The team leaders and the rest of the people on Earth were all happy with the end of the eclipse.

The darkness hadn’t been easy at all.

The sight of the sun after a week of darkness warmed their heart in ways they never thought possible.

They pondered on how they had taken light for granted. The one week of darkness had seemed like months to them.

The first two weeks had been brutal, with survivors fighting tooth and nail to make it through each harrowing day.

Now, as another week of the Armageddon commenced, they faced an even greater challenge.

It came from the constellations again.

The moon.

Just like the system message said, every night, the moon turned blood red bringing its own terrors.

Sleeping was out of the question as you were sure to wake up as a different person or creature as it turned out to be.

Every night, Demons appeared from random crimson portals all over the world.

These Demons were relatively weak compared to the likes of the Shadow demons of the previous week but they were no less deadly.

They infected people who in turn became Demons every time the moon came up.

It was all subtle and it meant that everyone had to be vigilant at night.

It created a new routine as people took to sleeping in the day so they could be up at night.

By the time they learnt that though, a good number of people had been lost already to the demons.

It also made people turn on each other.

In a group where they were more than one person, the others had to turn on their friend and kill him should he turn prey to the demons.

The ones that couldn’t take such drastic action against their newly turned friends were either turned to demons also or killed.

That became the new order of things.

The effect on the psyche was subtle but deadly.

It spawned mistrust naturally that humans also turned against other humans.

They killed each other out of fear, anger or as retaliation for fallen comrades.

In places like the Gifted Humans Alliance headquarters, there was still order and decorum.

The Pariah had taken charge of the situation and the rest of the team leaders.

His strategic mind and unwavering determination had kept them alive so far since he felt responsible for them.

The stakes were higher now, and the moon’s eerie transformation into a blood-red orb signaled the start of a new horror.

Presently they were facing a cluster of crimson portals. It was unusual for more than one portal to be in one area which made this different from the rest.

It was a high alert situation but there was no fear as they had each other.

"Everyone, gather around," Paul called out, his voice firm yet calm.

The team leaders huddled together, their faces looking sleepy and tired.

They had been up three nights now clearing all the demons that emerged from the portals.

There wasn’t much talking among them except in cases like this were the Guildmaster addressed them.

"We know the demons will come through those portals again. We need to stay vigilant and stick to the plan."

Remember, the moon’s light is our enemy now. Avoid its horrors at all costs."

Lisa, the Beta team leader with a fierce protective streak, checked her supplies one last time.

She had seen too many people fall to the demonic infection, and she was determined to save as many as she could.

She was missing the Beta team members but she couldn’t say it out loud to the others.

"Please we need to find more people and help them," she said, her voice tinged with urgency. "We’ve come across many running low, and if more people get infected..."

Nye nodded. "I know. We’ll need to help others if we come across them. For now, let’s focus on making it through the night."

There was no word from Paul or the others as they stood in preparation for battle.

Though he didn’t say it, the Guildmaster thought Lisa priorities were misplaced given how the Alliance members had fled the ship.

It wasn’t their fault if they were now being turned or killed by the demons.

They had known about the risks but had still gone along despite his warnings.

Humans were products of their choices.

He became alert to his environment once more as he noticed a change.

Even as they watched, crimson portals began to flicker into existence, their ominous glow casting an eerie light on the streets.

The first demons emerged, grotesque and twisted, their eyes burning with malevolent hunger.

As if rehearsed, they all emerged from the portals at the same time

"Here they come!" shouted Tia which was a bit uncharacteristic of her but then she was on edge.

They each took up defensive positions around the building.

The demons charged, their screeches echoing through the night.

"Stand back."

The team leaders were shocked and weren’t sure they heard their Guildmaster properly.

"I said stand back, I will handle this alone."

Lillith and the team leaders were about to argue more but a stern look from Paul silenced them so they couldn’t go further.

They now knew better than to argue with him when he was in that mood.

The demons were pouring in in their numbers and it was a frightening sight for one man alone to handle.

They all obeyed him and moved to the sidelines to watch.

Paul bravely walked toward the charging horde of demons without breaking a sweat.

The thought of winning the Hoarder was the only thing in his mind and what kept him going.

He needed to unleash all his pent up rage.
