Reborn as the Dragon King's Son-In-Law
Chapter 49: Illusion
"Brother Seventh! Just do it and attack me! I won’t let this man escape from my grasp!"
A hint of doubt appeared on the face of the man nicknamed Seventh. Sacrificing their fellow comrades to kill enemies who were much stronger than they were was a common practice for the three men’s organization. After all, the man they were facing now had a high status among the nobles in the empire.
Most of the assassins had tried several times to kill the future son-in-law of the Dragon King of the Kingdom of Dragonia. Neither the Dragonia Kingdom nor the imperial side had a harmonious relationship at all. On the contrary, both sides had several times kept their conflicts hidden while dealing with each other.
"But... I can’t..."
"Just hurry up and do it! Brother Seventh, don’t let Brother Eighth’s sacrifice be in vain! We must remember that our true goal is to lure the Dragon Queen out of her nest!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
There was nothing Seventh could do in the current situation. The task given by the empire was much more important than letting an influential man from the Dragonia Kingdom escape. Therefore, the man nicknamed Seventh, without hesitation, immediately launched his attack at the man nicknamed Eighth and me.
The two legs of the man nicknamed Seventh knelt after releasing a large number of sharp objects at one of his comrades, nicknamed Eighth, whom he had long trusted. For some reason, a crying sound could be heard coming from the mouth of the man nicknamed Seventh. Despite this, the man nicknamed Ninth did not reveal any expression on his face and only focused on reflecting on the events that had previously occurred.
"There is nothing for us to be sad about. Brother Eighth sacrificed himself just to kill an individual who could become a threat to the empire at any time."
"You’re right. Thank you, Brother Ninth..."
A cold and piercing gust of wind swept across the area and blew away various trees. The figure of a black-haired man was seen stepping across the sky under the full moon with the power of darkness. For some reason, expressions of disbelief appeared on Seventh’s and Ninth’s faces.
Both Seventh’s and Ninth’s gazes returned to the place where Eighth and I had supposedly been killed. The body of the man they had previously killed began to change and gave way to the figure of Eighth. Suddenly, a look of endless guilt swept across Seventh’s face.
The shadow technique I was using right now was no different from an illusionary deception technique that could trap anyone. From the start, the death of the two men’s comrade had been completely within my plans. The moment the overwhelming attack from Seventh struck and began to reach the place where I was, I had already prepared a move that could help me instantly escape from the place where I had been standing before.
A slight memory of where I had previously practiced the shadow technique came flooding back into my mind. By using the shadow technique, I could create an illusion at any time that could make anyone mistake their comrade for me. Therefore, I was able to easily trap the vision of the two men with just a low-level deception technique.
An endless feeling of happiness swept through my heart. This was what I had wanted to do as soon as I finished my training with Elize. However, the attitude that Athena and Elize showed towards me was no different from that of someone who viewed me as an object they could keep at any time.
There was nothing I could do freely after being with Elize and Athena during the day. But night was a good time for someone like me to roam freely outside the kingdom. That was also the reason why I was able to perform heroic actions that could help the Dragonia Kingdom avoid problems that would occur in the future.
"A shadow technique? No... It’s an illusion! Did he plan this from the start just to use Brother Eighth as a sacrifice to save himself? How could we have been fooled like this!"
The words that came out of the mouth of the man nicknamed Ninth were not a big deal to me at all. There was nothing surprising to me about seeing others shocked after witnessing my prowess in creating illusion techniques. However, this was the least commonly used method by assassins when trapping their enemies and then killing them with illusion techniques.
This was the first time the two men had witnessed someone so boldly using an illusion technique to trap their comrade. They had even managed to get caught in a trap set by their enemy. For some reason, the sadness that had previously plagued Seventh’s heart began to change and escalate into feelings of intense anger.
The form of Seventh, who had previously been in human form, began to change into the form of an extraordinarily large dragon. Even the man nicknamed Ninth did the same thing as his comrade. Even though their forms had now completely transformed into the true forms of the Dragon race, I would not be afraid of facing two dragons at the Dragon King stage.
Loud sounds began to surround the entire area, which had turned into an empty plain. My battle with those two men had created destruction that lower beings could not imagine. Even so, it still could not completely injure me, even if the two men tried their best to display their strength.
A wall of ice began to form on one of my palms. It was absolutely impossible for the two dragons to feel fear when faced with my power, which was none other than the Ice Element. From Seventh’s and Ninth’s perspectives, facing a human with the Ice Element was the easiest thing they could do.
"Ice Element? Just a weak element! There’s no way it can defeat us, the species of the Dragon race!"
An audible snort came out of my mouth. Every rant from Seventh and Ninth slightly increased the disgust within me towards the two dragons. Therefore, without thinking, I immediately showed all my strength while facing the two dragons.
