Chapter 178: Tea With Harajuku Amane

The morning sun peeked from the horizon, shining its rays of life at the Tokyo Stronghold as it continued to rise from the horizon.

A full night had passed since Kazuichi and the two ladies arrived in the stronghold and it was only this morning that they received summons from Harajuku Amane.

Harajuku Amane, a long-time friend of Kazuichi and the one who had posted the notice for meteorite ores, was waiting for them in the main building of the stronghold. Amane was indebted to Kazuichi from their past, having been an orphan whose life Kazuichi had profoundly impacted by sponsoring the orphanage he lived in.

Kazuichi, Arisu, and Lea made their way to the meeting room, walking through the stronghold before arriving at a somewhat sizeable structure.

The Tokyo Stronghold was well-organized, its inhabitants bustling with purpose. The stronghold’s strategic defenses were impressive, with guards patrolling the walls and a sense of order prevailing amidst the chaos of the outside world. They passed through the busy corridors, reaching a large wooden door flanked by two guards. With a nod, the guards opened the door, revealing a spacious room where Amane awaited.

"Kazuichi-san!"

With a warm smile breaking across his face, Amane stood up as they entered. "Kazuichi-san! I-it’s been too long, I’m so glad to see you!" He said, stepping forward to embrace his old friend.

Kazuichi returned the embrace, his own smile mirroring Amane’s. Quite frankly, he was more than happy to see a familiar face. It’s been too long since they’ve seen each other, after all. "Amane, it’s good to see you again." Kazuichi said, patting his back before they let go of each other.

With a quick glance, Amane immediately recognized Arisu and Lea as Kazuichi’s companions.

Arisu could tell that he was wondering about their relationship with Kazuichi but he didn’t dare pry into it. Instead, he slightly bowed his head respectfully towards them. "You must be Arisu and Natsuki Lea. Welcome to the Tokyo Stronghold. I sincerely thank you for taking on the mission and for bringing meteorite ores to our stronghold. It would greatly help in our advancements in studying the virus."

Arisu nodded, a polite smile on her lips. "Thank you for having us."

Lea, still a bit reserved, managed a nod. "Thank you," she said quietly.

Amane gestured to the table, where a pot of tea and several cups were laid out. "Please, sit. We have much to discuss."

As they took their seats, Amane poured tea for each of them. The warm, soothing aroma filled the room, providing a momentary respite from the smell of death that lingered outside its heavy walls.

"Yeah, we’d like to give you as many ores as we can, but our stronghold needs them as well. We’ll give you half, and don’t worry about the payment." Kazuichi said. More than anything, he was just glad that Amane was doing well.

(In the past, when Kazuichi had locked himself up in his room, he would still sponsor the orphanage where Amane once was. Despite being a hikikomori, he still had the heart to continue funding the orphanage even after his adoptive parents died in a plane crash.)

"No, I wouldn’t want to impose! The notice stated that we only need one meteorite ore from an Omega Zombie. But... if you’re willing to part with more ores, we’ll be more than happy to receive it. Of course, we’ll duly compensate you for it as well." Amane continued.

As the four of them relaxed, Amane leaned forward.

Amane began, "Once again, I owe you both a debt of gratitude for bringing the meteorite ores. They are essential to our research and defense efforts. But let’s get to the heart of the matter. The Omega Gigantic Zombie."

The room grew tense at the mention of the Omega Gigantic Zombie. Amane’s expression turned serious. "The Omega Gigantic Zombie is the greatest threat we face. It’s a colossal, mindless beast that roams Japan, destroying everything in its path. Thanks to our scouts and tracking devices, we have a rough idea of its current location. It’s moving towards the eastern regions, not too far from here."

Kazuichi nodded, his face reflecting the gravity of the situation. "We’re aware of its threat. Our stronghold has taken precautions."

Arisu leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "What measures have you taken to track and combat it?"

Amane sighed, his gaze drifting to the maps on the wall. "Just like you, we’ve established a network of scouts and tracking devices that monitor its movements. Our scientists are working on developing new weapons and strategies to combat it, using the properties of the meteorite ores you brought."

Feeling a renewed sense of response, Lea leaned forward. "What can we do to help?" She asked, even though she could only offer so much to the table.

A soft smile appeared on Amane’s face. He could tell that Lea was really concerned about the Gigantic Omega Zombie. "Your strength and skills will be invaluable. We need to share intelligence and collaborate on our defensive strategies. Any insights you have from your experiences could make a significant difference."

Arisu nodded, her resolve unwavering. "We’re ready to help in any way we can. This is our fight too."

Kazuichi placed a reassuring hand on Amane’s shoulder. "We’ll find a way, Amane. We have to. There’s too much at stake."

Amane nodded, a spark of determination in his eyes. "You’re right. We can’t give up. We need to stand united against this threat. With the meteorite ores and your experience, we have a fighting chance."

The conversation continued, delving into the logistics of fortifying their defenses and coordinating their efforts. Amane shared stories from their past, how Kazuichi had sponsored the orphanage where he grew up. "You gave us hope, Kazuichi," Amane said, his voice filled with gratitude. "You saved us when no one else would. I owe everything to you." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Kazuichi smiled, his heart warmed by the memories. "You were like a brother to me, Amane. It was the least I could do." He said.

Looking back, Kazuichi knew that not much has changed since then. His only regret was not overcoming his shut-in self a little bit sooner. Had that happened, he would have enjoyed the peaceful pre-apocalyptic times with Amane and the others.

Lea listened intently, feeling a sense of belonging she hadn’t felt in a long time. She shared her own stories, her journey as a Bulwark Hybrid, and the hardships she had faced. The others listened with empathy and respect, their bond growing stronger with each shared experience.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the room, Amane stood and looked out the window. "We have a long road ahead of us," he said, his voice steady. "In any case, I’m glad you’re doing well, Kazuichi. Really glad. To think that you were the same person who wouldn’t even step foot outside your palace... I mean, it’s great to see you doing well, you know." He bashfully continued, teasing Kazuichi a little bit.

With an expression that shared the same sentiment, Kazuichi joined him at the window, looking out at the stronghold and the world beyond. "Well, it’s thanks to these guys here that I was able to get out of my shell. Granted, I’m still the same old me. I’d rather stay at home than go around fighting mindless zombies, let alone a Gigantic Omega one.

Arisu and Lea joined them, standing side by side as they looked out at the horizon. In that moment, they felt a sense of unity and purpose that transcended the challenges they faced. They were a team, a family, bound by their shared determination to fight for a better future.

As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, they knew their journey was far from over. But with each other to rely on, they were ready to face whatever came next. The Tokyo Stronghold stood as a beacon of hope, a testament to their strength and resilience.

And now it has gained a new ally, a stronghold which was by far the largest growing stronghold in Japan. Although they didn’t say anything, both parties knew that this alliance would forge a path for the betterment of humanity’s survival. In the near future, the inevitable fight against the Gigantic Omega Zombie would ensue, and they would be ready for it.

The night was peaceful, the stronghold a sanctuary amidst the chaos. But even as they rested, they knew the fight was never truly over. The Omega Gigantic Zombie was still out there, and countless other challenges awaited. But with their combined strength and unwavering resolve, they were ready to face them all.

As they turned back to their tea and conversation, the warmth of friendship and shared purpose filled the room. This was just the calm before the storm, that much was obvious. But for now, they’d rather enjoy this peaceful moment, relishing it as extensively as they could before they return to their usual life of action and destruction.
