Shut-In Of The 'Dead'
Chapter 149: Escape From The War
A week passed,
The development of the stronghold war between the East and the West Yamanashi Prefectureworsened by the day, causing unrest in neighboring prefectures since it was slowly getting out of hand. Neither side was backing down, and it reached the point where it’s either one side wins, or both side loses.
While all of that was happening, the preparation in the Kazuichi Stronghold was still at full speed. Kazuich, with the help of Arisu and Jurou, didn’t want to war to overtake them and catch them off guard. At the very least, they should be able to defend themselves should the war directly affect them in any way.
It was the best decision, since right now, another threat was looming in the background. On a certain territory near the Yamanashi Prefecture, a certain threat loomed slowly, inching its way through strongholds and shelters and wreaking havoc as if it were the manifestation of the end of the world.
That’s right, while the war between the East and West continued, the giant Omega Zombie was slowly deducting the locations of shelters and strongholds alike. It didn’t choose a target at all, but it would proceed to destroy everything in its wake.
Of course, the neighboring prefectures were aware of what was going on with the giant Omega Zombie, but the East and West stronghold war still persisted. It’s as if they didn’t care about the well-being of their residents at all.
"We have to go."
"But why dear? This is a safe place. We should stay. We might get killed if we go outside."
"Staying cooped up here is comparably worse. If we delay this, it’s only a matter of time before we get severely affected. We’re badly affected enough as it is. Our rations are dwindling by the day, and at this rate, we’re going to starve before this war ends."
The man had a point when he argued with his wife. But then again, he could totally understand why his wife would choose to stay. The risks of going outside were pretty high... and one could argue that the war and the outside were both sides of the same coin. If one were to go out, then one would face as much danger as he would if he went to war as a draftee.
"Even if our side wins the war... it’s all over for us. This stronghold wouldn’t recover as quickly as it should once the aftermath of the war had arrived. Adding to that, we know that other strongholds are eyeing this place. If they saw their chance... then they would seize it without thinking twice."
"It may be dangerous now, but after this war, it would be much worse. Compared to the outside, we could at least choose where to go and the risk would remain the same. Also, I’m powerful enough to protect you as well as our baby. You trust me. I swear I’ll keep you safe."
Well, the husband spoke in a calm manner, and it was enough to convince the wife. She knew that her husband made sense since they weren’t sure what would happen during and after the war. Whereas on the outside, the threat would remain the same. It would all just depend on their luck if they could avoid the dangers and weave through cities without dying.
After a couple of seconds, the wife finally agreed to what her husband was talking about, and she nodded her head before the husband spilled what they could do next.
"Then... let’s go." The husband confirmed as his wife also confirmed her agreement. With their words on equal terms together, the husband decided to act as soon as possible so his wife wouldn’t have the time to change his mind.
Without further ado, he let out the plan he had in mind, and they were going to go through their escape at that moment. It did catch his wife off-guard, but she didn’t complain at all. After all, the wife already decided to agree with her husband, so it didn’t really matter if they were going to escape now or later.
At the very least, the wife was aware that being indecisive would just harm them more, and that’s why she went through with the plan without question.
A couple of minutes later, the couple could be seen slinking by the corner of the place where they were advised to stay.
They tried to steer clear from watchful eyes and hoped that the Hybrids wouldn’t mind them that much. Adding to that, the husband was a Hybrid, so he definitely knew how to handle the situation while taking as little risks as possible.
Right at the entrance/ exit of the place, a guard nodded his head off as he fell into a deep slumber. At this point in time, the war had been going on for days now, weeks even— and this gave the guard the confidence to sleep since he was confident that no one would leave this place.
With his careful lead, the family managed to slip past the guards without alarming anyone or anything, and it didn’t take long before they reached the edge of the East Yamanashi Prefecture Stronghold.
The family didn’t think twice about getting out of the territory. Faced with the outside world, the family continued their way out of there, weaving through the battlefield which was currently empty.
Just the result of the scrimmage that day was enough for the family to further believe in their decision. If the war persisted, then surely both sides would eventually be ruined. That’s why the least they could do was find another place that would be relatively safer for their baby.
Clinging onto the baby and silently praying that it wouldn’t cry midway, the wife followed right behind her husband. Since they were on the east side of Yamanashi, a couple of hundred meters would get them to Tokyo Prefecture in no time.
"Stay close... we just need to get through this. Once we arrive at Tokyo, we’ll be fine." The husband assured his wife, who was still anxiously on his tail.
Had he paid attention to the surroundings a little bit more as a Hybrid, he’d have realized that something or someone had been following them as well after all this time.
