A casual compliment about his looks can be remembered by him for a long time.

Xie Qingci was contemplating whether to shave his head too, but she managed to talk him out of it.

"The buzz cuts outside are just wildflowers; my favorite is your current hair length. Don’t get any funny ideas."

It’s not so casual for celebrities to change their hairstyle. Considering endorsements and filming, each time they get a haircut, they need to choose a good time and discuss it with various parties.

"Wildflowers are more fragrant than garden flowers. What if you go out and keep staring at buzz cuts? What should I do?" Xie Qingci asked gloomily.

Yu Xia was momentarily speechless, wanting to say she wasn’t that creepy, but it felt odd saying it out loud. So she simply changed the topic.

"Aren’t you planning to ask for shelter tonight? Skip the buzz cut topic, and I’ll consider it."

"Alright—"

True to his word, when they got back to his place, after Yu Xia finished washing up, someone knocked on the door.

Upon opening the door, she saw Xie Qingci standing there with wet hair, holding a pillow.

He had just finished showering and was wearing a soft pullover and a pair of drawstring sweatpants. The strings on the pants weren’t tied and dangled as he moved, with the knots swaying along.

"Seeking shelter, sis."

He stood at the door, like a tender piece of beef eye, perfect for hot pot, increasing one’s appetite.

But Yu Xia was a person of principles.

"You can stay for a while, but not for too long."

Xie Qingci propped himself against the door frame and gave her a peck: "That’s not what you said before."

Yu Xia stepped back and glared at him.

"Behave, your parents are still around. Besides, I’ve always said I’d consider it, and even if I decide not to agree after considering, it’s fine."

"Tsk, how heartless."

With the pillow tucked under his arm, he leaned against the door frame and in an operatic tone, he stretched his voice:

"The bed is so short, my legs can’t fit, I have to curl up to sleep. Curling up certainly won’t be a good sleep, I might as well sleep on the floor. But it’s winter, sleeping on the floor could easily catch a cold, and once I catch a cold, I’d have a low fever that lasts for half a month."

He finished then hesitantly looked at her, then sighed and shook his head: "Forget it, a cold is a cold, the pain isn’t yours."

"...You’re so dramatic."

She pulled him in, made him sit at the foot of the bed, then found a towel and draped it over his head.

"You know it’s easy to catch a cold in winter, yet you don’t dry your hair—wipe and blow-dry it."

"It might be in the bottom drawer of the wardrobe."

He slightly bent over, freed a hand to rub the towel on his head roughly.

His movements and attire still resembled a student.

But the distinct veins on his hand extending to his arm indicated he was already a man.

After lazily wiping twice, he tossed the towel aside and glanced at her bent-over figure searching for the hairdryer.

The white cotton pajamas hid her graceful figure, and her long hair, let loose from a bun, still had a slight curl, falling from her shoulders, creating an arc in the air, covering her delicate, fair ears.

Even without seeing her face, just the back view suggested she must be beautiful.

Yu Xia found the hairdryer and turned around, catching Xie Qingci staring at her without having wiped his hair.

"What are you looking at?"

Xie Qingci’s gaze followed her movements, "Looking at you being pretty. Help me?"

Yu Xia gave a forced smile: "Why don’t you dream on? Do it yourself."

She tossed him the hairdryer.

"Finish drying, say two more words, then you can go back to your little bed. Careful, or your mom might come up and drag you back."

"How could she," he placed the pillow at the head of the bed, raised an eyebrow at her, "they’re on the first floor, probably already asleep, they won’t disturb us."

Just then, footsteps approached, and then Xu Yan’s voice synchronized with a knock on the door.

"Xiaxia? Are you asleep? I brought some soothing incense to help you sleep better."

Yu Xia spread her hands at Xie Qingci, expressing with her eyes—you said they wouldn’t come up?

Xie Qingci paused and scratched his nose silently.

She went to the door, took the item from Xu Yan’s hands, and politely said, "Thank you for the trouble, Auntie."

"It’s no trouble, suddenly being in a new place makes it hard to sleep," Xu Yan said, peeking inside, "Ci, why are you still here? Aren’t you going to sleep next door?"

Look, she knew Xu Yan came to catch him.

Since they arranged separate rooms, Xu Yan and Xie Yin weren’t the kind of parents eager for them to cohabitate and have a child soon just to have a daughter-in-law, they maintained basic respect, cautious not to offend her.

Xie Qingci felt caught like a child by a parent but had become accustomed to being glued to Yu Xia every day, disliking the thought of leaving her.

But he found it hard to say anything to Xu Yan beyond this.

Yu Xia noticed his embarrassment, softly and slowly saying while holding the soothing incense, "He said the bed next door is a bit short, wondering if there’s something to extend it."

Xu Yan was taken aback: "A bit short? It’s just a few centimeters short. A boy can rough it out. Ci, come out, I have something to discuss with you." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Basically, he wasn’t allowed to stay in Yu Xia’s room any longer.

Xie Qingci could only take his pillow and hairdryer and leave. As he passed Yu Xia, he exchanged a pained look with her.

Yu Xia held back her teasing urge, smiling as she watched the mother and son leave.

Then she closed the door.

Finally finding a place where her son was still immature, Xu Yan looked at him complexly, a mix of relief and amusement, after they reached the room next door.

"You can’t bother Xiaxia tonight, or else what’s the point of assigning a separate room?"

Xie Qingci wanted to say he couldn’t sleep without her but couldn’t voice this in front of Xu Yan.

He could only nod in agreement.

A mother knows her son best; even though they haven’t interacted much over the years, Xu Yan understood him, knowing he wasn’t genuinely listening.

She continued, "She traveled a long way to stay with us, and giving her personal space is the most respectful.

Even though there are no outsiders at home, crowding with her might embarrass her in front of me and your dad, which isn’t respectful. And if her family knew, they’d have a bad opinion of you and our family. I thought you liked her enough to consider that."

Yet, he still had a child-like mindset, wanting to cling when he liked, unable to restrain himself.

After so much reasoning, what else could Xie Qingci say? He could only nod seriously once more.

"I understand, Mom."

This scene of receiving pre-marital socializing guidance from his parent made him feel uneasy.

Assured by his promise, Xu Yan left the room, closing his door as she went downstairs.

Xie Qingci collapsed onto his bed, covering his eyes with one arm, sighed deeply.

Then sent a message to Yu Xia.

[I’m sealed over here, sleep well / grumbling cat emoji]

Yu Xia sent back an emoji with a merciless smirk.
