Chapter 584: Chapter 582: Sudden Surge, Witnessing Xue Xing

After hanging up the phone, Si Wen lay in bed.

For a fleeting moment, she considered asking her aunt for help, but the thought vanished as quickly as it came. Although reason told her that Xue Xing was far away and it was impossible for him to suddenly appear, her heart still clung to an unrealistic hope that he would arrive like a miracle.

"It’s obvious, how could he possibly show up?" she muttered to herself, gently shaking her head. "We’re so far apart, and he’s in his stressful senior year of high school. There’s no way he could come over at a time like this." With that thought, Si Wen drifted into a hazy sleep.

When she woke up again, it was already evening. She was alone in the room, and a tide of loneliness and solitude washed over her.

She looked out the window and noticed the snow had stopped at some point, leaving behind a world clad in silver. However, Si Wen was in no mood to appreciate the beautiful scenery. Her head ached as if it were about to split, and a touch to her forehead confirmed the fever hadn’t subsided.

The physical discomfort left her with almost no strength to get out of bed. Hunger and illness intertwined, making her feel weaker than ever before. She struggled to get up and call her aunt for help, but every slight movement brought on a rush of dizziness that forced her to lie back down.

Finally, she managed to grasp her phone. Just as she was about to dial her aunt’s number, it suddenly rang. Not seeing the caller ID clearly, Si Wen pressed the answer button.

"Sister Si Wen, where are you?" Xue Xing’s anxious voice came from the other end.

However, the line sounded noisy, and Si Wen was too feverish and delirious to recognize his voice.

"I’m at home," she answered, her voice weak and vague.

"Your exact address."

In a daze, almost unconsciously, Si Wen gave Xue Xing her home address.

After jotting down the address, Xue Xing immediately hailed a taxi and rushed to Tongfang Residential District. He remembered his brother mentioning that Sister Si Wen had also bought a home in their complex, just in a different building. I hope I don’t run into my brother, he silently prayed.

Forty minutes later, the taxi pulled up to the entrance of Tongfang Residential District. Xue Xing quickly registered with the security guard and asked for the location of Si Wen’s building. Once he had the directions, he ran without hesitation, his only hope to get to her side as quickly as possible.

The elevator doors opened slowly, and Xue Xing found himself on Si Wen’s floor. He took a deep breath, gathered his courage, and pressed the doorbell.

DING-DONG! DING-DONG!

The sound echoed clearly in what seemed to be an empty apartment. Xue Xing’s heart leaped into his throat. Could Sister Si Wen have already fainted? he worried.

Just as he was considering contacting property management for help, the door suddenly opened.

Si Wen stood in the doorway, her face pale and her figure fragile. A hint of bewilderment flickered in her eyes, as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

"I think I stood up too fast," Si Wen mumbled, rubbing her eyes. Her voice was tinged with uncertainty. "Otherwise, why would I be seeing Xue Xing?"

With that, she staggered back into the room, collapsed onto the bed, and closed her eyes.

Xue Xing hurriedly followed her in and sat by the bed, waiting for her to come to. A while later, Si Wen’s eyes opened again, her mind seeming a bit clearer. She saw Xue Xing sitting beside her, holding a damp towel. He gently placed it on her forehead. The warm touch against her feverish skin gradually cleared her groggy head. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"How did you get here?" Si Wen’s voice was weak but filled with surprise.

While tending to her fever with the towel, Xue Xing answered, "I took a plane here by myself."

Si Wen laughed with a hint of astonishment. "That’s impressive. You can take a plane by yourself now?"

Xue Xing gave a helpless smile. "I’m an adult, you know. Of course I know how to take a plane."

As if just remembering, Si Wen chuckled softly. "Oh, right. You’re an adult now, aren’t you?"

Xue Xing took the towel away to check her forehead. She was definitely still feverish.

"Sister Si Wen, get up. I’m taking you to the hospital."

Si Wen shook her head weakly. "I don’t want to go to the hospital."

Xue Xing looked at her with concern. "You’ve had this fever for so long. If you don’t go, your body won’t be able to handle it."

"I still don’t want to go," Si Wen insisted.

"No. On this, you have to listen to me," Xue Xing said firmly, then gently helped her sit up.

However, she was exceptionally weak and almost unable to stand. Feeling helpless and heartbroken, Xue Xing knelt down so she could climb onto his back. He held her securely to make sure she wouldn’t slip, took a deep breath, and started toward the hospital with her on his back.

Outside, it was already dark. Xue Yang and Lin Xi left their apartment, their fingers tightly interlocked.

"Xue Yang, I think I just saw Xue Xing," Lin Xi said softly, a flash of confusion in her eyes.

Hearing this, Xue Yang frowned slightly. "You must be mistaken. Xue Xing should still be in Hui City. Besides, he’s a high school senior. Why would he suddenly show up here?"

Lin Xi thought about it and agreed her guess seemed a bit absurd. She nodded. "You’re right. I must have been mistaken."

After walking a few more steps, Xue Yang suddenly stopped.

"Xue Yang, what’s wrong?" Lin Xi asked, puzzled.

He turned his head to ask her, "Where did you see him just now?"

Lin Xi pointed toward the intersection ahead. "Just over there. Why?"

Xue Yang pondered for a moment before speaking slowly. "Perhaps it really was him."

"What? How is that possible?" Lin Xi gasped.

"He borrowed five thousand yuan from me this morning, saying he needed it for something urgent," Xue Yang explained. "So, the person you just saw could very well have been him."

"Then when Si Wen said she had plans... could she have been meeting with Xue Xing?" Connecting the dots, Lin Xi proposed a bold hypothesis.

Xue Yang’s eyes lit up, feeling it was highly likely. "That makes sense. They might have really met up secretly without telling us." Then he added, "But since they don’t want us to know, let’s just pretend we didn’t see anything."

Lin Xi nodded in agreement. "Alright. Let’s stick to our plan and go to the movies."

They smiled at each other and walked hand in hand toward the cinema, putting the little interruption behind them.

Meanwhile, with Si Wen on his back, Xue Xing left the residential district, quickly hailed a taxi, and headed for the nearest hospital. The entire way, he debated whether or not he should tell his brother about this.

Although Xue Xing was an adult, he had, after all, only just turned eighteen.
