Chapter 31: Chapter 31—Wilderness

"Move, move, move." Laden suddenly heard the shout of a soldier close to him, snapping him out of his trance.

He quickly moved his gaze away from Jones and turned around to head into the Rover.

Despite leaving the scene, Laden’s mind was still completely focused on that point.

"He nodded; could he have realized what happened and is trying to toy with me?" Laden muttered in fear.

"Or did he just nod for Courtesy," another point came to mind.

"Those two are very unlikely, how did you expect to think that you a random high school kid entered the Spirit and faked it,"

"He also can’t just nod to you randomly too."

"There should be a reason," Prime said assertively.

"What reason, what am I supposed to do if he decides to come after us," Laden asked.

"Firstly, someone of his caliber won’t be coming after us, and secondly, if he does, we fight there’s nothing to it."

Affected by Prime’s overflowing confidence and the fear he felt for the wilderness, Laden tried his best to shake off any weird feeling and instead tried his best to focus on what was coming.

"Focus Laden, we are heading to the Wilderness," he shouted at himself in his mind.

Outside the Rover where Laden was seated, other cars were moving side by side with it in front and behind it, and in one of those cars was Maxwell.

His face showed extreme impatience and eagerness for what was to come; it was so glaring that even some of Prime’s lackeys noticed it.

"Are you that excited for the test, Lord Maxwell?" one lackey said, his face showing his urgent need for approval or praise.

"I am unbothered about the test dummy; I am going there for just one person," a sinister smile forming on his face.

"I just hope he won’t disappoint me,"he said.

"And you too, Flood Dragon, don’t be useless like you were that day and actually work with me," Maxwell said arrogantly before going quiet again.

In Laden’s Rover, Laden’s current stance was much different from what it previously was; now he was much more relaxed and calm.

He had tried his best to take his mind off of what just happened and focus on what was about to happen.

"This Test will be extremely vital; I don’t just need to survive, I also need to perform well so I can be free of Miss Dally."

"And that’s not forgetting Prime’s weird premonition," he said to himself with his eyes locked on the staff in his hands.

"I can do it," his grip tightening.

Laden then turned his gaze towards the window to look outside of the Rover; he noticed the sky high buildings were slowly getting fewer up until the point where they disappeared and were replaced with normal buildings like the one Laden and his parents stayed in.

After a bit More, even that vanished as they were slowly being replaced with dilapidated buildings and small tents.

"Is this the slums," One student beside Laden asked.

"Yes, it is, the most unlawful and unruly part of the terminal. It’s advised for outsiders to not head there wantonly," a young-looking shoulder responded with a smile.

From the Man’s words Laden quickly made some inferences.

"Since we are already at the worst part of the terminals, we should be out soon and into the wilderness," he thought.

And just like he thought, the Rovers soon arrived at a large, sturdy metallic gate that appeared to almost touch the sky.

The Gate’s had a slightly rusty appearance, accentuating its old and sturdy look. On it were different engravings left by others; some were names while others were random signs.

Before Laden could begin scrutinizing the wall, the gate suddenly made a loud noise before slowly opening up their paths, steady and unwavering.

With the doors opened and nothing else to wait for, the Rovers drove out of the terminal and out into the wilderness.

The wilderness looked quite similar to the Spirit World to Laden, as he could see trees in the distance and bush surrounding their current path.

"Those trees should be the destination," Laden thought.

The Rover continued unbothered through the Wilderness path heading towards the trees in the distance at a slightly slower pace as if the destination wasn’t too far.

About five minutes later, they arrive at a clearing filled with multiple tents.

"Get out and listen," One soldier shouted from outside.

The students followed instructions and got outside the Rover to see other students from other schools also waiting for them there.

"You all are the last to arrive so we won’t be wasting any more time," the leading man said.

"You shall be handed a bag where you keep vital parts of specific Evil beasts you kill and bring back to be graded."

"You have three days," the man instructed.

The moment he finished speaking, multiple soldiers had already rushed out, handing out supplies to all students as fast as possible.

Soon everyone had gotten a bag and was ready to leave.

"The bags contains rations and important things you might need, so there’s no need waiting here head out immediately he shouted,"

"I will be offering no pep talks."

Hearing the man’s shout of dismissal, most students turned in a random direction and sprinted straight into the forest that was now close by.

But Laden remained in his spot and scanned the whole surroundings; he analyzed the best path to take and then, just like the others, he sprinted into the Forest.

The Forest seemed to be some sort of demarcation, as the instant Laden entered it, he suddenly felt danger and an eerie feeling coming from all over.

"Like the first time in the Spirit," he said while running.

"I just hope I am able to get enough time to compose myself and get used to this place before I get attacked," he said fearfully.

"Even if you think like that, don’t say it out loud; you will jinx it," Prime said from the Nascent Space.

As if he saw into the future, Laden suddenly heard a loud whizz coming straight for his head.

"Shit, starting already," he gritted his teeth.
