Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide
Chapter 28: Rat Demon Quest
Niall nodded. "We did as well, but we were already in combat. You see, there is a chance to get rewards from killing monsters. We all grabbed weapons from home the first day and then gathered.
Nobody else was there when we arrived, they all fled. So, we teamed up again.
Do you guys have supplies here? If not, we can help you raid for them."
Kalli nodded. "If you do quests, you can get food. It’s one of the possible rewards."
Niall sighed in relief. "Well, it’s not a free ride, but it’s something. Now, let’s see what I’ve got."
He opened his box and received a [First Aid Kit].
{First Aid Kit} apply bandage to heal 5 points of health every 10 seconds for 2 minutes.
"I wonder how much that is?" He asked, examining the box for signs of instructions.
Yara moved to inspect it. "That’s as much as my second healing spell, but spread out over two minutes. It’s enough that it will heal a broken arm and some more serious cuts all at once.
Well, not all at once in this case. But if you wrap a broken arm, you should be good to go in just a couple of minutes. Plus, it’s a bandage, it will stop bleeding."
"That is wonderful news. So, your class did get healers."
Yara smiled. "Yes, President. We’ve got three proper healers, but the mission only lets us send five people per team. So, we don’t really have one to spare, and we have to keep a team at the base for security anyhow.
Unless more students come back with abilities, we still need to ration our healers.
We can’t afford to lose one.
But we’ve got Sergeant Sanchez here, and he’s been teaching all of us to fight. Plus, we got gear from the first batch of quests. We went to shelter in the dorms after the incident, and we got quests all the way through."
Clearly, Kalli and Sanchez’ team were the only ones here who did not know the newcomers.
"Alright, there are twenty-five bandages in the first aid kit, and they can’t be removed to share them. So, I will hold them as a medic, since I’m a fast-moving class.
I didn’t fail sports medicine class, so there is that."
The warriors with him laughed, and Niall shrugged. "It’s not like the Student Council President is allowed to fail classes anyhow. No matter how popular I was with the students, the administration would never allow a slacker to be Student Council President."
Yara nodded. "I need to take my team out. We’ve also got a loot box waiting on us to kill ten rat demons. There are too many in the area, and we think they’ve been making nests."
"Alright, go. I will speak with whoever is left behind to see if we can make a plan to find more of the students. They can’t all be living in some warlord fantasy."
Kalli glanced from him to the girls with him, and Yara laughed.
"She’s on to you. You came back with your harem."
"You know that’s not how it is. For one, Joanna is my twin sister. Just no."
Yara shrugged. "There are fan fictions."
Reggie laughed as he joined them, and waved to Niall. "See you soon, Pres. If you didn’t clear the ones closest to the Academy, we shouldn’t be long."
That got the others moving. The easiest ones to find would go first, as well as the closest ones to the Academy. If they were going to get their rewards, they needed to get to work.
Sanchez made a motion, and three of his team members split off to join the other three teams, while he went with two more warriors and two mages.
Their team didn’t have a healer, but the Sergeant had a military med kit. Not as good as the quest reward, but good enough for emergencies. Plus, he was a sniper, and with that, they would have a much easier time eliminating the rats.
Kalli left the gates cracked open so that the teams could rush back in if there was trouble, and gestured to the Academy.
"There is food in the cafeteria. Gerry is in the culinary classes, so he’s been making us monster boar for breakfast. We tested it, and it’s safe. Plus, it’s really filling."
"Well, if you’re not dead, it must be fine to eat, and we will take whatever food we can get. We checked the grocery store, but some idiot set the place on fire, and the drugstore is completely empty, like they went out of business."
That was actually Kalli’s fault. She had looted the place the first afternoon, when she went for a supply run with Yara.
"Hey, we got a System Point. That’s pretty cool. If we get five, we can trade them for an upgraded skill." Joanna, the blonde warrior girl who had to be Niall’s sister, going by appearances, realized.
"It says that we can also exchange them with the Coordinator if we are in need of supplies."
Kalli blinked slowly.
What sort of game was the System playing?
She had put in so much work to keep her core abilities hidden and appear both mysterious and powerful enough to be useful, but not so powerful to end up chained in a basement safe room somewhere.
But now, it had just openly outed her as a source of loot.
Kalli sighed. "There isn’t much that you can get with one point. Common Grade melee weapons, ammunition, cases of military rations, or nutrition bars. Oh, you can get the basics like sleeping bags and cookware too. But the tents are two points, and most of the other good things are even more than that."
"My dad is chief of police, so I borrowed his spare gun. Can you get me ammunition for that?"
Niall lifted his jacket, showing off a pair of machetes, and a polished gold Glock.
"Very flashy. But yeah, you can exchange for a box of ammunition if you need it. I would recommend that you don’t stick with that weapon, though. Not only does it reflect the light, it’s also going to be loud.
The ones that the army brought are all silenced, but we don’t have spares right now."
"Is there a silencer for sale? I’ve got ammunition enough for a few missions."
Kalli searched the store until she found what she was looking for.
{Universal Suppressor} dampens the noise of gunshots. 1 Point.
"One point. I have it."
{System Point Gained.} Total 267 Points
{Item Purchased} Universal Suppressor
{Cost} 1 Point 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Kalli handed over the suppressor, which appeared as a small black box that made the suppressor appear on Niall’s pistol as soon as he opened it.
"Sweet. Now I can shoot without risking pulling everything to us. That’s two wins in one day. What did everyone else get?"
