Chapter 107: Guarded Ambition

"Let’s move on to the more important topic."

She leaned forward, her fingers interlocked on the table.

"There are only three months until peak summer season. I want you to choose a romance drama and complete the shooting before then. I have a few scripts I liked. If you want, you can look over them."

Peak summer season referred to the month when the heat was at its peak and school breaks were ongoing.

Platforms release their flagship dramas in these release slots to capitalize on these seasons to capture a higher viewership.

Since people liked to stay indoors in the scorching heat and watch dramas, this season was one of the most sought after by drama productions to release their dramas.

For Ember to place Aren’s drama in that slot was proof in itself of his rising popularity.

After all, not too long ago, he was a hated idol who no one wanted to associate with; however, now that his reputation had changed for the better, everybody wanted to cling to him.

He wasn’t even receiving those hate comments and messages anymore. He had gotten used to them, but he almost missed them now.

Of course, he knew not all haters had disappeared. They were just biding their time waiting for an opportunity to take out all the frustration and jealousy they held towards him.

"No need." Aren waved his hand dismissively. "Lisa and I both selected a drama yesterday."

"Oh?" Ember instantly became excited and curious. "Which one?"

Since she had sent the script to Lisa, most of them were dramas, which had been pitched to her platform. Thus, she knew she could expedite the shooting faster than usual to finish it early.

"My Heiress." Aren informed with a smile.

"Why are you addressing me like that?" Ember frowned, mistaking that he was calling her the heiress.

With a deadpan expression, Aren clarified, "It’s the name of the drama."

"Oh." Ember realized her mistake as she coughed awkwardly and instantly took out her phone to call her secretary in an attempt to escape the embarrassment.

After a while, she was already reading the script of My Heiress.

Around fifteen minutes later, she smiled at Aren. "This is perfect. Let’s discuss the terms to cast you."

"Give me ten percent of profits," Aren replied flatly.

"No way." Ember shot him down instantly.

His popularity was already so high; on top of that, Lisa was playing the female lead. This drama was guaranteed to succeed and rake in a lot of profits.

If she agreed to his condition, she would be letting go of a whole lot of money.

As for Aren, this was the exact reason he asked for ten percent profits instead of a fixed amount.

Yes, with Symphony of Shadows, he had the same condition; however, that was different because at that time, his drama could easily flop.

But now, there was no chance that this drama wouldn’t succeed.

For a while, Ember tried to negotiate as she sent offer after offer.

"Fifteen million?" ($1.5 million)

"Ten percent profits," Aren replied flatly.

"Twenty million?"

"Ten percent profits."

"Twenty-five million?"

"Thirty million?"

"Thirty-Five Million?"

Aren yawned. "Ten percent profits."

"Hey, the highest salary for a drama any actor has ever received is forty million. I will match that, so just take it."

"Just give me ten percent profits, and I will accept. I don’t want to suck out forty million from you. We are friends after all. I will take the risk alongside you. If you don’t make a profit, just don’t pay me, hahaha." Aren laughed heartily, as if doing her a favor.

Ember’s face twitched at his shamelessness as she clenched her fists.

After a short while, she offered, "Then lower it to 5%."

"No."

"6? 7? 8?"

When Aren didn’t budge, she relented with gritted teeth. Still, she was keeping 90% of the profits to herself, so there wasn’t much to cry about.

"I will send an agent for contract signing after I contact the drama production team of My Highness."

Aren nodded in understanding.

"I also need to ask you for a favor." Aren said with a concerned expression. "I need you to hire some bodyguards for Lisa."

Ember frowned. "Why? Do you think Titan Crest Entertainment will target her?"

Aren shook his head.

"Not them. But now that she is popular, she’ll need some bodyguards for safety."

Ember nodded in understanding. "Alright. Consider it done."

"But..." She smiled. "Don’t you need bodyguards? Titan Crest Entertainment’s chairman would want to kill you for sure. You have made his whole company go under."

Hearing her words caused a strange sense of pleasure to surge in Aren’s heart, making him feel proud of himself.

However, he wasn’t satisfied yet.

This was only the first step.

Just taking away his influence and power wasn’t enough; he wanted to take his most precious things.

He wanted to see him in despair... see him go mad.

There was so much pain he wanted to inflict on him.

No way he would be satisfied with just this.

"I have a bodyguard in mind." Aren said, "I have wanted to hire him for so long."

"Oh?" Ember was curious. "Who is such a renowned person?"

"You won’t know him." Aren gave a knowing smile.

"For now, can you get me a driving license and a car?"

Ember gave him an offended look: "Do I look like a sales person to you? Just ask my secretary for these things."

"Alright then, I’ll take my leave." Aren hurriedly said and left.

Outside, he exchanged contacts with her secretary and requested her for the car and his license arrangements.

With Sun Group’s connections, getting a license was a piece of cake. Otherwise, he might have to go through the arduous process of the driving test.

Livia had taken her car to drop off Shane, so he called for a taxi, and instead of returning to his hotel room, he went to an outskirts neighborhood in the cheaper area of Blemure City.

On the way, he informed Livia about his meeting with Ember and his negotiations with her.

Then, after about two hours, he was in front of a two-story house as he rang the bell.

A robust man of 2m height emerged from inside and opened the door.

"Yes?" he looked Aren up and down. "How can I help you?"

Aren’s face was hidden behind a mask and cap.

"Mr. Arol, right?" Aren smiled at him and informed, "I want to hire you as my bodyguard."

Arol’s eyes widened upon hearing that.

He had been the bodyguard of the CEO of Titan Crest Entertainment, but after the CEO died under his protection, his reputation became synonymous with dirt. Nobody wanted to hire him anymore.

So who was this person?

"Come in first." Arol stepped aside and gestured inside. "Let’s talk inside."
