Then Kalli remembered that there was one more important mission for the new arrivals.

"There is an ongoing quest here that you should be able to do right away. Sixty minutes or more of continuous heavy exertion. Many of our members are struggling with it now, as the Gym equipment can’t keep up, but with your recent stat losses, getting back some strength and endurance over the next few days will be vital.

If you head in there now, you can get the after dinner crowd, and they’ll give you an idea of what is needed.

Even the healers go to train, though they usually work on agility and endurance, not strength.

You can do all three, if you’re brave enough."

"What do you do?" Lillian asked.

"All three. I might not be a fighting specialized class, but when I need to, I’ll be able to."

"Alright, we will head over and meet the people. Getting back even a bit of what we lost will make me feel a bit more secure."

"Then, I will check in with you in the morning. The quest resets after midnight, so you can do it again before breakfast and get on the same routine as the other overachievers. Some prefer the evening, and you can pick, but for tomorrow, I recommend hitting the gym before you go out, just to get the extra gain."

"We will follow your guidance, Miss Kalli. Honestly, I think that we’re all in shock right now.

I know that Lillian is doing her best not to think about what happened, and I would rather not consider what happened after I fell. I ordered everyone to evacuate, but where would they even go?" Temple asked sadly.

"Focus on the future, you did as well as you could. That’s what matters."

Kalli left them to go to their training, and headed for the wall to see what was going on in the distance.

They had individually gotten the rewards for the kill counts on the boars and the Swineherd Demons, but neither quest counted as entirely completed by anyone. Was it not one that she had to renew daily?

Her first thought was that the Swineherds were going to become a nocturnal nuisance, letting the pigs loose on the tubers after dark, when the heroes were already home for the night.

If they did that, she would have to send an emergency quest to get people back out there and save their food supply.

"I will take the morning shift in the tower tonight, let me know if something happens on the early shift. I have a suspicion that things are about to get hectic." Kalli whispered to Sanchez, who was setting up his bunk in his usual tower.

"Yeah, it’s got that feeling of the calm before the storm, doesn’t it? Alright, I will keep you in the loop. See you in a few hours."

Kalli nodded, and went to her room to catch a bit of sleep before her watch.

It was an uneasy sleep, but when she got to the tower, Sanchez was waiting for her with a casual pose. He was also sitting outside the tower, enjoying the evening air.

He nodded into the distance. "I saw one armoured boar out there, but that’s it. I don’t think that the Swineherd Demons can see well enough in the dark to lead them through the woods."

"That’s excellent news, but it also means that we need to have teams out first thing in the morning to keep them from coming back.

I will spread the news when people start waking up tomorrow.

I’ve arranged for the new group to go to the gym first thing. They lost ten percent of their stats to resurrection, but they can recover most of them. I also suspect they were way behind the group here to begin with, but they’ve got the right spirit.

If you can keep an eye out for them, I’d appreciate it."

"No worries. I’ll make sure that they’re taken care of. I think that we can get Esmeralda to look out for them as well. She’s with the rest of my team again tomorrow because they’re the only ones she’s willing to tolerate, and they like that they can shoot over the heads of her skeletons."

Kalli laughed. "Remember to send them over for more ammunition if they need it."

"Will do. They didn’t actually use much yesterday. Mostly we all just scouted, and then killed the bare minimum. So, they only used up one magazine at most, and they started the day with a full case of ammo.

As long as things don’t go sideways, they should only have to restock once or twice a week. That’s enough to leave them plenty of points for general purposes."

Sanchez smiled at a memory before he continued.

"Well, they’re trying to save as many points as possible, since they can’t trade them to get someone a skill earlier. They already tried. But they won’t know if they become awakened heroes when they get a skill until they reach twenty points."

"Best of luck, then. Get some sleep, and I will wake you if something important happens."

The other student in the room blinked sleepily as he realized that it was shift change, and he had basically nodded off on watch.

Kalli would certainly chew him out about that later, so he snuck away silently before the Coordinator could say anything about his lapse.

His replacement came in moments later, and took a place next to Kalli on the wall, relaxing in a folding chair. They stared silently out into the distance for a while, before the boy sighed.

"It’s too strange having three moons. There are no truly dark nights. But look out there on the shore."

Kalli turned to see what he meant, then lifted her rifle to inspect it more closely through the scope.

A small figure was darting through the low brush, while a group of Swineherd Demons sat around a fire drinking. The figure was pretty clearly visible to her, at least through the scope, at three kilometres away.

But even though some of the Swineherd were looking in that direction, they didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, and didn’t react.

Only when the rat man stole one of the armoured boars, which seemed reluctant to leave the pile of feed it was standing next to, did they finally react. Their night vision wasn’t just bad, it was absolutely abysmal. Even with all three moons up, they couldn’t see more than a few metres in front of their faces.
