
Except here, there was a special code that one would use — specifically, flicking certain books — to be let into a private room. A staircase met him, and the three of them soon began to descend. Lilith was visibly fidgeting, so he went ahead and placed his hand on her shoulder, rubbing it slightly.
Once she turned to him, she gave him a nod, the fidgeting vanishing completely as she regained her confidence. It was almost like that was all she needed.
And so, in just a few minutes, the three of them arrived at the bottom of the staircase and were met with a surprising sight. In front of them was an infinite-looking world — a clear sky overhead and even some sunshine.
But the sunshine didn’t do this place justice... Since as far as the eye could see, Rael was met with graves, crosses, and burial sites. There were even some piles of bones and many other remnants of the past.
"This is where all the Maiden Demons are buried. Every single one of them... Whether they were traitors, exiles, or deities. Under the gaze of the Demon God, we are all equal."
