SS Awakening: My Monster Merging System!
Chapter 68: Undead Knight Captain Vs Zich
’I have to save him!’
Helen moved before her mind fully caught up to what was happening.
Fire exploded around both her arms while she thrust her palm directly toward the charging Knight Captain. Instead of spreading wildly, the flames compressed tightly into a concentrated stream aimed straight across its path.
BOOOOM!!!
The blast crashed into the Captain hard enough to tear apart part of the stone floor beneath its feet. Flames swallowed the armored undead completely for half a second while heat spread across nearly ten meters of the courtyard.
"Zich, move!" Helen shouted while gasping for breath.
The Knight Captain walked out of the flames anyway.
Part of its armor glowed red from the impact while melted metal dripped slowly from one shoulder plate, yet its speed barely slowed. Before Helen could create another spell, the Captain twisted sideways and drove its armored boot directly into her stomach.
CRAAACK!!!
Helen’s body blasted backward across the courtyard.
She crashed through a broken pillar nearly one meter thick before rolling across the stone floor several times. Blood escaped the corner of her mouth while cracks spread through sections of her light armor. Pain exploded through her body.
Jayden’s expression changed instantly after seeing her get hit.
"Helen!"
Right ahead, the Knight Captain had already reached Zich, who was still stunned at how quickly Helen had thrown herself into harm’s way for him.
The massive sword descended vertically toward his head with terrifying speed. Zich snapped out of his daze and activated Blink at the exact last moment possible.
FWOOSH!!!
His figure vanished instantly.
BOOOOOOM!!!!
The sword smashed into the ground hard enough to create a crater nearly four meters wide. Broken stone exploded outward violently while black energy spread through the cracks beneath the courtyard floor.
Zich reappeared several meters away afterward.
His heartbeat sped up slightly, but his expression remained calm. The first Blink worked perfectly.
Unfortunately, the Knight Captain paused.
For barely half a second, the undead commander slowly turned its helmet toward Zich’s new location as though analyzing something. Its burning red eyes flickered faintly afterward.
Zich immediately felt something unpleasant.
The Captain moved again.
BOOM!!!
Its armored body crossed the distance instantly while the sword swept sideways toward Zich’s ribs. He activated Blink again without hesitation.
FWOOSH!!!
The moment his body reappeared, the Knight Captain turned.
Its blade changed direction before Zich fully stabilized from the movement itself.
SKRRRRK!!!
The sword passed within a millimeter of his chest. Part of his clothes split apart instantly while the pressure from the swing alone left a shallow cut across his skin.
Zich’s pupils narrowed slightly afterward.
’What kind of ridiculous adaptation speed is this?’
Helen forced herself upright despite the pain spreading through her stomach. The moment she saw the Captain already adjusting toward Zich’s second Blink, flames exploded around her hands again.
"Over here!"
FWHOOOSH!!!
Compressed fire slammed directly into the Captain’s side. At almost the same moment, Blood Leech burst upward from behind the commander with both claws aimed toward the neck joint.
The Knight Captain reacted instantly.
BOOOOM!!!
Its armored leg kicked backward violently.
Blood Leech flew across the courtyard like a broken doll before crashing through a damaged statue nearly five meters away. Stone chunks scattered across the ground afterward while the summon slowly pulled itself back upright again.
Varok saw everything happening from the frontline.
Unfortunately, helping directly was impossible.
Multiple undead soldiers had already pressed aggressively against the Velhari side while archers continued targeting anyone attempting to break formation. Even the giant Velhari was currently pinned between spear users and shield knights while roaring in frustration.
"These things won’t let us move!" the giant shouted angrily.
Varok pierced another knight through the visor before responding coldly,
"The Captain understands battlefield pressure. It is locking us down while hunting the summoner."
Another sword strike descended toward Zich immediately afterward.
Slimy bounced forward.
"Silk Barrier!"
BOOOOOM!!!
The translucent wall exploded into existence directly between Zich and the descending blade. For one brief second, the barrier actually held.
Cracks spread across the surface the next moment.
KRRRRRK!!!
The barrier bent inward violently while fractures covered nearly the entire structure within moments. Slimy trembled as several poison bubbles burst nervously across its body.
Zich’s eyes flashed when he realized something.
Repeated Blink was no longer safe!
The Captain had already started reading the movement timing, and if he continued relying on predictable teleport escapes, eventually the sword would arrive before he fully stabilized.
’So only use it at the last moment.’ 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
The Knight Captain lunged again.
This time Zich did not use Blink immediately.
He sprinted sideways first while Slimy spat poison repeatedly toward the Captain’s legs. The corrosive liquid slowed the armored undead slightly while Helen launched compressed flames from the opposite direction.
BOOOOM!!!
Fire exploded against the Captain’s shoulder.
At almost the exact same moment, Blood Leech rushed in from behind and slashed directly toward the back joints of the armor. The Knight Captain rotated afterward, forcing Blood Leech backward again while Helen’s flames continued pressuring from range.
Zich finally Blinked right before the sword reached him.
FWOOSH!!!
His body vanished less than a fraction of a second before impact.
The Captain’s blade missed by centimeters before smashing apart another broken pillar entirely. Zich reappeared behind the commander while Slimy launched another poison stream toward the exposed leg joints.
PSHHHH!!!
Smoke erupted from the armor again.
Helen noticed the opening instantly, and her flames struck the damaged section without hesitation while Blood Leech attacked from behind again, forcing the Captain to split its attention repeatedly. Little by little, the undead commander actually started losing ground.
"They are syncing naturally," Varok muttered quietly.
None of them spoke unnecessary instructions.
Slimy slowed movement, Helen pressured openings with fire, and Blood Leech constantly harassed from blind spots.
Zich used Blink only during lethal moments instead of spamming movement wastefully.
Together, they gradually forced the Knight Captain backward across the ruined courtyard.
Meanwhile, Jayden’s face became colder with every passing second.
Even while fighting three spear knights directly, his eyes kept shifting toward Helen repeatedly. The way she moved toward Zich without hesitation earlier had already irritated him enough.
Watching them coordinate this naturally made it even worse.
