Reborn as a Landlord
Chapter 1854 - 945: More Good News (Part 2)
"I think so too," Lady Zhang said, smiling. Lian Shouxin’s words resonated with her deeply. She also wanted to return as soon as possible. Firstly, she was eager to see her niece Zhang Caiyun and the newborn child, and secondly, she wanted to meet with her family.
With Wu Lang engaged and Lian Manman’s marriage arrangements settled, she was particularly eager to personally share these matters with her family.
Lian Manman and Wu Lang had no objections to the plan that Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang discussed. Without delay, the family began preparing, planning to return to Thirty Mile Camp the following day.
Wu Lang personally went to the Shen Mansion to fetch Xiao Qi and took the opportunity to request a leave of absence for him.
"...also inform Third Master Shen," Lian Shouxin instructed Wu Lang, "even though we won’t be staying long this time."
Wu Lang naturally nodded.
A few days ago, Shen Liu had already set off for the Capital City. Because he wished to return for Wu Lang’s wedding, Shen Liu went to the Capital City earlier this year. Of course, that was only one reason. No one dared to say Shen Liu’s actions were unrelated to securing a marriage agreement with Lian Manman sooner.
As the head of affairs for the Shen Family, Shen Liu was entirely capable of making his own marriage decisions. However, it was indeed a significant matter, and he needed to discuss it personally with another influential figure in the Shen Family — Shen Jin. This was entirely reasonable.
To return earlier, Shen Liu planned to shorten his journey this time, reducing the vehicles for his entourage.
Before leaving, Shen Liu found an opportunity to see Lian Manman. Though they didn’t speak much, their feelings were conveyed. Lian Manman understood that Shen Liu would strive for their marriage, and also for her. She appreciated his intentions. As for whether it would succeed, she wasn’t overly concerned.
Shen Liu’s concern was enough proof of his care and love for her. With Shen Liu’s attention and care, what more could she wish for? Besides, she wasn’t a delicate flower in a greenhouse, unable to withstand any adversity. If it’s worth it, there’s nothing she can’t handle.
Moreover, she didn’t anticipate any future challenges. She believed Shen Liu would manage everything well. Shen Liu simply wanted to provide her with something better.
This, of course, was also well-received.
In the evening, Wu Lang returned with Xiao Qi. The family dined together, discussed plans, tidied up a bit, and then retired to their rooms for sleep.
Early the next morning, the family prepared the carriages and set off back to Thirty Mile Camp.
Lian Manman continued to share a carriage with Lady Zhang. On the way, Lady Zhang was in high spirits, continuously chatting with Lian Manman. Lian Manman knew that besides the joy of Zhang Caiyun’s good news and seeing her family, much of Lady Zhang’s excitement was due to Thirty Mile Camp.
Despite a comfortable life in the county and Prefecture City, for Lady Zhang, Thirty Mile Camp was her true home. In Thirty Mile Camp, Lady Zhang felt most at ease and relaxed. In this regard, Lian Shouxin felt the same as Lady Zhang.
The journey was smooth. After resting overnight in Jinyang County Town, the family reached Qingyang Town by the next morning.
They dispatched the other carriages home first, and Lian Shouxin along with Wu Lang, Xiao Qi, Lady Zhang, and Lian Manman proceeded directly to the Lu Family’s entrance.
The Lu Family had already received the news and was waiting at the door. Among the welcoming crowd were Lu Family members, Zhang Qingshan, Zhang Qingnian, Wu Yugui, Wu Jiaxing, Lady Wu Wang, Lian Zhizhi, and others.
Lian Manman immediately noticed Dabao was not present, understanding that the cold must have kept Lian Zhizhi from bringing him out. Then she spotted Lu Bingwu. Lu Bingwu’s smile was wider than the others, looking rather silly. The young man, having just become a father, was joyfully overwhelmed.
The Lian family alighted from the carriage, and upon family reunion, warmth overflowed as they exchanged pleasantries with smiles, accompanying their entrance into the Lu Family’s courtyard.
The Lu Family also had a large courtyard with five rooms, and three Western and Eastern wing rooms each in the front yard. After marrying Lu Bingwu, Zhang Caiyun resided in the West Wing Room. However, upon entering the courtyard, the family went to the Upper Room first instead of the West Wing Room.
Once inside, Lady Li and Lady Zhang Wang came out from the West Wing Room holding Dabao. Although Lady Zhang and Lian Manman were eager to see Zhang Caiyun, they followed everyone to the Upper Room first.
In the Upper Room, they exchanged customary greetings and took their seats. Then, followers from the Lian Family presented the nourishing gifts prepared for Zhang Caiyun.
For Zhang Caiyun’s firstborn, Lian Manman and Lady Zhang had prepared an understandably lavish gift.
The gifts included bolts of silk, two rolls of fine cotton cloth, two hundred eggs, two baskets of brown sugar, two baskets of noodles, along with a pair of pig legs, a pair of big fish, and a live pair of chicken, duck, and goose each.
In addition, the family prepared a longevity lock, bracelets for the hands and feet for Zhang Caiyun’s newborn son, all encased in bright red boxes.
Old Master Lu and Old Madam Lu continually insisted that the gifts were too generous, and after some courteous refusals, they finally accepted the gifts at everyone’s persuasion. After some conversation, Lady Zhang proposed visiting Zhang Caiyun in the West Wing Room. Accordingly, Lian Shouxin, Wu Lang, and Xiao Qi remained in the Upper Room talking, while Lian Manman accompanied by Lady Zhang, Lady Li, Lady Zhang Wang, Lady Wu Wang, and Lian Zhizhi holding Dabao, along with Old Madam Lu and the Lu Family’s Eldest Daughter-in-law, proceeded to the West Wing Room.
Because the West Wing Room was the birthing and recuperation room for Zhang Caiyun, the doors and windows were meticulously sealed, with an extra layer of paper over the usual, and the room where Zhang Caiyun rested had additional wind-blocking curtains over the windows.
Lian Manman entered the outer room, greeted by a wave of warmth.
