The crowd clapped and shouted along with Zhao Bai, watching as a young dog handler led a police dog towards them.

Gao Bo, Wu Kang, and the others instinctively widened their eyes.

This was the first time they had seen such a handsome police dog.

The Chunzhou dogs come in three color variants: wolf gray, straw yellow, and black back, each representing a different breed line.

The wolf gray breed is relatively balanced, the straw yellow breed has strong athletic abilities, demonstrating excellent tracking capabilities, while the black back breed is highly excitable, fierce, lively, aggressive, with strong attack instincts, and outstanding alertness, guarding, and bite work.

"Mr. Chen named him Thorn, meant to be a thorn in the drug trafficking gangs’ side. It’s just 1 year and 1 month old, don’t be fooled by its age, it started going on missions with our anti-narcotics team at six months old, already a seasoned veteran. Its only flaw is it’s a bit aggressive; it once bit a drug offender, so I was worried it wouldn’t behave and sent it back to the base for half a month of training."

The dog handler, as a professional, knew more than Zhao Bai. "Thorn is a seventh-and-a-half generation breed, with a nerve type centered around excitement, bold and fierce, strong in active defense and high in alertness. This time, we mainly strengthened its inhibition ability."

"Thorn has excellent talent, topping almost every ability at the base. It has a strong adaptation to high-altitude climates, extreme cold, and high temperatures, and is particularly good at mountain operations. We’ve trained it towards drug and explosive detection, but I reckon it might be better suited for counterterrorism given its character."

The difference lies in specific training and optimization for chemical identification abilities targeting drugs and explosives.

Don’t think it’s a simple task.

During actual operations, the impact of personnel and environment on dogs, the large volume of items to be inspected, etc., can lead to decreased attention, and with the introduction of new drugs or dangerous substances that may go unnoticed by the dogs, it becomes very difficult in practice.

Thorn’s ability to handle both drug and explosive detection speaks to its extraordinary memory and sense of smell.

Counterterrorism dogs put more emphasis on coordination with SWAT, often needed to bite and suppress outlaws during actual combat and hostage rescues, while also timely sniffing out bombs, traps, and more hidden by criminals.

This is why the dog handler said Thorn is more suited as a counterterrorism dog.

The fact that it dares to engage and bite vicious drug offenders shows its strong aggressive nature.

In counterterrorism actions, the scenes are often a hail of bullets, sometimes engulfed in the kind of warfare seen in the Myanmar North 324 operation.

Among the continuous sounds of explosions, the last thing needed is a police dog that becomes battle-shy, too scared to advance at critical moments.

Gao Bo listened to the dog handler’s explanation and prepared to step forward for a petting.

But before he got close, Thorn instantly lowered its body, raised its head, bared its teeth, and let out a low growl, and Gao Bo quickly retracted his hand in fright.
