Return to the City: The Strongest King
Chapter 2077 - 1945: Tattling Report_6
After all, what these patients need most right now isn’t a cure, but relief from itching and pain.
Director Wu glanced around and asked, "Is there no one in Minghe who can treat this chickenpox?"
The group looked at each other in silence.
"Director Wu, there is no specific medication for treating chickenpox. It can only be treated symptomatically while waiting for it to resolve itself," Expert Liu said to Director Liu.
Suddenly, Vice President Zhao, seated farthest from Director Wu, stood up and said to him, "Director Wu, I know someone who can treat this chickenpox effectively."
Director Wu’s eyes lit up, and he asked Vice President Zhao, "Really? Who is it?"
Vice President Zhao pointed to Song Xiaodong, who sat calmly next to him, and said, "It’s this Mr. Song!"
"What? He can treat it?"
"That’s nonsense! How could he not know whether chickenpox is contagious, yet claim he can treat it?"
"This young guy is clueless, and Vice President Zhao is senile!"
"Making such bold claims, when even Expert Liu isn’t confident, and Doctor Zhang says he can only offer relief, yet he dares to say he can cure it?"
"There’s going to be a show! If he can’t treat it, it’ll be entertaining to watch!"
Director Wu hastily asked Song Xiaodong, "Mr. Song, can you really treat it?"
Song Xiaodong looked at Director Wu for a while before he slowly said, "Director Wu, I can treat this chickenpox."
"That’s certainly bold talk!"
Song Xiaodong intentionally paused and then stood up, looked around, and said to Director Wu, "Moreover, I’m the only one in Minghe who can treat it."
"Doctor Song, you shouldn’t make such sweeping statements!"
"Doctor Song, if your bluff gets exposed, it won’t be fun!"
"Doctor Song, joking with Director Wu present isn’t appropriate!"
Doctor Zhang glanced at Song Xiaodong and said, "Mr. Song, I’ve seen your prescription, and it doesn’t conform to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine composition. You shouldn’t joke about it, otherwise, it’s a minor issue if it’s ineffective, but if it causes harm to the patients, that’ll be serious!"
"Yes, Doctor Song, Doctor Zhang comes from a family of Chinese medicine practitioners, and Expert Liu is a veteran in Minghe’s traditional Chinese medicine community. Both say it can’t be treated, and your claim is truly hard to believe!"
"Mr. Song, this is a seminar, not child’s play; if you cause trouble, don’t blame Director Wu for being tough." Expert Liu also said to Song Xiaodong.
Song Xiaodong patiently listened to these comments and then turned to Vice President Zhao and said, "Vice President Zhao, could you explain to them?"
"Certainly, Mr. Song."
Song Xiaodong sat down, and Vice President Zhao stood up and said to everyone, "Here’s the thing, Mr. Song is not part of our hospital’s staff; he’s an external hire. Yesterday, we suddenly had many chickenpox patients that overwhelmed the outpatient department, so we assigned four patients to Mr. Song. He prescribed them medicine, and the four patients returned today, accompanied by more patients. These patients said after taking Mr. Song’s prescribed medication, their itching and pain symptoms were significantly relieved, the chickenpox began scabbing, and much of the discharge had dissipated."
"Is that so?" Director Wu asked Vice President Zhao excitedly after hearing this.
"Director Wu, do you think I could be faking this?" Vice President Zhao replied.
"Hmm, not necessarily. You, Vice President Zhao, are about to get promoted; you might be eager to show some achievements!"
"What nonsense are you spouting? We’re discussing chickenpox prevention, not this!"
"Director Wu, genuine medicine shows its efficacy; why fake it? We could just call a few of the patients to verify it?" Vice President Zhao proposed.
"Listening to Mr. Song’s remarks earlier, his insights on chickenpox seem quite profound, so this might be true."
After listening for a while, Expert Liu asked, "Mr. Song, what prescription did you use to see results overnight?"
"Well, I’ve noted down the prescription." Doctor Zhang was intent on embarrassing Song Xiaodong and handed a sheet to Expert Liu.
Expert Liu took the paper from Doctor Zhang, pulled a pair of glasses from his chest pocket, put them on, glanced at it, and anger crossed his eyes as he tossed the paper onto the table.
"Expert Liu, what are you doing?" The surrounding experts and professors were puzzled.
"Have a look yourselves; is this acceptable? Are we here to joke with Director Wu?" Expert Liu pointed at the prescription on the table and turned his head away, crossing his arms.
"Let me see." Nearby experts picked up the paper and glanced at it, showing anger as well.
"Doctor Song, is this how you prescribe medication? Do you know anything about traditional Chinese medicine? Have you taken the qualification exams?"
Seeing everyone’s reactions, Director Wu hastily asked, "What’s wrong? Is there an issue?"
"Director Wu, the prescription Doctor Song made isn’t really a traditional Chinese medicines recipe; it resembles a random selection by a six-year-old at a medicine shop. Forget about treating chickenpox; it’s not even a real prescription."
"Doctor Song, can you explain if this is the prescription that treated four patients?" Expert Liu challenged Song Xiaodong.
"Unusual ailments require unusual remedies; my prescription may be peculiar, yet it truly works. But as I’ve said, in all of Minghe, only I can treat this chickenpox. The same prescription, in your incompetent hands, might not count as a real prescription. But in my hands, it becomes miraculous," Song Xiaodong bragged about his medical skill while deriding the attending presidents and experts.
"Who are you calling incompetent doctors?" Several fiery-tempered experts slammed the table, ready to rise.
"I’m calling you incompetent doctors!" Song Xiaodong retorted boldly.
"Getting the differential diagnosis for chickenpox wrong, and you still call yourselves experts!" Song Xiaodong pointed fingers at each one, missing none.
"Don’t be arrogant! Vice President Zhao, you claim four patients have been cured, bring them in for confrontation! If you’re faking, I’ll report you, revoke your medical license!"
