Reborn with a Space: Hoarding Food and Raising My Kid
Chapter 59 - 48: Fierce Battle with the Zombie Bull
Flora Bloom saw that everyone in the group was dressed in military combat attire. Combined with the resolute expressions on the two men’s faces, she had a good idea of who they were.
This group was definitely more than just ordinary soldiers. Judging by their skills and attire, they had to be special forces operatives.
She had a soft spot for soldiers, especially since her father had once been one. So, she used the last of her superpower to envelop the two men completely, trying to extinguish the flames on their legs.
Her deep blue Water Ability poured onto the burning legs of the men codenamed Raccoon and the Crown Prince, letting out a SIZZLE. The flames were finally extinguished, but her superpower was completely drained.
Neal Wallace was in a similar state, his superpower also mostly depleted. Superpower exhaustion was extremely dangerous, leaving users in a weakened state for some time. However, since Flora Bloom and her companions often drank the spiritual water from her pocket dimension, their bodies were much more resilient than average, so the feeling of weakness wasn’t as intense for them.
Just then, the people who had been behind the zombie horde drew near.
Each of them wore a combat vest. Despite having little protective gear, every person was armed with a rifle and a melee weapon.
Flora Bloom watched as these people charged into the zombies, quickly tying up the rest of the horde. Only then did she turn her gaze to the zombie bull.
Suddenly, the zombie bull spat another stream of fire from its mouth. This time, its target was the man who had been fighting it to a standstill.
"Watch out for that zombie bull! Its flames are corrosive—regular weapons can’t even scratch it."
The man suddenly leaped high, landing on the zombie bull’s back. He grabbed its two massive horns, forcing the bull to ignore the zombie horde and start roaring in panic.
"Its weak points are its eyes, the underside of its neck, and its abdomen!" Her experience from her past life’s battles told her this; she was well aware of the weaknesses of certain zombified creatures.
As she spoke, Flora Bloom took out her fruit knife and walked toward the fallen zombie corpses.
"Flora, come back! It’s too dangerous!" Jade cried out, seeing her daughter about to walk into the pile of zombies. Although the corpses were motionless, how could a simple country woman like her not be terrified by such a scene?
Flora Bloom smiled at her mother, assuring her she was fine, then waved Neal Wallace over.
"Hurry and dig out Crystal Cores to restore our superpowers. That zombie bull is no match for ordinary people."
"You think that man can’t handle it?" Neal Wallace glanced at the battle between the man and the zombie bull, his brow deeply furrowed.
"I don’t know. Besides, we don’t know these people. With our superpowers exhausted, we have no way to fight back. It’s always better to be prepared. We’re in a very vulnerable position right now."
Ethan Monroe and Mervin Warren wanted to help as well, but Flora Bloom stopped them.
"You two protect my parents and Caleb."
On one side, Flora Bloom and Neal Wallace were frantically digging out Crystal Cores. As soon as they got one, they would absorb it before continuing to dig.
Over on the other side, however, Lex Cross wasn’t having such an easy time.
On Earth, his strength was suppressed to less than a tenth of its full power to begin with. He never imagined this bull would be so immensely strong; its huge body wasn’t clumsy in the slightest, but frighteningly agile. Even with his firm hold on its back, he was almost thrown off.
He unleashed his Thunder Ability, striking the bull’s head and body, but it only managed to paralyze and slow it for a moment—two or three seconds at most—before it became active again.
The Thunder Ability was a power he had awakened only recently, which was a pleasant surprise. ’This seems to break the cosmic law that every being is fated to cultivate only a single elemental type.’
His repeated lightning strikes seemed to have only enraged the bull.
A girl’s voice from nearby reached his ears.
’Weak points are its eyes, the underside of its neck, and its abdomen? How does this girl know that?’
One hand gripping a horn, Lex Cross seemed to be superglued to the zombie bull. No matter how it thrashed, even rearing up on its hind legs, it couldn’t shake him off.
Lex Cross found an opening and plunged his combat dagger fiercely into the bull’s eye.
"SKREEE!" A piercing shriek tore through the air, causing everyone’s ears to ring and leaving them momentarily stunned.
’This is bad,’ Flora Bloom thought. She knew it was a sonic attack, similar to that of a golden cicada, designed to stun or even briefly knock its targets unconscious.
The fact that this zombie bull also knew a psychic attack truly caught her by surprise.
Seeing the man on the bull’s back become stunned, Flora Bloom didn’t hesitate. Having just absorbed three Crystal Cores, she charged toward the zombie bull.
The only reason they currently had the upper hand against the zombie horde was because this one formidable man was single-handedly keeping the zombie bull occupied. Flora Bloom had even sent Vert and her little white tiger into the battle to reap the lives of the zombies.
If he died, the rest of them would have no way to deal with the zombie bull.
Even Flora Bloom herself would have to release her "Juggernaut" and see if it could even the odds. But she realized that if such a powerful expert could survive, humanity would have one more formidable figure capable of matching the zombies in the great war to come.
Passing a stunned special forces soldier, Flora Bloom snatched the combat saber from his hand. As she neared the zombie bull, she swung the blade at its neck. Simultaneously, she pulled a handful of water from her pocket dimension and threw it at Lex Cross’s face.
The zombie bull, feeling its weak spot under attack, hastily dodged. This also allowed Lex Cross to avoid what would have been a fatal blow from the beast.
The cool splash of water snapped Lex Cross awake. Though the stun had only lasted a few seconds, it was long enough for the zombie bull to finally shake him to the ground. He was about to land in an embarrassing sprawl, but he managed to twist his body mid-air and land in a stylish half-squat next to Flora Bloom.
Flora Bloom couldn’t help but roll her eyes. ’Now is not the time to be showing off!’ she thought. Up close, his face was devastatingly handsome, but his brain seemed to be a bit slow.
But when Lex Cross saw Flora Bloom, he was suddenly taken aback.
’It’s her?’
But he had no time to think. The zombie bull, one eye stabbed, had gone berserk and was now charging straight for them. Its colossal horns were aimed right at their position; if they didn’t move, they would be skewered.
’These damned humans! They dared to hurt my eye! I’ll kill them! Kill them all!’
"Are you trying to die? Run!"
Seeing the maddened bull lower its head and charge at them horns-first, Flora Bloom shoved Lex Cross aside and dove into a roll to dodge the attack.
If that hit had connected, those massive, sky-piercing horns would have run them through. It would have been certain death.
But given who Lex Cross was, the greater the crisis, the calmer he became. A wicked glint flashed in his hawk-like black eyes as he glanced at the girl beside him. He quickly adjusted his stance and let out a sharp whistle, successfully drawing the zombie bull’s attention.
At that moment, his entire body crackled with lightning, turning him into a living conductor. It looked as if a single touch would mean instant electrocution.
Flora Bloom couldn’t see a single trace of fear or cowardice on his face. On his bewitchingly handsome face, his eyes were like those of a falcon, poised and ready to strike.
The calm hid a power that was about to explode, and standing so close, she found it hard to look away.
The zombie bull charged toward him, but he remained rooted to the spot, his eyes fixed on the approaching beast.
Flora Bloom was about to scream for him to move, but then she saw him suddenly grab both horns, vaulting himself up to sit on the bull’s back once again.
Flora Bloom almost wanted to applaud his fluid, spectacular movements. But this time, the zombie bull seemed to have learned his tricks. Mimicking the electricity arcing off his body, the bull’s own body erupted in flames.
Lex Cross’s Power of thunder and lightning already had trouble penetrating the zombie bull’s thick hide, dealing limited damage. And while lightning had explosive offensive power, his defensive power was lacking against the flames covering the bull’s body.
This was especially true as he straddled the bull’s back; the area between his legs was incredibly vulnerable. Not even he dared to take that risk.
So he quickly leaped off the bull’s back.
Flora Bloom watched the zombie bull, now wreathed in flames. Its blood-red eyes showed it had lost all reason and entered a berserk state. It would attack any person on sight.
"This zombie bull’s Flame Superpower Level is higher than ours. The only things that can counter it are the Water Element or the even stronger Ice Element."
As she spoke, Flora Bloom glanced at Tianna Bloom and her family, still cowering in a corner. She shook her head. ’It’s impossible to get help from Tianna Bloom. Besides, no matter how strong the Ice Element is, it can’t easily win when facing such a high-level opponent.’
So she said to Lex Cross, "I’m a Water Ability User, so I can counter its flames. You keep it busy, and I’ll find a way to kill it."
Lex Cross stared blankly at the delicate-looking girl before him, sizing her up with disbelief. "You? Those flames are no ordinary fire."
