Reborn In The 90's: Saving My Siblings With A Fishing System
Chapter 267: Compensation
"My sister’s dowry was stolen; of course, this matter needs to be reported to the police!" Han Ruochen showed a tough attitude from the start, as she did not want the Qiao family to think that they were easy to bully. She knew that the Qiao family had been bullying her sister for so long because she had a good temper. But she did not. If Old Madam Qiao thought that she could bully her just like how she did with her sister, then she was wrong! There was no way she would let this old woman dance on top of her head.
"What do you mean the dowry was stolen?" Old Madam Qiao was speechless. She blinked her eyes rapidly as she looked at the woman in front of her. This woman must be joking. How could such a matter be reported to the police? She turned to look at Han Xuehan, realising that Han Ruochen was not as easy to coax as her. She smiled at the woman flatteringly, and for the first time in her life, she used a rather sweet tone with Han Xuehan. "Xuehan, Xuehan, tell your sister the truth. Tell her that you gave those things to your sister-in-law willingly."
Now she could only rely on Han Xuehan. She hoped that the woman would take the blame on her head so that she wouldn’t be dragged into a mess by her. If Han Xuehan agreed that she was the one who gave the dowry away, then even if Han Ruochen wanted to make a fuss, there was nothing that she could do about it. However, she underestimated Han Xuehan way too much.
In the past, she would have stepped back, but not anymore. She blinked her eyes naively as if she did not understand what was going on. She frowned and said, "When did I give my dowry to my sister-in-law? It was your decision, Mother, since the beginning. When my sister-in-law got married, you were worried that she would be looked down on, so you took my dowry after making a fuss and sent it away."
"You—"
Old Madam Qiao did not expect Han Xuehan to be this ruthless; she did not show even an ounce of familial affection and even sent her and her son down to the guillotine. Now what was she supposed to do?
"Good! Very good!" When Han Yichen heard that this good family had even stolen away the little dowry that he arranged for his daughter, he was so angry that he wished he could beat someone up. His eyes flashed with murderous intent, and he slammed his hand on the stone table. "So this is how my daughter has been living in this family? If you do not have the resources, then why did you marry your daughter off? You should have just kept her here and let her become an old spinster!"
"You—you..." Old Madam Qiao was furious, but she did not know where to begin.
"Dad, why are you wasting your time with her?" Han Ruochen sneered coldly when she saw that the old woman was still bent on fighting. "Just call the police." Han Ruochen did not believe that the police officers would ignore such a big matter, even if her sister was married into the Qiao family. In the end, she was not a slave, nor did she marry into the Qiao family as an orphan. Her husband’s family swallowed her dowry. As long as the case was submitted to the police, it would not take long for them to find the ins and outs of the matter.
"No!"
Old Madam Qiao was stunned when she saw that Han Ruochen was still stubbornly insisting on sending them all to the police station. Was this woman out of her mind? How could she drag their family to the police station for something so small? What was more, Old Madam Qiao did not want the police to be involved in this matter. What if they found out about their connection to the human traffickers? What would they do then? The dowry case was simple, but the human trafficking case was not! It could get them executed.
She could not allow such a thing to happen, could she?
Han Ruochen knew why the woman was refusing to let them call the police, but she didn’t insist either. Han Ruochen knew one thing very well. These people were without a moral bottom line. If she were to drag this matter, then she was afraid that she would end up getting retaliated against. So, Han Ruochen pulled on a sneering face and said, "Then what do you want to do? I am telling you the truth right here and now; don’t even think about escaping. You have to give us an explanation no matter what."
Old Madam Qiao wanted to throw up a mouthful of blood. This woman was really too much. She knew that the situation in their family was not good, and yet she was actually asking for an explanation from them? She had to be kidding her. However, no matter what Old Madam Qiao thought, there was nothing she could do about the current situation. She could only grit her teeth and say, "How about this? I will ask my daughter to arrange the dowry to be sent back." This was all she could think of to stabilise the situation for now.
"Bah! Who wants to take back the dowry that your daughter has used and slept on? Do we look like beggars to you?" Han Ruochen sneered coldly. It seemed like just because she showed a little good attitude, this woman thought that they could be bullied at will, did she? She must be dreaming if she thought that their family was going to let them off so easily.
"Then what do you want?" When Old Madam Qiao saw that the girl was not as easy to talk to as she thought, she could only lower her stance and ask for her opinion.
"One thousand yuan!"
