Reincarnated as an Energy with a System
Chapter 1905: Voice of God
Ning moved instantly. He crossed the distance in a flash and pulled on Godhood’s cloak, letting the dagger miss him by seconds. The angel fell to the ground, quickly scrambling to get back up.
Sharron stumbled back, her eyes wide in panic.
The silhouette paused, its featureless head tilting toward Ning.
"That’s surprising," the figure said. "I was certain I could get a kill there." He slowly melted away back into the floor. "Imagine how big of a news it would be if the second greatest hero in this world were to die so easily."
Ning looked at the vanished killer, knowing he had no way to grab him at all. "You two," he turned to Sharron and Godhood. "On the desks. Now!"
The two rushed to climb on top of the desks, staying away from where the person could climb away from. At the same time, Ning kept an eye everywhere, not just the floor, since the man could move through both the walls and the ceiling.
The next time around, he came down from the ceiling, coming down toward Godhood again. For some reason, he found Godhood a better target than Sharron, perhaps because he was the strongest hero and he knew he needed to get rid of him.
Ning grabbed onto the nearby chair and hurled it at the falling man, changing his trajectory just enough for the dagger to miss. The man fell onto the metal desk with a loud thud before rolling down onto the floor and melting away into it.
With the efficiency he acted with, Ning could hardly even doubt that the man wasn’t used to his powers. He had to have trained them for at least months, if not years. He was no rookie to be joining Tritus’ team.
"Do you know any hero that can do this?" Ning asked Godhood as he got onto the table as well.
"No," he answered. "But I don’t pay much attention to the heroes, so I cannot tell."
Ning frowned slightly.
Where the hell could they have found this person then?
Sharron clung next to Ning, shaking somewhat. Since no one there had powers, she got scared. Ning had quite a bit of strength, but he couldn’t show it just yet.
Even if he did use it, it was useless since the man could easily melt away into the floor.
’Melt away,’ Ning thought. ’He didn’t do that earlier.’
When he struck the metal desk, he slammed onto it instead of melting into it. Could he perhaps not vanish into a different material from what he had changed into?
Ning grabbed Sharron by the waist, pulling her back right as the man came out of the metal. This time around, his entire body looked to be metallic in nature too, as though he had fully absorbed that power.
Ning reached out with his other hand, grabbing the man by his wrist. The man was clearly surprised by that. He tried to pull his arm back, but Ning held him quite tightly.
Even through the featureless face, Ning could see the surprised look on the man’s face. He could see that Ning had strength that went beyond his powers.
Or maybe, he had powers that did work even under suppression.
"How can you—"
He was immediately distracted halfway through his sentence, as everyone within that room immediately realized the change that had taken place.
<Suppression Field has vanished>
Someone had stopped the Suppression Field generator.
"Well, time to go," the man said, melting back into the metal.
However, before he was fully gone, Godhood spoke up.
"Come back," he said.
There was an ethereal quality to his voice that stopped the man right in his tracks. He was halfway melted when he stopped and slowly reformed back on top of the table.
"This life of crime is not for you," Godhood said. "Choose the right path."
Ning frowned slightly, realizing what was happening. He had felt this before when Godhood had spoken to him and had known what he had attempted to do.
Godhood had the power to speak to anyone and fill them with righteous thoughts. No matter how evil they were and what crimes they committed, for the brief moment that he spoke to them, they would be ready to turn over a new leaf, and many of them even did.
The part of someone’s mind that governed ethics and morality was triggered by Godhood, pushing them onto the correct path.
Many online called him the voice of God. Many said that he was God.
By now, it was hard to tell whether he gained his moniker first, or his hero name.
"Reveal to us who you are, my friend," Godhood said. "Hiding in the shadows is the work of evil men."
"But... I can’t," the man said, totally infatuated with Godhood’s voice. "If I tell you, I will get in trouble."
"It is better to be a good man and be punished for it than to remain an evil man whose heart will forever be plagued with guilt."
The man froze and slowly, the metal he had formed his body with faded away, leaving behind a regular elf in regular clothes. He did not look like a hero, or anyone Ning recognized.
Sharron shook her head as well. She had no idea who this was.
"What is your name, friend?" Godhood asked.
"Calvin," the man said.
"Who are you, Calvin? Who sent you here?" Godhood asked.
"I was—"
Before the man could answer, something appeared next to them. A massive tiger jumped out of the shadows, nearly tearing the man’s face away.
Ning barely reacted in time, pulling the man away from the path of the tiger’s attack. The tiger landed among the equipment on another desk, quickly turning into a monkey that jumped backward and stood the furthest away.
Ning looked at the monkey with a strange look. "And who are you?" he asked.
"I knew it was a mistake to send him into the field with heroes at work," the monkey spoke with a surprisingly human voice. It then turned toward Ning.
"Greetings! I am Number 3."
