Slowly Falling into His Love Trap
Chapter 355: She’s a Silly Madwoman
Knowing Evelyn was in a bad mood, Aunt May and Kiki hovered around her.
The most anxious one was Aunt May.
She didn’t know what had happened, but she could tell that Evelyn and Caden Lockwood must have had a conflict.
Evelyn locked herself in the study, buying lots of books and claiming she wanted to diligently improve herself.
But those books always stayed on the shelf, never even opened.
Even when Aunt May made all sorts of delicious food for Evelyn, she had no appetite. In just a few short days, she had visibly lost weight.
Under the dim light, Evelyn sat at the desk, with a book laid out in front of her and a phone on top of it. She kept staring at the phone, as if doing so would make it ring.
But, in the end, she was disappointed.
Scrolling through the phone book, she had only a few contacts saved, not knowing whom to call. Seeing the name L, she felt particularly close to it.
As for who L was, she didn’t seem so eager to know anymore.
She subconsciously regarded L as a priest, and herself as a devoted follower.
"Is it true that when a woman falls in love with a man, she becomes anxious and insecure?" Evelyn texted L, "I keep thinking over and over that he actually likes me, but just has his reasons. Then I think, if he really likes me, what reasons could outweigh my importance? Does he love me? Doesn’t he love me? Do I love him? Do I not? All I think about are these questions all day like a silly fool."
"I actually quite like the term ’silly fool,’" L replied quickly as always, "Judging from your messages, you seem to be in a bad mood."
"It feels like ever since I turned twenty, worries just increased," Evelyn replied, "I always longed to grow up, but now I realize, how great it was to not grow up! Not growing up, you only have to worry about school grades."
"A life without setbacks, difficulties, and heartache is not a complete life. Overcoming obstacles bit by bit prepares you for next time, knowing how to handle things. So, treat all troubles as life’s training, and make yourself stronger," L replied.
Evelyn sighed softly, not knowing what to reply.
Just then, another message from L arrived.
"If there’s something you want to do, go do it; if there’s something you want to ask, just ask. If you reject or ignore an answer because you fear it won’t be what you want, when the answer finally comes, happiness is still happiness, and sadness is still sadness."
Evelyn gripped her phone tightly and, after sending a "thank you," kept staring at the conversation with L.
Yes!
She had always been waiting for Caden Lockwood, but had never tried calling him proactively.
She was afraid.
Afraid of getting an answer she didn’t want.
But some things can’t be avoided just by hiding from them.
Instead of guessing blindly, it’s better to ask everything clearly at once.
Even if it means heartbreak, at least it will be an understood and upfront one!
After hesitating for a moment, Evelyn bravely dialed Caden Lockwood’s number.
Immediately, the sweet voice of an operator came from the other end: "Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off..."
Evelyn’s heart fell heavily, as if ripped apart by a fierce beast, shattered into pieces, bloody and bruised.
Tears blurred her eyes, and before she could stop them, they had already formed and fallen.
Leaning on the desk, she cried softly, "Uncle, this is irresponsible of you! Your identity and your actions do not match, seriously do not match!"
The night was quiet, and her sobbing sounded particularly lonely. She looked out the window as two long street lamps stretched endlessly into the vanishing point of her vision, appearing orderly yet rigid, with no one around to disrupt the tranquility they should have at this moment...
