Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!
Chapter 508: Test Results
In an instant, it seemed as if all the zombies in the entire building were rushing towards this floor.
The zombies trampled over other zombies’ bodies, relentlessly charging at the Base Commander.
Even though the lightning on the Base Commander was enough to strike them dead instantly, the zombies did not hesitate at all.
The Base Commander didn’t hesitate; he sent all those rushing zombies on their way to be good people in the next life.
In less than an hour, the pile of zombie bodies had reached the ceiling, and countless zombies were crawling over the pile, barely squeezing through the gaps.
In the end, there wasn’t even a single gap left.
The furious roars of the zombies rang out from behind the mountain of corpses.
"Quiet—"
An abrupt, harsh, raspy voice broke out.
The voice sounded like a child’s, yet it lacked the crisp and pleasant tone of a child’s voice, as well as any hint of innocence.
In an instant, the angry roars of the zombies quieted down, and the bustling building fell into silence.
The Base Commander’s face showed no sign of surprise.
He had already encountered more than one or two Zombie Kings; the owner of this voice was merely a High Level Zombie who had just learned to speak, posing no threat to him.
He raised his eyes and looked at the mountain of corpses in front of him, which began to shift slowly.
It wasn’t that the bodies were moving, but a zombie was rummaging through the corpses, causing it to look like the corpses were moving.
The lightning on the Base Commander flickered indiscernibly, as he calmly watched the shifting bodies of zombies.
Soon after, a decaying head emerged.
This was the rotten head of a child, its face beaming with a wide smile that nearly reached its ears, with black blood constantly seeping from the corners of its mouth.
From its appearance, it was a High Rank Little Zombie about six or seven years old.
Judging by the decayed flesh on its face, it had not yet reached the rank of Corpse King.
The black gums opened and closed, the harsh, raspy voice echoed in the silent building.
"Do you think I look like my dad?"
The zombie child grinned at the Base Commander, but there was a hint of angry roar in its voice. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"I don’t know your dad."
The Base Commander spoke calmly.
The zombie child hesitated for a moment, slowly withdrew its head, and the zombie corpses started to move again, seeming like it was searching for someone inside.
Ten minutes later, the decaying head surfaced again from the middle of the pile, clutching an adult zombie’s corpse in its rotten little hand.
The adult zombie was bulky; there was no way a child of six or seven could move it.
Moreover, the adult zombie’s body was weighed down by a mountain of zombie corpses.
The child’s zombie hand seemed devoid of muscle, all rotted flesh, yet the power was terrifyingly strong, a casual tug and the adult zombie was pulled out.
"Do we look alike?"
The zombie child’s mouth stretched again to its ears, eyes devoid of childish innocence, tinged with bloodthirstiness.
The reason the child ended up here was because a neighbor said it didn’t look like its dad, prompting its dad to come for a DNA test.
Coincidentally, that was the day the apocalypse descended, and he never returned home.
Generally, after turning into zombies, human memories became muddled, only special obsessions could be recalled after becoming High Level Zombies.
Whether he looked like his father or not was his obsession.
A child of six or seven, originally an age of innocence, was doubted by his father for not being his biological child due to a neighbor’s idle gossip.
Brought inexplicably to this institution, blood drawn for testing...
The Base Commander glanced at the zombie corpse, its features entirely decayed, terrifying to behold.
Unable to discern single or double eyelids, let alone whether they looked alike!
The Base Commander looked again at the exposed rotting head.
Just identifiable as a little zombie, eyes, nose, mouth all located on the face, yet shrouded in rotting flesh, impossible to distinguish.
However, the Base Commander noticed a crucial feature — the child’s face shape differed from the adult’s.
The child had a round face, with a small head, whereas the adult’s face was elongated.
Based solely on the face shape, they didn’t look biologically related.
Yet, face shape couldn’t determine biological relatedness.
The Base Commander spoke seriously, "We’ll need an experiment for this."
"What kind of experiment?"
The zombie child’s voice remained as husky, yet carried a hint of excitement.
Obsession, for zombies, especially sentient zombies, brought pain.
"DNA test."
The Base Commander pointed to the door behind him.
"Alright!"
The zombie child nodded its decaying head.
It didn’t really understand what a DNA test was, only knowing its father had come to ask the people inside if he was biologically related.
With the apocalypse outbreak, the most ludicrous scene played out in this famous testing institution.
Renowned for his superpower, Yunhua Safety Base’s Base Commander was currently stooped down, slicing a small piece of rotten flesh from a zombie corpse.
The zombie child, without hesitation, tore a piece of rotten flesh from its own face and threw it in front of the Base Commander.
Bloodthirsty eyes filled with excitement.
The Base Commander nonchalantly picked it up, then walked towards the room.
The zombie child was about to follow the Base Commander in, but was halted at the door.
"Family members wait!"
The Base Commander pointed to a sign at the entrance, the seriousness in his demeanor.
The zombie child’s face showed a moment of confusion, glanced at the Base Commander’s finger, swallowed a mouthful.
The tantalizing scent of the Base Commander’s blood made it intensely crave, yet it resisted with its faint consciousness.
It wanted to know more than anything, whether it was truly its father’s child.
With a low roar, the zombie child suppressed the bloodthirsty urge in its mind, curled up at the door waiting, eyes fixed intently on the door, like a small statue.
Even when flesh decays, there’s still DNA; the Base Commander placed the two pieces of rotten flesh into another machine.
Leng Yebai would never have imagined that his DNA test report and a zombie’s DNA test report were born in the same room.
The zombie child outside waited, as did Yunhua Base’s Base Commander.
They were both waiting for the test result.
With a slight click, the machine holding the hair of the Base Commander and Leng Yebai halted.
Unawares, three hours had passed.
The Base Commander took a deep breath, about to step forward, yet paused.
After thinking for a moment, the Base Commander grabbed a white lab coat draped nearby, carefully wearing it.
As if by doing so, the test result might turn out to be what he hoped for!
As his fingers activated the machine, the Base Commander’s fingers trembled slightly.
Twenty-six years, twenty-six years missed.
What should’ve been an enviable, happy family of three, now only he was waiting, for a result, to tell those below about the result.
