Chapter 5: Roar

"This looks perfect." When Arthur finished concealing the cave, or rather his new home, he felt satisfied.

He went inside, and inspected the place well, to make sure it was free of poisonous insects, the cave was small, its length barely reaching seven meters, as for its height it was between two and five meters at the highest parts.

The width was the problem, the cave was mostly narrow with a width of one meter except for the deep part of it, which was three and a half meters wide.

Despite the small size Arthur was not bothered, in fact he did not mind at all, for even in his previous world he had lived in a narrow apartment, so he was used to this kind of life.

There were several cracks in scattered places throughout the cave, some of them were deep in the ground, while one of them overlooked the outside which allowed a little light and air to enter through it. π•—π«πšŽπ—²π˜„πžπ•“π§π• π˜ƒπ•–π₯.πœπš˜πš–

After making sure the place was safe and stable, Arthur sat in the wide area that resembled a small room, and took out the squirrel’s carcass from the Dimensional Storage.

He stared at it for a moment, it was very ugly, he took a deep breath and gathered his courage, then slowly bent down and took a large bite of the raw and bloody meat, chewed it with a disgusted expression and swallowed it with difficulty.

"This is disgusting, I am truly going to have a problem getting used to this." He stopped himself from vomiting, and despite his complaints, he forced himself to continue eating.

Bite after bite the carcass began to shrink as the bones protruded and the blood stained the ground, he stored the unwanted internal organs in the Dimensional Storage so they would not release their rotten smell, and only ate the heart and liver.

[ +2XP ]

[ You have obtained an Evolution Point ]

’An Evolution Point?’ He swallowed the last bite in his mouth, waited a little until his stomach settled then asked: "What is this Evolution Point, and what exactly is its use?"

[ After accumulating a certain number of XP you obtain Evolution Points, you can distribute these points across your base Attributes ]

"So that is how it works." He nodded in understanding, and thought: ’At this rate I can raise my Attributes as I wish, and according to what the circumstances require of me, this will truly help me get rid of my weaknesses.’

Arthur knew with certainty that a creature that does not adapt to its environment is destined to die, so the path he had to follow was extremely clear.

If the monsters in the forest are fast, then he must be the fastest, and if they are strong, he must be the strongest, and even if they are mad, he must be the maddest and smartest of them at the same time if he wants to survive.

Thinking about things in this extreme way made him doubt his mental health a little, a sarcastic smile appeared on his face, and he stared at the single Evolution Point he possessed as though it were a very precious treasure.

But he did not intend to keep it or save it for a later time, for he was in dire need of raising his Attributes as quickly as possible so as not to end up like the poor squirrel, as food, then as waste for insects and trees to feed on.

He regained his seriousness and said firmly: "Add the Evolution Point to Strength."

The system did not delay in responding and after a few seconds the blue screen appeared before him.

[ Allocation Complete ]

"That is it?" He examined his body, and muttered in bewilderment: "I do not feel any difference, it seems that a single Evolution Point is not a big thing."

He clicked his tongue in annoyance, yet he did not feel great disappointment, or more precisely he was somewhat optimistic, for based on what he had observed, the amount of XP he needed to obtain an Evolution Point was not very large.

But unfortunately he could not say the same about the amount of XP he needed to reach the next Rank.

"I gained six XP from that squirrel, at this rate I will need to hunt and eat 50 more squirrels if I want to reach the next Rank, just thinking about it makes me exhausted."

Yawn!

After filling his stomach, and his fear of this strange world diminishing a little, Arthur felt lazy and sluggish, and the desire to sleep came over him, he looked at the faint light that crept through the entrance and noticed that night was approaching.

Despite his exhaustion, he did not sleep directly, for he had to first clean up the mess he had made while eating.

Since this was the first time he had eaten in this primitive way, he had torn the carcass apart randomly, which caused the remains and blood to scatter everywhere.

The Dimensional Storage was of great use to him, for by simply touching the remains, he made them disappear, the only thing that bothered him, was the blood that covered the ground, for it was difficult to get rid of.

After a little thinking, he went outside the cave for a few minutes, and when he returned he opened the Dimensional Storage, and poured a large amount of soil on the ground, and buried the blood beneath it.

"This is better, now I can get some rest, for this day was filled with many unexpected events."

He stretched his body and lay down, and within a short while, he fell into a deep sleep, night fell, and time passed quickly.

ROOOAR!

Suddenly, and without any warning a thunderous roaring sound came from a nearby place.

Automatically Arthur’s body reacted to the loud sound, he opened his eyes wide, and leapt backwards taking a defensive stance.

’What happened?’ His heart pounded frantically, and all his fur stood on end.

He tried to calm himself but could not, for all his senses were warning of something very dangerous outside, something he could not deal with.

The roar alone made every part of his body tremble, with eyes full of fear, and a stiffened body, he watched the entrance of his den, and prayed from deep within that whatever was on the other side would not find him.

RUMBLE!

The monster outside let out a growling sound resembling the grinding of metal, then departed moving away, with every step it took the ground shook and dust fell from the ceiling, and fortunately the monster did not notice his presence, or perhaps he was simply not prey that interested it.

Arthur held his breath, and concealed his presence as much as possible, until he was sure the monster had moved away, only then did he exhale, and had it not been that wolves do not change color, his face would have been extremely pale right now.

’What was that? No, no, I do not want to know, for whatever it was it is something beyond my imagination.’ It took him a long time to regain his composure.

But he was no longer able to sleep, he stayed awake thinking about what had happened, and cursing his bad luck that had led him to this cursed world.
