Chapter 481: Edge of the Mist Sea

Shooting up through the thick mist only to see an endless expanse of mist in every direction around her, Scaly could not help feeling a bit confused over what was happening. Only remembering how she had crashed into the side of a mountain because of the large toad chasing after the two of them before hitting her head hard on a rock along the way that had directly knocked her out.

How she had gone from rolling down a mountain to a vast sea of mist with no mountain in sight was a mystery she couldn’t put together, her only real clue to what had happened being the magic Verdell had used on her to make her glide seamlessly through the air even while she was knocked out unable to fly on her own. Using this unique gliding ability to avoid the toad that had been chasing after the two of them back when she was knocked out.

Speaking of the toad, it didn’t take her long to realize that the toad that had once been chasing after the two of them had already disappeared and could no longer be seen no matter what direction she looked in. Meaning that whatever Verdell had done had successfully thrown off the toad that even she had found troublesome to shake off.

However, though the toad wasn’t chasing the two of them any longer, the clear nervousness she felt from Verdell made it clear that the two of them weren’t entirely out of danger yet... 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Rumble~

And looking off into one direction where the sea of mist churned violently as something massive glided through it in their direction, Scaly understood that whatever Verdell was fearful of running into had to be the monster behind that disturbance.

But curious as she might have been to find out more about this monster still hidden beneath the mist, she knew that now wasn’t the time to let her curiosity get the better of her and place the two of them in an even more dangerous position.

Whoosh~

Not lingering around in the air just above the surface of the sea of mist for long before shooting even higher into the sky before flying in the opposite direction of the massive monster moving through the sea of mist towards the two of them. During this time, Verdell took the opportunity to inform her about what had happened while she had been knocked out.

From her being knocked out and his usage of the feather falling spell to allow the two of them to continue their escape from the toad to the time when the massive monster beneath the mist now chasing the two of them had emerged from the mist and easily swallowed this terrifying SS Rank toad monster without the other party even mounting a token of resistance against the other party, Scaly began to fully understand just how dangerous the monster chasing the two of them from below the mist was.

Even worse, as Verdell informed her about the terrifying power of the monster chasing them, it became very clear that even with her now having woken up on and taken on the responsibility of ensuring their safety, the massive monster beneath the mist was rapidly closing in on the two of them. Having seemingly increased its speed after sensing the two of them leaving the mist.

The only real escape plan being for the two of them to continue forward and hopefully leave the sea of mist before that terrifying monster had the chance to catch up with them, something that was far from simple according to Verdell, as mist seas found within dungeons where monsters of this level resided could be massive to the point where even several days of travel at their current speed would barely cover a quarter of them.

In fact, according to Verdell, there was a greater chance of them running into another similarly powerful monster during their escape than the two of them successfully leaving the sea of mist.

As for turning around and escaping in the direction they had come from? That was impossible with the monster in question blocking that path.

According to Verdell, their best chance of surviving the current deadly situation that they found themselves in was to continue forward and hope they ran into mist island, a unique kind of island that formed within large enough mist seas where the local monsters of the mist sea couldn’t enter.

The problem with this plan being that these kinds of unique islands weren’t exactly easy to encounter and stepping onto them wasn’t entirely safe either.

Still, it was much better than fighting with the terrifying monster chasing them now.

In a best-case scenario, they could remain on the special mist island for a few days and spend their time there dealing with the local monsters waiting for the powerful monster that had been chasing the two of them to leave before heading back the way they had come from.

Although she didn’t understand much about what Verdell was talking about, she just silently nodded her head as she continued gliding through the air aided by her wind magic. Knowing that in this kind of situation it was best for her to listen to what Verdell said, as he had made it clear to her that he was far more knowledgeable than her when it came to dungeons.

So much for her entering this final floor of the dungeon for an easy way to gather experience by killing off a large number of injured monsters and undead, she had instead found herself facing one life and death situation after the other... And while part of her wanted to blame the dwarf on her back for this unfortunate turn of events, she understood that it didn’t have anything to do with him. After all, he was in the same deadly predicament as her.

If anything, it was her who had ended up choosing the wrong mountain to land on. Provoking some annoying toad before being knocked out in a rather embarrassing manner. Forcing Verdell to rely on his own rather lacking magic for flying to carry her and himself out of danger while she was off into dreamland all on her own.

Hm? There is something in the distance... Is it the mist island Verdell mentioned?

As she was thinking about how embarrassing it had been for her to just get knocked out from landing a little hard on the ground, a sudden change in the distance still too far for Verdell to notice caught her eye and remembering what Verdell had just mentioned, she didn’t hesitate for a second before shifting towards that newly emerged land in the distance. Knowing very well that this might be the only way for her and Verdell to escape from their current life and death predicament.

"Huh? That... That isn’t a mist island! It’s the edge of the sea of mist!"

However, as the two of them grew closer to this landmass in the distance, Verdell suddenly erupted in joy as different from her, he clearly realized what had appeared in the distance wasn’t some unique mist island, but instead the edge of the sea of mist.

But overjoyed as this made him feel, it also caused him to become a bit confused. Not understanding how they had seemingly crossed this sea of mist in such a short time. Knowing from what he had learnt about such unique environments capable of nurturing monsters above the SS Rank, that it shouldn’t have been possible for the two of them to cross it in such a short time.

"Go! Fast! Get to the land and that monster shouldn’t want to chase after us!" Then again, though he was confused at this turn of events, it didn’t diminish his joy, as he happily called out for Scaly to hurry up and get to the land in the distance.

A command that caused Scaly to roll her eyes somewhat, as she was already going as fast as she could. Even using her wind magic to increase her flying speed beyond what would normally have been possible.

Still, hearing the joy in Verdell’s voice, she knew that the two of them were finally about to be out of danger. After which she silently vowed to herself that she was going to find the battlefield where the necromancer from the Eternal Life Sanctum and the dungeon core and its monsters were battling with each other.

Feeling that if she didn’t cut down a dozen S Rank Monsters in the future, the pain she had been forced to endure while escaping for her life ever since reaching this floor of the dungeon simply wouldn’t have been worth it.

Whoosh~

And so, amidst the inner complaints of Scaly and the overjoyed exclamation of Verdell, the two soon enough managed to successfully fly out of the sea of mist before the monster chasing them from beneath the mist had the chance to catch up with the two of them.
