Chapter 69: Chapter 58: Armored Car

Flora Bloom zoomed in on the map to a single point and handed it to Caleb Bloom, pointing to a specific spot.

"Dad, if I remember correctly, this place should be a Naval Base. They should have boats or motorboats there, right?"

Caleb Bloom’s brow twitched as he looked at the spot his daughter was pointing to.

Although it had been a long time since he’d been involved with the military, as a specially trained soldier, he had memorized the geography of various military sites.

He knew this place was a Naval Base, of course, but the question was, how did his geographically challenged daughter know?

Seeing the doubt and conflict on her father’s face, Flora Bloom said, "Dad, saving Joel is the most important thing right now. Can we put everything else aside for a bit? If we take the exit for Highway 320, bypass the main road, and take the side roads to this base, it should be much faster than staying on the expressway the whole way."

Caleb Bloom also knew they couldn’t delay. The scenes of devastation they’d seen on the drive here had already unsettled him. His son’s safety was now their greatest concern.

"I know a military access road we can take to get off. It’s a closer route to the Naval Base. But what do we do now? The road ahead is completely blocked by cars. There’s no way we can drive through."

After some discussion, the group decided to set out on foot for the Naval Base, find a boat there, and travel by sea to Morhaven to find Joel Bloom.

Driving to the Naval Base from here would take the better part of a day, assuming no accidents. However, the sea journey to Morhaven to find Joel Bloom would depend entirely on maritime conditions. There was no time to waste.

Flora Bloom took several backpacks from her space and handed them out. Each backpack was filled with a few bottles of water and some packs of compressed biscuits. Fearing that young Caleb couldn’t carry much, she only put one bottle of water, a pack of sandwich cookies, and some scattered, lightweight candies and chocolates in his children’s backpack.

"Let’s get out. We’ll go on foot."

The group got out of the vehicle, and Flora Bloom instantly stored it in her space. Even though everyone present knew about Flora Bloom’s space, seeing such a large military truck disappear before their very eyes was still a bit shocking.

Each person in Flora Bloom’s group held a weapon—some had axes, others had knives. Flora Bloom and her father, Caleb Bloom, took point. Caleb and his mother, Jade, were in the middle, with Ethan Monroe on the flank and Neal Wallace bringing up the rear.

The group moved cautiously toward the traffic jam ahead. This formation not only protected their weakest members, Jade and Caleb, but also made it easier for everyone to retreat in an orderly fashion if they encountered danger.

Seeing the chaotic mess of vehicles ahead, Flora Bloom feared that unexpected dangers might be lurking in the shadows. She decided to release Vert and the Golden Cicada to act as aerial lookouts.

The moment her consciousness entered her space, she found the two little guys had turned into little gluttons. Each was clutching a tomato and munching away, their mouthparts covered in red tomato juice.

"Time to get to work."

Seeing that they were almost done eating, Flora Bloom released the two of them. Evolved creatures with flight capabilities, like Vert and the Golden Cicada, had an aerial advantage. They could survey the entire scene from above and help the group avoid hidden dangers as much as possible.

They moved past some cars, discovering that their owners were long gone. Although there were suspicious bloodstains on the ground, they looked like they had dried some time ago and weren’t recent.

Their pace was slow; they only covered six or seven hundred meters in half an hour. The main reason was that their path was blocked by haphazardly parked vehicles, preventing easy passage.

Along the way, Flora Bloom scavenged some car air fresheners from the vehicles. She also found water and drinks in the trunks, and clothes and shoes in some cars, all of which she swept into her space.

Even though she had a huge pile of brand-new clothes and shoes in her space, in the apocalypse, even these used clothes were a luxury many people couldn’t afford.

Ordinary people without superpowers didn’t dare go into cities to gather supplies, so it was normal for them to go months without a change of clothes.

After walking for so long without encountering any danger, the group began to relax. Caleb Bloom, Ethan Monroe, and Neal Wallace started to drift toward the piles of cars on the sides, looking for useful supplies for their team.

"Flora, come quick! There’s a transport truck over here."

Caleb Bloom’s voice came from not far away. Flora, however, remained cautious as she led her mother and Caleb over.

It was indeed a large transport truck.

Caleb Bloom and Neal Wallace climbed onto the chassis and opened the container on the back of the truck. Inside, to their surprise, were boxes and boxes of peaches.

"How are there still peaches this time of year?"

Flora Bloom’s words earned her a light tap on the head from Jade.

"You really don’t know a thing about agriculture, do you, girl? Most peaches ripen in June and August. But there are late-ripening varieties in October. They’re not common, but they exist."

Flora Bloom nodded, only half-understanding. She remembered that Vert and the Golden Cicada usually ate plants and insects, but she’d just seen them eating the tomatoes she had harvested. ’I wonder if they’ll eat these peaches,’ she thought.

Thinking of Monkey One, Monkey Two, and Monkey Three in her space, she realized that besides being a treat for her family and friends, these peaches would be perfect for them.

So with a wave of her hand, she moved all the peaches from the container into her space. She then immediately opened a box and presented it to the three monkeys.

At that moment, Monkey One, though still small and not an evolved creature, was acting like a clever little devil. It was sitting on Monkey Two’s neck, riding it around and making Monkey Two get peaches for her to eat. The sight was absolutely adorable.

Seeing the three monkeys scratching their heads and playing together as they ate the peaches, Flora Bloom continued searching for supplies with the others, her mood greatly improved.

Suddenly, the sharp-eared Flora Bloom heard a sound she knew very well.

Following the source of the sound, she soon found a smaller transport truck. On the back were several cages containing pigs.

Three large, fat pigs were lying down, sleeping, completely unaware of her arrival.

Flora Bloom thought of the livestock pen in the farmhouse courtyard within her space. Excited, she immediately went forward to check the health of the three pigs.

There were three fat pigs: two sows and one boar. The boar had some black and gray markings on its body and was currently lying in its cage, panting. One of the sows was huge, with prominent rows of teats underneath, but its belly was flat.

It looked like a sow that had recently given birth. It was a pity the piglets were gone; otherwise, she could have soon achieved the blissful state of pork self-sufficiency in her space.

After checking the three pigs over and confirming they were healthy and free of any viral infection, Flora Bloom moved them into the livestock pen in the farmhouse courtyard of her space. Then she placed some harvested cabbage and green beans from the courtyard into their food trough.

Her space contained the harvest from several acres of vegetables and grains, so feeding these three pigs was not a problem at all.

Although there were only three pigs for now, Flora Bloom believed that as long as they lived healthily in her space, there would be many more pigs soon.

"Mr. Boar, oh, Mr. Boar, I’ve given you two beautiful pig-wives. You’d better work hard from now on and give me lots of piglets. Your master’s future meat supply is all depending on you!"

After she had collected the three pigs, Caleb Bloom discovered something else nearby and called out loudly for her to come over.

Flora Bloom went over to look and saw it was an armored car. Seeing everyone, including her own parents, staring intently at the truck, Flora Bloom couldn’t help but slap her forehead, speechless.

"Trust me, in the future, this money will only be good for starting fires."
