Chapter 17: 17- Let’s Go Wife!

Throughout the dinner, Ruby kept staring at Sienna, and her gaze was so intense that Sienna felt like it could burn holes through her face.

She was aware of why her little sister was being bitter. In Ruby’s last life, her husband didn’t seem to have any interest in her. And this time?

This time, Tom wasn’t giving her the same attention as he used to give her when she was his mistress.

Sienna blinked when Hunter started placing a small piece of roasted turkey on her plate.

"Thank you," She murmured with a faint smile.

"Sienna," Ruby’s voice was edged with frost that was felt by everyone around the table, "The salad you cut..." She picked up a piece of cabbage, "This is so thick... no one can chew it."

"You made salad?" Before she could respond, she heard Hunter’s voice beside her. Hunter picked up the salad bowl and transferred a good amount onto his plate.

He dug the fork and took the first bite, "Awesome..." He said while chewing the vegetables, "I’ll have another serving..."

Sienna wanted to giggle. He was talking to her as if they were alone.

Ruby’s face turned crimson with insult, "The dressing has so much vinegar!" She pushed the plate, "I can’t eat it, Papa."

"Really?" Hunter, at last, eyed Ruby, "Because if no one is eating it, I’m taking it home."

Sienna wanted to roll her eyes. This was getting too much.

She needed to remind him that he wasn’t paid for overacting. Hunter turned to look at her, "Seriously. You should try it, darling. It’s too good."

Sienna shook her head and bent a little towards her husband, "I don’t know how people can eat so much cabbage, broccoli, or lettuce in one go..."

Hunter’s fork stopped near his mouth as he frowned, "Why?"

"So many vegetables..." Her voice dropped to a whisper, "Don’t these veggies give gas? I’ll be highly embarrassed, farting around a bunch of people..."

Hunter might not be expecting that. Because his face snapped up, and then he suddenly leaned into her hair. Everyone sitting there could see his body shaking.

Ruby narrowed her eyes when she realized that Hunter was laughing. The man who didn’t know how to even smile was laughing with his face hidden in her sister’s hair.

Sienna felt Hunter’s lips touching the side of her neck before he straightened. To the family, it looked like the couple just shared a secret joke.

However, Sienna was sitting there in disbelief. How could she share a fart joke with anyone other than Lina? Heat crept up to her ears.

She wanted to bury her face in her plate. She chewed her lower lip and raised her eyes, only to find Tom looking at her.

Her heart missed a beat as the shy smile on her face vanished. She had totally forgotten about the monster sitting before her.

Don’t worry. Once I’m done with my father, you’re next, Tom.

"So... how did you manage to get here, sweetheart?" Tom asked Sienna with a sarcastic grin when they were all having green tea after dinner.

Sienna wanted to remind him that she was not his sweetheart. Her mother had taken Hunter outside to show him the yard, saying she needed some advice on ventilation.

Surprisingly, Sienna was feeling alone in his absence, but then she needed to stay strong.

"On a car. Of course!" She raised her shoulder while sipping her tea.

"Does Hunter even own a car?" Ruby asked with a faint edge and then turned to her husband, "This necklace..." She casually touched the diamond necklace she was wearing, "This jewellery I’m wearing... We can easily buy a decent car by selling it."

Sienna bit back a laugh. She got up to carry her cup to the kitchen island and then leaned against it. She knew that necklace all too well and remembered exactly what she’d gone through because of it in her previous life when she got home.

Her not-so-innocent sister didn’t know anything about Tom yet.

"Hunter might not own a car but ..." She gave the couple a sweet smile as she turned to face them, "He won’t let me put my feet on the ground," She made a pout as if she was a princess.

Tom’s face had gone serious, and now he was looking behind her. With a frown, Sienna whirled around and found Hunter standing in the doorway.

Did he hear the conversation?

"If he doesn’t own a car," Ruby made a pout, mimicking Sienna, "Then I’m sorry, he doesn’t have any choice, Sia."

Before Sienna could shoot back a befitting response, two arms snaked around her thighs and waist. And then, without warning, she was lifted off the ground, "She is right," Hunter looked into her eyes, pulling her into his chest, "I won’t let her set her feet on the ground," He said in a hoarse whisper.

"Urgh!" Ruby rolled her eyes in irritation and walked out. She wanted to stay in the kitchen for a few minutes.

"So, Sienna," Tom called her name after Hunter settled her on the couch, "How will you manage your dad’s falling business?"

Sienna leaned into Hunter’s warm body. There was uneasiness on her father’s face.

"I’ll learn, Papa," She kept her focus on her father instead of Tom, "The company is drowning anyway... I’ll see how I can save a sinking ship," She said, lifting her chin.

Hunter squeezed her hand, maybe telling her silently that he liked her answer.

George Mason cleared his throat, "A sinking ship doesn’t need an amateur captain, Sienna. You’ll need an expert person. And right now, your best choice is Tom."

"No!" Ruby yelled, panic edging her voice, "Tom has gotten his own office to look after."

Sienna rolled her lips between her teeth. Ruby was scared because she thought Tom might get closer to Sienna.

Though she was least interested in her brother-in-law.

"Ruby," Tom said, clearly irritated, "I can decide for myself."

Was there a warning hidden in his tone? Sienna knew Tom too well.

Ruby forced a bright smile on her face, "Hey, husband. I was just reminding her that you’ve got your own business to run."

"Ruby!" Tom’s tone turned dangerous. He stayed quiet after that.

"What do you say?" Hunter whispered, holding Sienna’s hand, "Should we leave?"

Ruby must have heard him because her face whipped around in their direction, "Of course, you should," She retorted, "We’re least interested in your presence."

In this life, for the first time, Hunter looked at Ruby. His face looked more expressionless in those dark shades, "Umm, Ms. Ruby. I don’t recall including you in adult decisions."

Sienna held her breath, waiting for some reaction. No one dared to speak.

Maybe because no one was expecting Hunter to respond so coldly. He got up and extended his hand towards Sienna, "Let’s go, wife," He suggested with a smirk.
