The fourth week came with a terror that Earth hadn’t seen before but somewhat felt familiar.

A Tower.

It had mysteriously appeared as suddenly as its predecessors only that it was slightly different this time around.

The circumstances were definitely more weird than before.

For one, it wasn’t rooted to the ground where it could easily be accessible to anyone.

It was suspended in the clouds.

The grim and monolithic structure wasn’t stable either.

It was crumbling and the debris mixed with the stars above rained down on Earth killing many and damaging a lot of things.

Before long, everyone called it ’The Crumbling Tower’.

The conditions were so difficult that no one attempted to take the Tower for a while.

Not every one was capable of flight and you’d surely be killed by the hailstones before you could face whatever terror laid in the tower. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

At that time, two people’s names were on everyone’s lips.

It was believed that they alone could win if they attempted it.

The Hoarder and the Pariah.

After all, they were the strongest Gifteds.

There had been no signs of the Hoarder for a while so more people believed in the Pariah and took it for granted that he would win.

At the HQ, Paul was getting ready to go to the Tower and he planned to carry Lillith along with him.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t confident that he could take it on solo.

In some ways, it was better for him to go alone as it would mean that he didn’t have to worry about anyone.

He wanted her by his side though he couldn’t pinpoint why.

Maybe it was a force of habit.

Before he had become the Pariah, they had always been partners.

As usual he already knew the details of the week.

He believed that it would be a breeze just like the previous week.

The goal was to challenge the Castle and defeat the Boss inside before the castle completely collapsed.

He has realized since that the difficulty level wasn’t necessarily higher than the others but a bit more dangerous.

He would have to dodge and protect Lillith and himself from all the debris raining down.

Thankfully, he knew that they would be no strong minion of the boss at the lower levels in the Tower.

The crumbling nature of the Tower was already difficult enough as it stood.

He also needed to be very fast as he had to defeat the boss before the entire structure came down.

All it meant was that he would have to be on his very best if he was to win.

He was confident in his ability though.

It has served him well so far.

The small team was with him as he prepared to move out. They felt bad that they couldn’t all go but it wasn’t something that could be helped.

They were currently admiring his arsenal as always.

It wasn’t everyday that they saw the Pariah in his full glory.

’This is the second time Paul is taking so many items...’ Lily thought to herself as she watched him.

In all their missions, he never utilized over fifty percent of his stockpile.

Yet, he was currently donning all of the most powerful items he had by her reckoning.

He was taking no chances.

She vividly remembered having the same thoughts when they had both gone to the Tower of Conquerors.

It seemed like ages ago and they had both come a long way since then.

She didn’t know much about everything else, but she had studied Paul to a very large extent.

In all their missions, he never utilized over fifty percent of his stockpile. Yet, he was currently donning about ninety percent of the most powerful items he had.

Of course, Lily knew the reason behind his actions.

"Jeremy will be there as well, knowing him..." The young man interrupted her thoughts, causing her to sharply bob her head to indicate that she understood.

"We need to get to the goal before he does."

Lily bobbed her head again.

"Now, then... Let’s not waste any time. There’s also no need to panic. After all..."

Paul’s smile grew wider as he passionately locked eyes with his partner.

Paul and Lilith storm the Castle alone, leaving the others to watch after one another.

"... The gods are on our side."

’This is... the Tower...?’

The whole thing had played out in her head like an old recorder and she forced herself back to the present.

It wouldn’t do to dwell on memories like that.

She looked up and shuddered at the thought of her current mission.

The crumbling tower loomed above the shattered landscape, its peak lost in the swirling embrace of thick, dark clouds.

Massive blocks of stone tumbled from the tower with alarming regularity, their descent marked by eerie, keening whistles before they struck the ground with bone-jarring impacts.

The land beneath the tower was littered with rubble, forming a hazardous terrain of jagged shards and crumbled ruins.

"We’ll be back soon. Not that you all need it but Nye, I am putting you in charge, watch over the others till we get back."

"Of course, you can count on that, Guildmaster," Nye said gruffly.

With a last look at each of them, Paul and Lillith stepped out to confront the Tower.

He remembered what had happened anytime he left the Alliance members alone.

He silently prayed against a repeat performance and hoped against all odds that he saw them again.

Behind him, the team leaders were thinking the same.
