Record of a Demon's Cultivation
Chapter 1291: Lending a Hand
Translator: CinderTL
A cold glint, swift as lightning, shot straight for the giant eagle’s sharp eyes.
"Arooo!"
The giant eagle opened its beak, shaped like a sword, and let out a piercing shriek that shook the heavens.
Its body suddenly soared dozens of meters higher, and its iron-hook claws lunged at the cold light.
Clang!
The cold glint struck the claws with a resounding clang.
The claws remained unscathed, but the cold light was knocked away.
Just then, the sky above suddenly darkened with ominous clouds. Silver bolts of lightning, like Flood Dragons emerging from the sea, tore through the clouds and struck the giant eagle.
The giant eagle’s eyes flashed with ferocity as it beat its massive wings.
Instantly, a colossal tornado materialized out of thin air.
Towering tens of miles high, the tornado roared with winds like a thousand armies charging and the wails of countless Fierce Ghosts.
The tornado shot skyward, sweeping toward the sea of clouds above. Silver Flood Dragons were shredded in its path, and even the dark clouds were torn to shreds.
While the giant eagle was occupied with the falling lightning, a cold glint silently approached, aiming for the opening at the base of its tail.
"Arooo!"
As a flash of blood erupted and several gray feathers drifted down, the giant eagle let out another piercing shriek. But this time, its cry lacked the ferocious fury of before, instead carrying a mournful, desperate note.
The giant eagle glared hatefully at the figure standing atop the distant mountain peak, then flapped its wings and swiftly vanished into the horizon.
Seeing the giant eagle retreat, Hong Yi breathed a sigh of relief. Her eyes turned toward the figure on the distant peak—Gou Jun—and she couldn’t help but marvel at his methods.
From the moment the cold light flashed to the giant eagle’s retreat, only a breath or two had passed. In such a short time, he had managed to severely wound and drive off a sixth-tier avian demonic beast at its peak. Such skill was truly astonishing.
However, what truly shocked her wasn’t the extent of his power, but his meticulous planning and ruthless approach.
Gou Jun had first used the short blade, transformed into a streak of cold light, to attack the giant eagle’s eyes, leading it to believe that he would focus on its vulnerable eyes.
Then, he unleashed a thunder magic display of great fanfare. While powerful, the thunder magic was merely a distraction.
Finally, under the cover of thunder magic and a tornado, the short blade stealthily approached the giant eagle from behind, aiming for its cloaca.
This series of calculations was meticulously interconnected. While it might have been ineffective against a suspicious human cultivator, it was more than sufficient to deal with a demon beast lacking intelligence.
Hong Yi moved swiftly, landing on the mountain peak where Song Wen stood.
"Fellow Daoist Gou Jun, I can’t express my gratitude adequately. In the future, if you ever need my help, please don’t hesitate to ask. Anything within my power, I will never refuse," Hong Yi said, clasping her hands in a gesture of respect.
"Fellow Daoist, you’re being too kind. With your strength, you would have eventually dealt with that Flat-Feathered Beast even without my intervention. I merely added a finishing touch, offering a small contribution," Song Wen replied.
Hong Yi paused, then offered a faint smile.
"Your high regard leaves me feeling rather embarrassed. To be honest, I was already at the end of my rope. Had you not intervened in time, I would have been in dire straits."
"Fellow Daoist Hong Yi, are you preparing to leave the Turbid Spirit Realm?" Song Wen changed the subject.
Hong Yi nodded. "My spiritual power is nearly exhausted, and I still have internal injuries. I do intend to leave."
Song Wen said, "May I accompany you, fellow daoist?"
"I stole several Spirit Herbs that the Flat-Feathered Beasts had guarded for years. They won’t let this go easily. Having you as company means I don’t have to worry about them returning. I’d be delighted to have you," Hong Yi replied.
With that, the two of them took flight, continuing toward the exit.
After more than two hours, with only tens of thousands of miles remaining to the exit, Song Wen suddenly stopped.
"Fellow Daoist Hong Yi, I need your help with something."
"Speak freely, fellow daoist," Hong Yi said.
Song Wen explained, "A few days ago, I had a minor dispute with some fellow daoists from the Myriad Swords Pavilion. I managed to escape, but they vowed to ambush me at the exit. Could you go ahead and check if anyone from the Myriad Swords Pavilion is waiting there?"
"May I ask who you clashed with? I’m quite friendly with Fellow Daoist Heng Ziping of the Myriad Swords Pavilion. Perhaps I could mediate and resolve your conflict," Hong Yi offered.
Song Wen said, "I thank you for your kindness, fellow daoist. However, I don’t know the names of those people."
Hong Yi replied, "If that’s the case, I’ll go check the exit first. If there are indeed fellow daoists from the Myriad Swords Pavilion guarding it, I’ll try to persuade them on your behalf."
"I’m grateful for your help, fellow daoist," Song Wen said.
Hong Yi soared into the sky and quickly disappeared from sight.
Song Wen didn’t stay behind to wait. Instead, he followed the direction Hong Yi had taken, flying over ten thousand miles before landing in a mountain valley. He concealed his aura and hid himself in a pool of murky mud.
"Shadow Void, keep a close watch on our surroundings. Alert me immediately if you detect any movement," Song Wen instructed in his Sea of Consciousness.
"Yes, master," Shadow Void replied.
Song Wen had sent Hong Yi to check the exit because he feared Jian Xiao might be waiting there. If he went himself, it would be like walking straight into a trap.
Besides worrying about Jian Xiao blocking the exit, Song Wen was also concerned about another matter.
Bai Wei had told him that according to the Spirit Jade Palace’s rules, cultivators from affiliated families had to hand over half of any treasures they obtained in the Turbid Spirit Realm.
To avoid this, Bai Wei had instructed Song Wen to wait for her to leave the Turbid Spirit Realm together and entrust her with the treasures he found there.
But now that Song Wen had provoked Jian Xiao and "killed" Gu Huang, Jian Xiao would certainly not let him off easily.
If Jian Xiao wasn’t blocking the exit, there was a high chance he was still in the Turbid Spirit Realm. Song Wen intended to leave as quickly as possible, then part ways with the three great sects to completely shake off Jian Xiao.
However, how to claim all twenty-four drops of Pure Origin Heavenly Dew for himself and conceal the treasures he had obtained from killing Ying Deng and Leng Zhi was another thorny issue.
As Song Wen pondered these matters, Shadow Void’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Master, Hong Yi has returned."
"Is she with anyone?" Song Wen asked.
"No!" Shadow Void replied.
Hearing this, Song Wen didn’t press further.
Soon, Hong Yi’s figure swept across the sky above.
Song Wen waited a moment, and seeing no one following her, he emerged from the mud.
He was about to meet up with Hong Yi when a sudden flash of inspiration struck him, revealing a way to claim all his gains for himself.
