Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 1785: Vindictive
No matter how complicated a matter was, once someone had connections at the top, it could be resolved quickly.
This held true in many worlds, including the Magus Civilization.
With Klopp’s intervention, Leena’s release proceeded smoothly.
Sein could finally hold Leena’s hand again. Though it felt cool in his palm, an unprecedented warmth rose in his heart.
He was so focused on his wife that he completely forgot his mentor was standing right beside them.
In her current form, Leena was roughly the same height as Lorianne.
One had black hair, the other green.
One gave off an icy air, while the other radiated gentle warmth.
When Sein and Leena held hands, Lorianne unconsciously pouted, even though she should have felt relieved.
Even she did not notice the subtle change herself.
Fortunately, no one else present seemed to notice it either.
Although Leena’s release was certainly worth celebrating, many could tell the matter was far from over.
First, Mikaeli’s soul within Leena still had to be dealt with.
Second, Sein and Jerry now clearly had a grudge between them!
This time, with Klopp and Grandmaster Feylis backing him, the issue had been smoothed over for now.
But without them, how could Sein have settled it on his own?
By this point, Sein was no longer the kind of mage who depended on others. Beneath his obsessive pursuit of truth, he also had a deeply vindictive streak.
Could anyone who had provoked him really expect to walk away unscathed?
If he forced himself to act as though nothing had happened, it would likely bother him so much that it would affect his future experiments.
Every dragon had its reverse scale, and whoever touched it would pay with their life!
For Sein, his reverse scale was Leena.
Though they had been separated for long periods, every parting only deepened their longing and strengthened their feelings for each other.
Although Sein cared for Natalya, he had not been as furious then as he was now.
It was not that Sein did not love Natalya. It was simply that he had met Leena earlier, and his feelings for her ran deeper.

Everything proceeded smoothly.
The moment Leena placed her hand in Sein’s palm, they could have left immediately.
Bahrami, maintaining a strictly professional manner, briefly stopped Feylis and the other Rank Six mage, Thomk, and invited them to rest for a while in the deputy warden’s office.
Feylis, to her credit, did not make things difficult for him and declined politely.
“There’s still much to handle on the frontlines. I’ve only returned to Magus World briefly to take care of a few matters before heading back, so I’ll be taking my leave now,” Feylis said with a faint smile.
Bahrami smiled. “That’s a pity. I just received a shipment of tea from the Immortal Realm Civilization and had hoped to treat my two old friends to a taste.”
Although Magus World was a top-tier civilization, its number of Rank Six beings was still limited. Among them, Rank Six mages were even rarer than knights of the same rank.
Feylis did not interact with these two often, but they were still acquaintances who had crossed paths at more than a dozen Magus Alliance Conferences.
Before leaving, however, Feylis still threw out one last remark at the other Rank Six mage.
“Master Thomk, if you can’t mentor your apprentice properly, I’d be happy to help in the future!”
“I can’t believe someone dared to stab us in the back while the frontlines of the civilizational war are burning fiercely. Aren’t black mages still part of our Magus World?” Feylis snorted coldly, standing firmly on Sein’s side as she faced the blue-robed mage.
The Rank Six mage clearly had his own arguments—after all, Leena had been the one who “lost control” first.
But recalling that Klopp was already involved, and with Feylis stronger than him, the middle-aged mage only let out a quiet sigh.
That sigh made his apprentice, Jerry, flush red with humiliation.
Not only had he failed to gain anything this time, but he had also embarrassed his mentor in front of another Rank Six Magus Civilization powerhouse.
What angered Jerry even more was Sein’s final move before leaving.
He pulled Leena in front of Jerry, towering over him as he looked down and said, “There’s no need to trouble yourself, Grandmaster Feylis. If Master Jerry needs help with anything, I’d gladly give him a lesson myself.”
He then added coldly via mental focus, “This isn’t over yet, shorty!”
Sein’s interruption—especially the insult delivered through mental focus—infuriated Jerry so much that he coughed up a mouthful of blood, even though Sein had not used any pressure on him at all.
Being called a “shorty” by Sein undoubtedly reopened one of Jerry’s oldest wounds.
The last time anyone had dared mock Jerry’s height like that was probably over two thousand years ago, back when he was still a magic initiate.
Ever since he advanced to Rank One, he had moved among people of status, refinement, and learning. No one had insulted him this way.
Besides, mages had countless ways to alter their appearance.
The reason Jerry remained so short was likely because this was his natural form, and he simply could not be bothered to change it.
To be fair, though he was short, the tuft of blond hair on his forehead did give him a certain distinctive flair.
Sein’s single remark angered Jerry so badly that he coughed up blood, drawing the attention of everyone present.
Feylis and the others likely guessed that Sein had said something to him through mental focus, but no one seemed inclined to press the matter.
Sein and Leena had been through a rough ordeal, so it was only natural for them to vent a little.
What Sein had not yet realized was that his vindictive streak was actually a common trait within the Verdant Flame Faction.
From Feylis to Gregory to Bernice—none of them were the type to swallow a loss.
When Gregory first rose to prominence in Magus World, he frequently clashed with knights and mages of the same rank.
Bernice had also come into conflict with several Rank Four knights.
From the way Feylis handled Sein’s affairs this time, she was clearly drawing on her long experience cleaning up after her apprentices.
The Verdant Flame Faction’s reputation for being untouchable within certain circles of Magus World was not empty talk—it had been earned through battles.
It was not entirely fair to blame Gregory, Sein, or the others for constantly dragging Feylis into trouble.
To be honest, the apple did not fall far from the tree—Feylis herself had never been an easy person to deal with in her younger days!
Lorianne was the only well-behaved one. She had never caused Feylis any trouble and was instead doted on by the entire faction.
After Sein led Leena out of the Atlan Interstellar Prison’s subspace alongside Feylis and the others, Bahrami ascended to the prison’s highest level to meet Warden Norton.
“They left already?” Norton asked.
“Yes,” Bahrami confirmed.
Norton let out a sigh of relief and chuckled. “I’ve known Feylis for over a hundred thousand years now. Back then, she was only Rank Four, but she already had quite a temper. Even the mages around the Pyro Secret Society avoided provoking her.”
“Now that she has reached the peak of Rank Six, even I’d rather not face her head-on. She’s becoming quite a headache,” he added with a wry smile, shaking his head.
“Please assign someone else for this kind of task next time, Chief. I think Shekyra is better at dealing with people like that,” Bahrami said with a chuckle.
“I really didn’t expect Sir Klopp of the Western Archipelago to be involved in this... Is that mage named Sein someone special?” he asked curiously.
Norton’s smile faded slightly. “The electro elemental magic you wield may be fierce, but your perception is still lacking. Did you not notice the peculiar mask that mage named Sein was wearing?”
