"Did Mr. Loo write to propose a match for Wu Lang?" Hearing Lian Manman’s words, Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang were momentarily stunned before reacting.
"Yes." Lian Manman nodded in confirmation.
"Quick, quickly read out Mr. Loo’s letter." Lian Shouxin promptly urged.
Wu Lang was hesitant to read the letter, so Lian Manman handed it to Xiao Qi, who was eager to try.
Xiao Qi took the letter without decline, and read it aloud from start to finish. By the time Xiao Qi put down the letter, both Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang were already beaming with joy.
"Truly destined by heaven, what a heavenly coincidence!" Lady Zhang happily exclaimed with a prayer.
"Mr. Loo’s letter arrived at just the right time." Lian Shouxin nodded repeatedly. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Lady Zhang and Lian Shouxin said this because Mr. Loo proposed a match for Wu Lang with the eldest daughter of Qin Tongpan, Qin Ruojian. Mr. Loo’s letter mentioned that Wu Lang and Qin Ruojian were well-matched in age and appearance, suitable for a good pairing.
In the letter, Mr. Loo also thoroughly detailed the Qin family’s background and his deep connection with Qin Tongpan. Qin Tongpan and Mr. Loo were Imperial Scholars from the same cohort and had served together in the capital, fostering a deep friendship. Both families were once very close, so he was quite familiar with the Qin family.
The Qin family is a major family in Hejian Prefecture, traditionally nurturing both farming and scholarly pursuits, with each generation producing accomplished individuals. Although their official positions weren’t highly ranked, their reputation was excellent. Qin Tongpan himself, apart from serving in the capital, took on several external positions as an academic official, fostering talents far and wide despite the modest rank.
Mr. Loo highly praised Qin Tongpan’s character and the Qin family’s ethos in his letter.
As for why Mr. Loo suddenly decided to act as a mediator, the letter also touched on that. It was revealed that Qin Tongpan communicated with Mr. Loo, mentioning Wu Lang, and expressed a favorable opinion of him. Mr. Loo thus thought, his old friend had a daughter ready for marriage, and his proud disciple Wu Lang was also seeking a good match. Additionally, Lian Shouxin had previously mentioned to him that if there was a suitable girl, Wu Lang’s marriage could be his responsibility.
Mr. Loo did not presumptuously decide, but rather sent this letter expressing his willingness to act as the matchmaker. Furthermore, Mr. Loo noted in the letter that besides this one, he had also written to Qin Tongpan concerning the same matter.
Mr. Loo’s letter was a delightful addition at this moment, enhancing an already favored match. With Mr. Loo’s endorsement and guarantee, the family was naturally even more pleased.
Presumably, upon receiving the letter, the Qin family felt similarly. Lian Manman thought that perhaps Qin Tongpan, in communicating with Mr. Loo, also had intentions. Mr. Loo understood this sentiment through the subtleties and revealed it in his letter.
"What are we waiting for, let’s go now with the letter." Lian Shouxin said to Lady Zhang. The couple was more eager than Wu Lang for a daughter-in-law, driven by the urgency to have grandchildren.
Lady Zhang had no objections but didn’t act immediately; instead, she looked at Wu Lang and Lian Manman. Major family decisions involved Wu Lang and Lian Manman, a long-established family habit.
Wu Lang remained silent.
"I think it’s a good idea." After some thought, Lian Manman said. Initially, Lady Zhang planned to go the next day, but receiving Mr. Loo’s letter made going now more appropriate.
In matters of marriage, if the groom’s side is proactive, enthusiastic, and warm, it won’t be looked down upon. On the contrary, it will showcase sincerity. The saying "A daughter is married upward, a son is married downward" speaks not only to the status of both families but also to their attitudes. The bride’s family can be reserved, but if the groom’s family is reserved, it’s less favorable.
Going to Madam Qin immediately after receiving Mr. Loo’s letter to discuss the marriage shows respect for Mr. Loo’s opinion and satisfaction with the match.
The family quickly consulted, changed clothes, and took a carriage to the Qin residence.
Upon arriving at the Qin residence, Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang were welcomed into the study by Qin Tongpan, while Lian Manman and Lady Zhang alighted at the Second Gate, received by Madam Qin and her daughter into the inner room.
Once the tea and refreshments were served, after exchanging some pleasantries, Lian Manman signaled to Qin Ruojian.
"Ruojuan, is the cloak you were stitching last time finished?" Lian Manman smiled and asked Qin Ruojian.
"You came at just the right time; I just finished it and wanted to show you." Qin Ruojian said as she stood up.
