Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Lucien Vs the Savin bear

The Savin Bear looked at Lucien warily, observing him closely, its eyes locked onto its opponent.

Lucien took a deep breath, his gaze briefly flickering to his SP balance.

Even though the Savin Bear was stronger than him, Lucien felt he could still fight.

He had to.

And wasn’t this the perfect chance to show the results of his training?

With that thought, Lucien locked his eyes onto the bear.

Bang!

Lucien made the first move, his speed almost a blur as he charged at the Savin Bear.

The bear was confused. Even though they were both One-Star Awakeners, it felt superior. Shouldn’t Lucien retreat?

Instead...

He attacked.

Bang!

The Savin Bear swung its claws, each one nearly as large as Lucien himself.

Boom!

They clashed, and Lucien was knocked back, slamming into the ground.

"Ugh..." Lucien groaned as he pushed himself up.

The Savin Bear charged forward, its massive body making the ground tremble.

This creature had to weigh at least two tons.

"Damn..." Lucien muttered.

His head spun slightly, but he still sensed the incoming attack. He moved to the side, narrowly dodging the charge and the bear’s gaping jaws. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Seeing an opening, Lucien struck the bear’s side, causing it to stagger.

The Savin Bear’s claws dug into the ground as it struggled to maintain balance.

But Lucien didn’t waste the opportunity.

Bang!

Bang!

He struck twice more, and the bear finally crashed to the ground. The ground trembled as dust rose up showing it’s huge weight.

Jeff and Daemon watched in disbelief.

Was this the power of a One-Star Awakener?

If so, one could easily wipe out an entire battalion of trained soldiers. That alone was terrifying. Even without knowing their full durability, they likely could withstand normal bullets.

Jeff clenched his fists.

That pressure he felt earlier...

It had been overwhelming.

No matter how strong he thought he was, in front of this creature, he had been completely rooted in place.

But while Jeff was lost in thought...

The Savin Bear stood back up.

Lucien’s attacks had barely done anything.

If anything...

They had only made it angrier.

"Eyes..." Lucien murmured.

If he couldn’t damage its body, then its eyes might be the weakness.

It was a common vulnerability among most creatures.

Lucien leaped forward, aiming for its eyes

But the bear sensed it.

Bam!

It slammed its head into him, sending Lucien flying.

He crashed into the ground, pain surging through his body.

This bear...

It was unlike anything he had ever faced.

And that was with their stats being close.

If it were any stronger...

He might already be dead.

Still, Lucien didn’t give up.

His forearms had been bleeding for over a minute now. Blood covered his arms, and his abdomen and shoulders were bruised.

But despite all that...

He hadn’t truly hurt the bear.

Lucien gritted his teeth and moved again.

The bear moved as well, both of them blurring across the battlefield.

Lucien jumped and punched the bear’s head but the bear struck him, launching him high into the sky.

As Lucien rose nearly a dozen meters into the air, his mind raced.

Physically, they were close.

But the bear was far more durable.

Speed was nearly equal.

Maybe...

His only advantage was stamina.

But dragging this fight out was dangerous.

They were in an unknown forest.

Their battle could attract even stronger One-Star creatures.

The longer this fight lasted...

The more dangerous it became—for him, Jeff, and Daemon.

Using SP to heal wouldn’t matter if he couldn’t damage the bear.

"Exchange... for the sword," Lucien muttered.

His eyes sharpened with determination and killing intent.

At the peak of his ascent, his speed dropped to zero

And suddenly, a sword appeared in his hand.

At the same time...

His SP dropped from 40,000 to zero.

Lucien plunged downward.

Faster...

Faster...

The air screamed as his velocity increased.

The bear roared and swiped upward

But Lucien used the attack to adjust his trajectory, closing the distance even further.

Stab!

The blade pierced directly into the bear’s head. Lucien felt his blade entering past the thich skin and finally into it’s muscles and only stopping when it reached the dense bone.

For the first time...

He dealt real damage.

"ROAAARR!!"

The bear howled in pain.

Lucien pulled the sword free and pushed himself back, skidding across the ground.

Blood flowed from the bear’s head.

But Lucien’s expression suddenly changed.

From joy...

To horror.

Rusty Knight Sword

Durability: 9/10

---

"So one attack reduces durability by one...?" Lucien muttered in shock.

Was this a scam?

That meant he only had nine more attacks.

Nine chances.

Lucien tightened his grip on the sword.

The blade was sharp, but faint cracks were already visible along its surface. Rust covered it, even beneath the bear’s blood.

He took a deep breath.

Then he moved.

His body blurred again.

"I have to finish this quickly," Lucien thought.

The enraged bear lashed out wildly.

Lucien bent low, barely dodging the claws, slipping past them and reaching the creature’s back.

Slash!

Slash!

He struck both hind legs.

8/10

7/10

Lucien slid back as the bear roared.

But he didn’t stop.

His focus sharpened completely, his entire being locked onto the battle.

He moved to the side again

Stab.

Then Lucien shifted to the front limbs.

Slash.

Slash.

6/10

5/10

4/10

Just then

Rprkkk!

Lucien dodged as an arrow shot past him and pierced into the bear.

His heartbeat skipped.

An enemy...?

But that wasn’t the only arrow.

From all around them, arrows flew in from different directions..., all aimed at the bear.

They pierced its body far more easily than expected, drawing its attention away from Lucien and toward the surrounding trees.

Lucien paused, his mind racing.

There was only one conclusion

The arrows weren’t targeting him... they were targeting the bear.

Are they allies? He didn’t know.

But for now, they shared the same goal.

And only humans used arrows... right?

With that thought, Lucien moved again.

Taking advantage of the distraction, he launched another assault on the bear as it focused on the incoming arrows.

Strike after strike landed.

With each attack, his sword’s durability continued to drop.

But even then...

The Savin Bear refused to fall.

A pool of blood had already formed beneath it, yet it still stood—fierce, relentless, and full of vigor.
