Chapter 68: A Knight of Karthenheim

"RUN!" Caelum shouted toward Bonjour as both of them immediately sprinted away at full speed.

Technically speaking, Caelum believed he could fight the two gorillas if necessary.

However, he did not underestimate them in the slightest.

Earlier, even the Lesser Beasts had displayed physical abilities comparable to ordinary Greater Beasts, so naturally he assumed that these Prime Beasts likely possessed strength approaching Elder Beasts.

And more importantly, Bonjour was still beside him.

Caelum did not want to risk the barbarian getting seriously injured in a pointless battle.

Unfortunately, the female gorilla appeared to be in an extremely terrible mood.

The surrounding ice suddenly began trembling violently as enormous frozen spikes formed throughout the air before launching directly toward the fleeing boys.

"Climb the mountain!" Caelum shouted instantly.

Bonjour reacted immediately.

He jumped upward and gripped the thick frozen cliffside before rapidly scaling the mountain through a series of explosive leaps.

Meanwhile, Caelum used Aura to run directly across the steep mountain wall itself while blue Sword Qi erupted repeatedly from his blade, shattering every incoming ice spike in their path.

CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!

Fragments of shattered frost exploded around them continuously.

Bonjour himself clearly wanted to turn around and fight, but even he understood that the gorillas were currently too strong for them.

And this was not some glorious life-or-death duel.

This was survival.

Then the male gorilla finally joined the chase as well.

And unlike the female, he was not merely angry anymore.

He was emotionally devastated.

"WWWWOOOOOOHHHHH—!"

The gorilla’s roar echoed throughout the mountains. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Although he still remained some distance away, the moment he slammed his fists against the mountain cliff, the entire terrain began changing violently.

BOOOOM!

The whole mountain shook.

Massive cracks spread through the ice while entire sections of the cliffside began collapsing downward.

"What the hell?!" Bonjour shouted as his footing suddenly slipped.

For a brief moment, he completely lost balance and began falling from the mountain.

However, Caelum instantly reacted.

He embedded his sword directly into the cliffside before using it as leverage to launch himself toward Bonjour.

Then – THUD!

Caelum kicked Bonjour directly in the back.

The barbarian shot forward through the air before regaining his grip against the mountain wall.

Meanwhile, after saving Bonjour, Caelum himself lost momentum and began falling downward instead.

Directly toward the female gorilla.

The creature was somehow floating midair while surrounded by dense white mist.

Her furious eyes locked onto Caelum instantly.

However, instead of panicking, Caelum directly crashed toward her face.

BAM!

Then, while gripping her fur tightly, he immediately cast the first-circle spell [Ember].

Flames erupted across portions of her white fur.

"KKWOOOOOO—!"

The female gorilla shrieked furiously.

Then suddenly, an enormous spine of ice materialized across her back alongside a long frozen tail that attempted to imprison Caelum entirely.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

The icy tail attacked repeatedly at terrifying speed.

Caelum dodged continuously through the narrow space while Aura coated both his fists.

BOOOOM!

He smashed apart the ice prison trapping him.

However, before he could properly escape, a massive shadow suddenly appeared directly before him.

The male gorilla had arrived.

A gigantic fist descended toward Caelum with enough force to pulverize stone.

Fortunately, Caelum narrowly dodged the punch at the final moment.

And unfortunately, the female gorilla received the full impact instead.

"KKYYYOOOHHHH—!"

The female gorilla shrieked in fury after receiving the full force of the male gorilla’s punch.

The impact sent her crashing into the icy cliffside while the surrounding mist exploded outward violently.

For a brief moment, the entire mountain trembled again.

Meanwhile, Caelum immediately performed [Air Steps] in midair before retrieving his sword from the cliffside with a swift motion.

Instead of continuing to flee instantly, he turned around and directly confronted the two enraged gorillas head-on.

At the same moment, Bonjour suddenly descended from above like a falling meteor.

The barbarian embedded his axe at the female gorilla’s back, creating only a wound across her thick hide, though strange blue blood immediately began leaking from the injury.

"Why is he enjoying this..." Caelum muttered under his breath while gripping his sword tightly.

Then, brilliant Sword Qi gathered around his blade as Caelum executed the first form of his swordsmanship.

[Heaven Dominating Divine Sword Art] — First Form

[Heaven Transcending Slash]

For a single moment, blue swallowed the entire cliffside.

An overwhelming slash erupted forward as countless layers of ice split apart throughout the mountain.

BOOOOOOM!

The two gorillas instantly sensed danger.

Massive armor-like layers of condensed frost materialized before them instinctively in an attempt to block the incoming attack.

However, the slash cut through the icy defense regardless.

Deep wounds appeared across both gorillas as blood splattered onto the snow-covered mountain.

Caelum himself did not stay behind to observe the results.

The moment the attack landed, he grabbed Bonjour once again and hurled him upward toward the higher cliffside.

Then Caelum began sprinting upward himself while using Aura to run directly across the vertical mountain walls.

Behind them, furious roars echoed repeatedly throughout the mountains.

However, strangely enough, the two gorillas no longer continued chasing them directly.

"Did they finally give up?" Bonjour asked while climbing upward rapidly.

"I highly doubt that," Caelum replied honestly.

Still, neither of them slowed down.

The mountain itself felt absurdly massive the higher they climbed.

Even after all this time, the snowy peaks above still seemed endlessly distant.

"Don’t you think this mountain is unnaturally huge?" Bonjour finally asked while looking upward seriously.

Meanwhile, Caelum continued casually running horizontally across the cliffside beside him as though gravity barely applied to him anymore.

"It’s not like we can stop climbing now, right?" he replied.

Thus, after countless ups and downs, the two eventually discovered a small cave hidden between layers of thick ice.

And they also discovered a skeleton inside.

Beside the skeleton rested an old book covered in frost.

"Let’s rest here for a while," Bonjour said while sitting down heavily.

A thin layer of ice had already begun forming across portions of his skin due to the cold.

Caelum nodded before passing him several of the fruits they had gathered earlier from the mountain orchard.

The sun itself was already beginning to disappear beyond the snowy horizon, and neither of them wanted to remain exposed outside during nighttime.

After all, according to [Running Wild With Big Bear!], nocturnal people should travel at night, while ordinary people should avoid unnecessary movement after dark whenever possible.

Of course, those rules supposedly no longer applied to beings who had crossed into the level of Masters or High Mages.

Yet, neither of them belonged to that category yet.

And honestly, neither of them wanted to discover what kind of monsters roamed these mountains after sunset.

Caelum himself ate another fruit while approaching the skeleton carefully.

Then he picked up the old frozen book resting beside it.

"It’s written in Old Euth," Caelum muttered with visible surprise.

"Not the modern simplified version."

Even for him, reading the ancient language took some effort, as for how he knew them?

This is what he did in the Library when he was small, learning languages.

Bonjour also moved closer with interest.

Slowly, Caelum read the first few lines aloud.

"I am Zusur, a knight of Karthenheim..."
