Space Odyssey: Spectre
Chapter 603: World Class Ship
"No, Crystal was in the middle of modifying his mech’s engines. He was delaying on modifying his designs until recently. But the whole armored frame has been pulled apart and likely won’t be put together again until at least a few more days." K explained. "But we should be enough as your backup."
"Except we are not going to be his backup. He has us taking out the warship and colony ship that is holding position in Luna’s orbit. While he is probably going to split his attention between all of the ships." Valkyrie explained as she clearly read the plan and understood part of his intent.
But Jace did explain what his plan was. He was not going to keep them in the dark. "Actually I will strafe the rest and hopefully draw out the command ship from how they react. If we can cut off the head it will hopefully disorientate the others enough that we can take advantage. This will have the added effect of cutting them off from the group you are targeting if I do it right."
"Should we come help you if we completely wipe them out?" K asked.
"No, focus on disabling the ships. You can destroy the smaller crafts. But just disable the larger ones, leave them for the locals to take care of. The Mortella may be our enemy, but I have a feeling that we should only help, not do the work for them. It should help this galaxy grow if they can rally against an outside enemy." Jace explained.
"It would also help our own galaxy if the Mortella were forced to send reinforcements to this galaxy." Valkyrie pointed out as well.
"Is there some type of callout we should do? Like a rallying cry or something?" K asked as they drew closer to Prima Terra. It would not be long before they arrived at their target. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Nope." Jace answered before he pushed forward the lever and his ship shuddered slightly. He would have to adjust the speed in a moment.
The other two veered off on a path to Luna’s orbit while he moved toward the ships that were holding position around Prima Terra. It looked like they had started their attack by wiping out all of the satellites and other objects that were in orbit around the planet. Which would likely completely cut it off without outside help. But that was not a problem for Jace, it was an issue for the people of this galaxy to resolve.
Jace pulled back on the lever as he came within firing range of the Mortella ships. His sensors showed no response to his presence. So either they were not scanning him or they were not registering him as an actual threat. He charged up his laser cannons for a moment before firing at the gap of one of the colony ships. The gap was where a group of cannons were sitting, ready to fire toward the planet.
After he fired the laser cannons, they needed a moment to cool down. While that was happening he watched the reaction. The first thing that happened was the area he fired into exploded while the entire ship started to lean. Lean, as in it began to move onward a descending orbit toward Prima Terra.
A quick scan revealed the Mortella Colony sized ship had lost power while the inferno he had started in one of its canon bays was acting as an impromptu engine as it propelled the ship toward the planet. That ship was more than disabled, if they were not able to quickly adjust it would crash into the planet.
The moment he fired the other ships seemed to notice him and began launching fighters while a random array of lasers began filling space. Seems they knew he was here but could not actually see him. Only acting off the information that there was an enemy ship in their proximity.
Jace maneuvered his ship close to the disabled ship’s hull as he looked for his next target in the fleet of ships. Now that he knew they could not see him, he could pick and choose his targets a lot more.
There were two more colony class ships, two world class ships and four royal class ships. The larger world class ships were in the back of the pack while the colony ships were arrayed toward the edge. Then finally the royal class ships seemed to be acting as bodyguards for the world class ships.
But after taking out one of the colony ships. A pair of the royal class ships left their position. Which meant that a world class ship was not as important as the other one. It seemed he had his target.
He flew through a path where not much laser fire was going on. While he was looking for a spot he could hit the world class ship to take it down. There were only so many times he could fire before they probably figured out a way to track him. Then this fight would become more about speed than firepower.
As he maneuvered he saw his shield flash for a moment and frowned as his system began beeping at him as his shields overloaded. Seems like one shot from one of those world ships was enough to overload his shields and shut them off temporarily. That should not have happened. It would seem he should look into the cause of that.
When he closed the gap he began powering up the cannons again. Aiming toward a rear engine exhaust of the world ship as he kept close enough that the cannons could not recklessly target him. While also staying far enough away that he was not bouncing off the world ship’s shielding.
Right before he fired he adjusted one of the cannons so it would fire a second later than the other one. Then he released the two laser balls of energy from his cannons. One traveled forward first. The second one lagged behind a moment later.
The first one denoted on the world class ship’s shielding. He watched as a golden shimmer withdrew and the ship’s shielding began to disappear. Then he saw the second shot smack into the engine exhaust and frowned at the lack of reaction. He flew past the area and saw that the inside of the world class ship had an area he could probably fly his ship into.
"The world class ships keep all their important and explosive parts away from the edges. I spotted at least five vulnerable points on the colony ships I just sent the information to you. Have you received the data?" Jace asked over the channel as he turned his ship on a dime to fly into the gap he made before the world class ship’s shielding came up again.
"Received. Good luck!" K confirmed right before he flew through the gap and into the ship. The moment he did his communications went down and he could see a golden shimmer reappear outside the hole he just flew through.
It was not like the inside was completely open, but he did have to slow down as he maneuvered through the inside of the ship. He had to adjust his ship’s hover plates as he entered an environment. It was not habitable to him, but he figured it was the Mortella’s natural atmosphere.
There was a flood of heat that ran over his ship as he adjusted and flew through another pipeline going away from the exhaust. Following some common indicators that would denote fuel. Fuel that might be explosive or might lead to the power source they used to power these behemoths.
As he flew he was picking up sensors on the inside of the ship that seemed to have marked his fighter craft. It seemed they were now tracking his ship’s reactor signature. He would warn the others about that once he got out of this ship. But he flew through the piping until he veered to the side and through a tight corner.
Flying into another area of the ship and frowning when he did as he flew over a bunch of enemy fighters. The moment he did he knew he was about to have company. He flew through a different set of pipes that seemed to be designed for flight and movement for ships to move things inside of the ship. Which was an interesting concept and also slightly explained some functions of these larger ships.
Before he could really get a look he had started powering up his laser cannons and firing them as gates in the pathway began closing. They were physical gates instead of shield gates which was fortunate for him but would leave a clear path as he melted through them.
His fighter jostled lightly as a piece of debris bounced off his shielding. His screens showed that there was damage on his ship as he flew through the pathway. It was minor damage, but it would start to build up if he could not destroy the ship quick enough.
