Shut-In Of The 'Dead'
Chapter 203: Yeah, It’s Still Sparring Day
"Thud!" The impact was solid, but the other Hybrid barely flinched. He swung around with a growl, his fist coming down like a hammer.
Kazuichi danced back, narrowly avoiding the blow. He could feel the ground tremble slightly under the force of the Hybrid’s strike. This guy was strong—stronger than he had anticipated.
But Kazuichi wasn’t about to back down. He knew he couldn’t match his opponent in raw power, but he had the advantage in speed and agility. He just needed to stay one step ahead.
The Hybrid came at him again, this time with a flurry of punches aimed at Kazuichi’s torso. Kazuichi weaved and ducked, his movements fluid and precise. Each punch that missed sent a rush of wind past his skin, a reminder of the force behind those blows.
"Whap! Whap! Whap!" The sounds of fists cutting through the air filled the sparring grounds as Kazuichi dodged and deflected, his focus razor-sharp. He waited for the right moment, his mind working quickly to find an opening.
There! The Hybrid overextended slightly on his last punch, leaving his side exposed. Kazuichi seized the opportunity, stepping in with a swift, powerful kick aimed at his opponent’s knee.
"Crack!" The sound of impact was sharp and satisfying, and the Hybrid staggered, his knee buckling slightly under the force of the blow. But he recovered quickly, his eyes narrowing in anger.
Kazuichi didn’t give him a chance to counterattack. He followed up with a series of rapid strikes, his fists and feet moving in a blur. Each hit was aimed at a vulnerable spot—ribs, solar plexus, joints—designed to weaken and disorient his opponent.
But the other Hybrid was tough, and he absorbed the blows with a grimace, his determination unwavering. With a roar, he launched a counterattack, swinging a powerful backhand at Kazuichi’s head.
Kazuichi ducked, but the blow clipped him on the shoulder, sending him stumbling back. Pain flared through his arm, but he gritted his teeth and pushed through it. He couldn’t afford to lose focus now.
The Hybrid pressed the attack, his strikes coming faster and harder. Kazuichi was forced to stay on the defensive, dodging and blocking as best he could. Each blow that connected sent a jolt of pain through his body, but he refused to go down.
He knew he had to change tactics. This wasn’t working—he was being overwhelmed by his opponent’s sheer strength. He needed to find a way to turn the tables.
As the Hybrid lunged at him with a powerful punch, Kazuichi suddenly dropped low, his hand sweeping out to catch his opponent’s ankle. With a sharp twist, he yanked the Hybrid’s leg out from under him.
"Thud!" The Hybrid hit the ground hard, the air rushing out of his lungs in a pained grunt. Kazuichi didn’t waste a second—he sprang up, delivering a swift kick to the Hybrid’s ribs while he was down.
But the Hybrid wasn’t out yet. With a snarl, he rolled away from the kick and sprang to his feet, his eyes blazing with determination. He charged at Kazuichi again, but this time there was a slight hesitation in his movements—a sign that he was starting to tire.
Kazuichi noticed it immediately. This was his chance.
He let the Hybrid come at him, waiting until the last possible second before sidestepping and delivering a powerful knee to his opponent’s midsection.
"Thwack!" The impact was solid, and the Hybrid doubled over, gasping for breath. Kazuichi didn’t let up—he followed up with a spinning kick to the Hybrid’s head, sending him crashing to the ground.
The Hybrid lay there for a moment, dazed and struggling to get up. The instructor stepped in, raising a hand to signal the end of the match.
"Winner: Kazuichi!" the instructor announced, his voice carrying across the sparring grounds.
Kazuichi stepped back, breathing heavily but feeling a surge of triumph. He had done it—he had won his first match. He turned to his friends, who were cheering and clapping, their faces lit up with pride.
Arisu was the first to reach him, a wide smile on her face. "You were amazing, Kazuichi!"
Jurou clapped him on the back, grinning. "That was one hell of a fight, man! You showed him who’s boss!"
Lea nodded, her expression approving. "You kept your cool and used your head. Well done."
Ayaka smiled softly, her eyes warm with pride. "We knew you could do it."
Kazuichi smiled, his heart swelling with gratitude for his friends. But even as they celebrated, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning. There were more matches to come, and the challenges ahead would only grow more difficult.
But for now, he would savor this victory. He had proven himself, and he had taken the first step toward whatever fate awaited them. And with his friends by his side, he knew they could face whatever came next.
The sound of the next pairing being announced snapped Kazuichi out of his thoughts. The matches were continuing, and the day was far from over. But he felt ready, his confidence bolstered by his victory.
As he watched the next two Hybrids step into the sparring area, Kazuichi couldn’t help but wonder what other secrets Ryuunosuke had in store for them. The mystery of the meteorite still loomed over them, its promise of power and knowledge a tantalizing lure. But whatever the future held, Kazuichi knew one thing for certain: he and his friends would face it together, and they would come out stronger for it.
The instructor’s voice echoed across the sparring grounds as he announced the next match, and the tension in the air thickened once more. The sun continued its slow ascent, casting long shadows over the field as the Hybrids prepared for the next round of challenges.
And so, the day continued, with each match bringing them closer to the truth—to the secrets of the meteorite, and to the answers they all sought. The storm was still brewing, but Kazuichi was ready to face it head-on, no matter what.
