Chapter 590: Superior Scanners

"It is an awful idea." Cain told him as they walked toward the infirmary.

Jace scoffed. "It is a great idea. You know for a fact I can pull it off. Besides, we are technically in a bit of a gray area when it comes to rules. Even you can admit that." Jace pointed out as he waved at Shilla who pointed to a specific bed where some of the equipment had been set up.

"The idea is still not one that I want to follow through with. In your current state creating a new Artificial Intelligence will just be dangerous. You told me yourself that your electrical abilities have been malfunctioning." Cain pointed out. He moved over to Shilla. "Shilla, can everyone else move?"

"They can..." Shilla glanced at Colvert who was still recovering on one of the spare beds. Of the last of those that underwent stabilization, Jamal was the one that had the noticeable physical change. He became younger and the disease that was eating away at his life was gone. Apparently he went straight to the temporary work out room to push himself.

"Something wrong?" Jace asked.

"Yes, I am actually worried about you." Shilla told him. "Far as I can tell, human based species are awakening abilities that were already possible if they were nanohumans who pushed themselves. But you fully awakened your abilities. So now I am worried that you are going to evolve a second time in your lifetime. Such a feat is not recorded in my people’s records."

Jace rubbed the back of his head. "The mutation has been limited to my current abilities malfunctioning. Chances are that not much will happen." Jace explained to her. "If something does happen, I will deal with it."

"Can you?" Shilla asked with a scoff. "You can literally kill a person with a touch by overloading their nervous system. If you lost control, you would be able to kill all of us if you lost control for even a minute." She began explaining getting West’s attention. "I mean, we cannot even properly scan you because of how much electricity is running through your body."

"Haa..." Jace sighed and rolled his eyes. "Okay, then we bring me down to the lower levels. Those ones are contained and have a vacuum between them and the other levels so if I lose control it will give you all a few more minutes."

Shilla nodded. "I will go with you. Go ahead and take those things." She pointed at the equipment. "I will start the process with Valkyrie and Victor."

Jace nodded and started packing up the third set of equipment. Then started making his way through the facility. Cain stayed behind to watch them as West followed him. "So Sherlock’s theory about you having control over electricity was correct."

Jace looked over at her with a deadpan stare. His armor had been dematerialized before he walked into the infirmary. So his face was visible as she looked at him. "I was not hiding it very much." He pointed out. "I am just not in the habit of announcing my capabilities."

"Was it the ability you had first? From what I understand the talents and abilities are something that can evolve over time. But Catherine did not disclose much more than that." West explained. "I have been treating all information about your galaxy with reverence. Especially since the more I hear the more I am convinced that your people are like the final stage of humanity or something."

Jace chuckled as they walked into a stairway. "Have you decided what you want to do?"

"Yeah, I want to know more about scanning technology. You guys clearly have the tech. But for some reason you seem to not want to use it." West pointed out. "Everything else I could probably learn by watching. But you guys are not doing anything with scanning technology." She pointed out as they walked down the stairs.

Jace nodded. "Well yeah... it is not that high of a priority because your galaxy does not have very fast space crafts. I mean how long does it take on average for a large space craft to go from the sun to the edge of the galaxy?" He asked as he stopped at the door that was at the figurative bottom floor. He could almost feel the cold through his boots as he used one of his hands to slowly spin open the door.

"A month on average. A few days if you are using the latest advancements that Catherine recently provided." West answered with a sigh as she seemed to be putting the pieces together. "You are not worried about being snuck up on or approached."

Jace shook his head as the metal screeched. It soon opened with a wave of stale air rushing out. "Nope. We only have to worry about the Daemons and Mortella." He stopped as he thought for a moment. "Well the Abyssal as well now. But the point is that humans are not the biggest threat."

"Either way, can I do it?" West asked. "I mean our scanning technology is fairly complex. Even Catherine has said as much. But you did not even mention it, almost as if it was an after thought."

"That is because the Victorium specializes in scanning technology. But after upgrading the Vexical scanning tech I integrated the two. Now there is not much we can do to upgrade the hardware before the next breakthrough. But the programming and wiring can be redone." Jace explained as he pulled it open.

The floor they were entering was not being powered currently. He said there was a void of space between this floor and another one. But that was not entirely accurate. It would be more accurate to say that the walls of the floor above had been torn so there was a gap of space. In fact the only thing holding this bottom floor of the facility to the rest of it were some pipes and the reinforced stairs.

"How is that possible?" West asked.

"Because there is only so much that can be done." Jace explained as he walked into the area before making his way to a more remote part of the floor. Easily walking through the darkness. Only slowing down when he noticed West was struggling to follow him. "For scanning technology it is fairly simple to edit the wavelengths via the wiring. But after that it is all programming and if it was not clear before- we are a few centuries ahead of you on that front."

West hummed as she considered it. "Is there still a nation full of Artificial Intelligences like Cain in your galaxy?"

"There is. Recently their number only rapidly increased thanks to the recovery of the Victorium Elder councils’ fall. Apparently they had stolen and stored a number of the Artificial intelligences. In fact the Victorium did not recognize an Artificial Intelligence right to sentience until it became a requirement for Vexical’s admission into the Victorium." Jace explained to her as they moved through another bulkhead.

"You have mentioned the Victorium several times. The Vexical too, but I assume that is the Vexical Empire which Catherine told me about." West began as she analyzed what he told her. "You keep talking up the Victorium but if they came out ahead then why would they stoop to change their culture."

"Because they were on the verge of civil war." Jace told her honestly. "They needed an upper hand and knew we could offer it. Technically they would have allied with any of the human nations that combated them. Vexical had the strongest resistance. We also were the ones that alerted the Rogue Metal Legion to the Victorium slaving the Xenar Artificial Intelligences."

"Even more reason for them not wanting you." West pointed out as Jace began setting up the equipment and West tried to help him. But all she had to go by was a light on her communicator. "How did you manage to convince them?"

"It helped that I personally overcame the High Priestess’ personal guard." Jace chuckled thinking back. "Back then I was only a Cadet as well. But I took her out and then managed to pull one over on her."

"How does that help?" West asked in abject shock and surprise.

"Because the majority of the races within the Victorium respect strength above all else. If he managed to overcome a personal guard to the highest military office then he was in turn stronger." Shilla explained as she stepped in with a flashlight in hand.

"So Gladiator is truly that strong?"

"In one-on-one combat, he would be difficult to overcome. The reason for that is not because of his control over electricity. But because he combines technique with raw strength perfectly instead of relying on one over the other." Shilla informed her. "Now head on up, I will join you shortly once I administer the stabilizer to Gladiator."
