Caden Lockwood drove at a high speed, zooming past, then parked the car by the roadside and dashed out. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Evelyn Morgan lagged far behind him, but she could still faintly see his car and him in the distance.
Her eyes were filled with intense worry, not knowing what had happened to Caden Lockwood, her heart was in her throat, fearing something might happen to him.
Once the car stopped, she, who normally counted every penny, handed the driver a hundred-yuan bill without waiting for change, and chased after Caden Lockwood.
Caden ran frantically and, just as he entered the gates of the residential complex, the ear-piercing and nerve-wracking siren of an ambulance echoed nearby, accompanied by the arrival of police cars.
Caden’s steps gradually lightened and slowed, while the complex was crowded with many people, their expressions a mix of curiosity and terror.
The closer he got, the harsher and more rampant the chill around Caden became.
Yet, the gaze in his dark eyes was deeply helpless, and his fitted black suit exuded a strikingly resonant desolation under the night sky, tightening the hearts of those who beheld him.
Pushing through the crowd, the scene that met his eyes turned Caden’s face from dark to ashen in an instant.
He shuddered heavily, and his steps, which had been advancing consistently, finally retreated slightly, and he stood completely frozen.
The faint lighting of the complex cast shadows over Caden Lockwood, making it impossible to discern his expression at that moment.
Yet, judging by his clenched fists, where the lean and distinct knuckles cracked audibly, it created an overlooked commotion in this chaotic, fear-filled night.
Just ten meters away from Caden, a young and beautiful girl lay on the ground, covered in blood, presenting an exceptionally shocking scene.
People nearby whispered that the girl had only lived there briefly and, as she jumped from the building, she shouted, "I’m finally free," which many had heard.
Rescue nurses worked together to lift the girl onto the stretcher, covering her face with a white cloth, already declaring her dead on the scene.
Observing the resigned sighs on the nurses’ faces, a suddenly alert Caden seemed to awaken from his petrified state and rushed forward immediately.
He yelled furiously at the nurses, "She’s not dead! Revive her! Hurry, save her!"
The sudden outburst from Caden startled the nurses, leaving them standing still, exchanging helpless glances yet submissive to this domineering and fierce man.
"Save her!" Caden roared, "Didn’t you hear? I want her alive! Alive!"
A police officer approached and asked softly, "Sir, may I ask, who are you to the deceased?"
"Save her!" Caden’s eyes were bloodshot, and the chill surrounding him, amplified by his towering rage, surged like a tsunami, "Save her!"
In his world now seemed to remain a single notion—the determination to see the girl who had jumped live.
"I’m very sorry." The nurse appeared helpless, "The deceased is already..."
"She’s not deceased!" Caden enunciated each word slowly, the defiant chill spreading from him discouraged any opposition, "How could she be dead? She can’t be..."
"We understand your current feelings, but, dead can’t be brought back to life, please accept our condolences." The policeman spoke softly, "We also request your cooperation in our investigation. We need to rule out the possibility of homicide, and that requires some detailed information about her and..."
"Save her!" Caden grabbed the nearest nurse, completely ignoring the policeman.
"Don’t you understand? Huh? I want you to save her! The ambulance is already here, why haven’t you taken her to the hospital for surgery yet? I want her alive! There’s no time to waste!" Caden’s eyes were wide open in anger.
